Balletwannabe
Probably controversial and will never happen but I wish they would ask Gelsey Kirkland to coach. Everyone always says how special she was...well there's a reason for that! Why not utilize her talents now that her ex is out of the picture! Link to comment

Trying to recall who were last year’s apprentices. Is this the whole batch of them, or was there anyone not continuing on? Link to comment

I believe that Kirkland pretty much renounced her SAB training and went Russian, or tried to in some ways. She is a fan of full length, story ballets including mime. I don't think she'd be a fit for NYCB. I agree that she was special as a dancer, not my favorite, but special. However that doesn't mean she has what it takes to be a great teacher or coach. Most importantly she has never indicated an interest in the Balanchine legacy, quite the opposite. Link to comment

Yes, I was thinking specifically of the non-Balanchine story ballets. She's been teaching for several years now, yes, I understand it's Russian... but so is the foundation of Balanchine technique. Anyways, as I said, I realize this is a controversial opinion. Link to comment
DC Export
Claire Kretzschmar is debuting the same role later in the week. Glad she's also being given more opportunities, always reminds me of Whelan. Link to comment
nysusan
I think LaFreniere & Kretzschmar will both make great Rubies tall girls - this is very exciting casting! Link to comment
yukionna4869
This first week of casting makes me want to throw all my money at NYCB. Many exciting debuts. I’m looking forward to Lauren King in Emeralds, as well. I didn’t realize she had done that role previously. ETA: And Harrison Ball’s return! A debut in Tschai Pas is a pretty good welcome back. She should be lovely in that Third movt. Link to comment

Maybe now that Martins is gone, some of the ballets as to which Farrell owns the copyright might enter NYCB rep, such as Tzigane. Link to comment

I saw him on Lincoln Center grounds a few weeks ago, presumably taking a noon-time break from rehearsals. Hesitated going up to say hello and good work. With 4T and Symphony in C, he finally seems to be getting tested and groomed for bigger roles. His brother, btw, is a Martha Graham dancer. Though, Woodward would seem too big a partner, physically speaking, for S. V-V. Link to comment

FPF
I also saw Sebastian Villarini-Velez at Jacob's Pillow a few weeks ago. He was one of the taller men in Interplay. I don't think he's a giant, but he's also not short. Link to comment
