What a treat - thank you! Corella is even better than we remember - the rock-solid pirouettes that go on and on forever, the super-high split jumps, the endless one-arm lifts...best of all, he seems to enjoy himself so much. His enthusiasm is truly infectious.

I agree! He is really fantastic! I didn't remember either how good he was and in this performance he is one of the best Basilio!

Van Manen Part 1 is Trois Gnossiennes, Solo and Adagio Hammerklavier.  The Swan Lake is by Rudi van Danzig.   Each of their productions has remained up for a week so far.

You might find it interesting now to compare with an old broadcast of NYCB in Serenade, and note the differences in tempo and flow of the dancing. (Unfortunately the video is so blurry that you won't be able to catch small details.) The Russian companies generally try to enhance the classicism of the steps, while the NYCB Balanchine style was more about unrelenting high-speed virtuosity and musicality.

Don’t miss Helgi Tomasson’s Romeo & Juliet streaming on SF Ballet @ Home on Fri, May 8 at 2:30 pm PDT (for one week only!), featuring Mathilde Froustey and Carlo Di Lanno in the title roles, and the 2015 Live from Lincoln Center broadcast performance on Lincoln Center at Home on Mon, May 11 at 2:30 pm PDT featuring Maria Kochetkova and Davit Karapetyan in the title roles.

It was always a treat to get to see Karapetyan dance, and now that he has retired to teach, this is the only chance anyone will get to see him in action. Don't miss it.

So is it two different casts in the SFB R&J? Sorry, not so clear.

I tend to like many interpretations (or parts) from Russia of George Balanchine’s works. This video from the Perm Ballet of "Serenade" and "Ballet Imperial" is certainly one of them.

The video  was taken off the next day. I emailed the company and the lady sent a very nice reply saying that it can’t be run at length on the internet because of copyrights, etc. She did say that the company is hoping that it can be included in a new subscription series that it would like to launch in the middle of June. I certainly look forward to the chance of being able to watch it — a lot.

There are all sorts of ways to interpret and appreciate George Balanchine. I liked very much the way that the Miami City Ballet did it when Edward Villella was there. The company had real personality, sense of family, zest and talent. I haven’t had a chance to see it much since his departure.

One NYCB performance on video from when George Balanchine was there, that I’m very fond of, is Allegra Kent’s and Jacques d’Amboise’s Divertissement Duet from “A Midsummer NIght’s Dream.” It’s so lyrically beautiful with a very thoughtful, sensitive and lovely performance.

I generally like the lyrical, graceful approach to ballet. At this, dancers from Russia often excel.

I watched the Dutch National Ballet Han Van Manen Part 1 last night. I had seen many years ago and many times Pa Ballet perform Adagio Hammerkavier. The dancers are great. Some are not with the company anymore. I did have trouble with the streaming stopping and starting, etc. I wish more companies in the US would perform more of his works. Looking forward to HVM part 2.

The Hamburg Ballet is streaming John Neumeier's Illusions - like Swan Lake, which recasts the ballet as the story of Ludwig II of Bavaria (contemporary of Tchaikovsky, swan fixation, closeted homosexual, death by drowning) and includes a much earlier redaction of the lakeside scene, staged by Alexandra Danilova, which includes huntsmen, Odette's mime, less familiar corps formations and the adage as a pas de trois. Plus the Black Swan pd2. Online for 48 hours.

WHAT: National Dance Institute (NDI), the non-profit arts education organization founded in 1976 by legendary New York City Ballet principal dancer, Jacques d’Amboise, will host its 44th Annual Gala: From the Heart remotely this year. NDI’s virtual gala will be an online livestream event of dance, music, and revelry to support the extraordinary work NDI is doing to bring the arts into the lives of children throughout New York City, across the United States, and around the world. More than 60,000 children participate in NDI programs annually.
