Korean/Canadian dancer Dong Hyun Seo, who danced at the National Ballet of Canada 2000-2007 and also Houston Ballet 2007-2009, Universal Ballet 2009-2011 has passed away, the National Ballet of Canada’s instagram and Facebook has announced. All of us at The National Ballet of Canada are deeply saddened to hear the heartbreaking news that former dancer Dong Hyun Seo has passed away. Dong danced with the company from 2000 – 2007 and formed many enduring friendships here. Last summer, in collaboration with his former schoolmate Nehemiah Kish, he held gala concerts in Sapporo and Akita called Royal Stars Gala, with stars such as Francesca Hayward, Yasmine Naghdi, Sarah Lamb, William Bracewell, Akane Takada and Ryoichi Hirano. Nehemiah Kish has also posted his condolences. The girl in the halter neck olive or dark blue leotard wearing ballet slippers while giving fouettés (at the right of the screen, 1:20:46) is Kanon Kimura. https://www.abt.org/people/kanon-kimura/?type=performer Kotomi Yamada (in a pale green leotard, left side of the screen) does the fouettés later and she is also a very good turner and got applauded at the very end.

As I have noted in the Vienna State Ballet topic, Alessandra Ferri will be taking over the role of Artistic Director there so if ABT will be doing Woolf Works at the MET in 2024, this might be one of the last chances to see her perform live.   7. Stuttgart Ballet's Taming of the Shrew (which made it way to DVD) was broadcasted in Japan so I have seen it, and it was a fine performance. However, I wished that this ballet should have been recorded 10 years ago when Jason Reilly was at his best and was phenomenal in this ballet.
  8. Also a fabulous performance of Diana and Acteon by Takumi Miyake, new apprentice at ABT. He was awarded the Ninette de Valois Prize at Royal Ballet School for the most outstanding male graduate of the year but was unable to be auditioned for Royal Ballet because he was injured then.
  9. Evgenie Neff, former principal at Mariinsky (Kirov) Ballet and former ballet master at Universal Ballet in Korea has passed away. He was 69.   14. It seems Mathilde Froustey is joining Bordeaux Opera Ballet, according to Danses Avec La Plume. (journalist Amelie Bertrand) She will be dancing Kitri on June 30th there. (

  19. Israel Galvin is absolutely fantastic and is a phenomenal artist, a dancer like no other. I recommend seeing his performance too.
  20. I have seen Mai Kageyama as Giselle in Japan a few years ago and she was delicate and fabulous. She also danced Giselle this time and I think you can see a few snippets of her Giselle during the intermission of the performance. (approximately from 56 minutes in the stream)
  21. Ballet Class on Mariinsky 2's stage will be streamed on the 23rd.
  22. Sometimes The Korean National Ballet streams their whole productions online but they are only streamed live and don't keep archives. So I have seen several performances by that way and they have a very high standard of Classical Ballet. Kiwan Kim, one of the principals is a brother of Kimin Kim.
