Whoever is doing the tech got some really well balanced and clear sound out of everyone. The audio levels of all instruments are balanced and that is impressive given how most Zoom meetings go. 😉 Edited April 26, 2020 by pherank

He's the one person dressed in the typical 'at home' manner.

Buddy
Still much recommended for the hour or so remaining, Olga Smirnova. She manages to maintain character, actually live character, without missing a second through highly impressive and highly demanding athletic dancing. Starting at 8:20 https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=1875&v=aH565fJP5Qs&feature=emb_logo And the brief several minutes of Svetlana Zakhorova's fine and accomplished, expressive dancing at 1:46:40 Edited April 26, 2020 by Buddy
Buddy
Did anyone who speaks Russian hear Valery Gergiev’s introduction to The Sleeping Beauty yesterday ? If so, could you relate what he said ?
ECat
Yes, I'd love to hear the translation for the introduction as well! Alina Somova is not one of my favorite Mariinsky ballerinas, however one cannot help but be charmed by her. Alina radiates a sincere innocence and radiates sunshine. She certainly shines as Princess Aurora. What I admire about her the most is how hard she has worked throughout her career to become the dancer she is today. She naturally has very long and hyperextended legs, extreme flexibility and most likely instability in her ligaments. One can only imagine how difficult it would be to wrangle those lovely long legs of hers. In my opinion, she lacked strength in the beginning of her career and didn't always have full control over her long limbs, but she has gained so much strength and stability and has become a world-renowned ballerina. Kudos to her!
Buddy
I like her performance very much as well, ECat. I'm moving this over here because there's great virtuoso dancing at the end and it will give me more space at "cheerful video for the day." 😊 Thanks to my daughter for these. Buddy
By the way, I really like the young lady’s dancing at 3:10 (upper left corner) of this video. It’s ‘dreamlike’ modern that I’d like to see a lot more of. Does anyone know where I can ? I have no inclination to watch Somova's Aurora and even less desire to listen to Gergiev, but the video showed up among my YouTube suggestions, and since fellow posters asked for a translation, I watched the introduction. Gergiev said he was addressing first and foremost Russian lovers of classical music and theater, and went through a long list of cities, where a canceled Mariinsky tour should have taken place. He noted that mariinsky.tv had an international audience and that it had recently passed 28 million views and that in a time of uncertainty, people still wanted to listen to classical music and see their favorite artists. He expressed hope that the theater would soon resume its normal activities and wished everyone to remain safe. He didn't say the word ballet once. Now I feel like I need a shower, although to be honest, Gergiev looked like he needed one more.
