miliosr Posted January 24, 2017 Posted January 24, 2017 Starting the new topic because the official announcement is this week.

miliosr Posted January 25, 2017 Author Posted January 25, 2017 The announced season tracks exactly with what leaked weeks ago. It's hard to know how many of these works are Aurelie Dupont's choices and how many of them are holdovers from Benjamin Millepied's two seasons/were in the works before he resigned. The all de Keersmaeker program and Bausch's Le Sacre du printemps were part of the 2015-16 season. Pite's Seasons' Canon is from earlier this season. Some of the names on the mixed bill with Pite would appear to be more to Millepied's taste than Dupont's. Also, Dupont's hand was forced to some extent by the fact that the etoiles Marie-Agnes Gillot and Herve Moreau are retiring next season and they chose to depart in, respectively, Orphee et Eurydice (with which Gillot is closely identified) and the Waltz Romeo et Juliette (which Moreau helped to originate.) Side note: etoile Jérémie Bélingard is leaving this Spring as part of the Cunningham/Forsythe program, etoile Laëtitia Pujol is departing in Emeralds in New York in July, and etoile Karl Paquette is leaving in 2018-19 in Nureyev's Cinderella. http://www.leparisien.fr/flash-actualite-culture/danse-aurelie-dupont-assume-le-retour-du-classique-a-l-opera-25-01-2017-6616596.php#xtor=AD-1481423554 In any event, my takeaway as to the good news from next season would be Ashton's La Fille, Balanchine's Jewels, Bejart's Bolero, Cranko's Onegin and Nureyev's Don Q. (Nice, in particular, to see Bejart and Cranko return to the Opera after the purge.)
volcanohunter Posted January 25, 2017 Posted January 25, 2017 Hopefully this information will be filled out in sources longer than 140 characters, but the company will be spending a week in Chicago and two weeks in New York in the summer of 2018. The repertoire will include Lacotte's La Sylphide, ballets by Crystal Pite (The Seasons' Canon?) and Ivan Perez (the new piece?), William Forsythe's Blake Works, plus Le Jeune homme et la mort and Etudes. Part of the company will be staying at home to perform La Fille mal gardée, exactly as during the last American tour.

Josette Posted January 26, 2017 Posted January 26, 2017 Oh, volcanohunter, thanks for the U.S. tour news in 2018. I'm so excited about this!
The bolded part translates, roughly, into: "Just as it would be unimaginable to be director of the New York City Ballet and to remove from the program all the American choreographers by launching: "Now we are going to do Russian ballet, Serge Lifar, Roland Petit and nothing else." While I agree wholeheartedly with the sentiment expressed, the comment itself is funny because she didn't program any Russian ballet/Ballets Russe, Lifar or Petit!
silvermash Posted January 27, 2017 Posted January 27, 2017 well she was maybe constrained by previous commitments made by Millepied. She managed to get the rights back to POB for Béjart Boléro and she programmed Petit masterpiece Le Jeune homme et la mort for the 2018 US tour, which probably means it will be in her next season. Besides, excerpts from Lifar Suite en blanc will be danced during the Homage to Yvette Chauvire next April
volcanohunter Posted January 28, 2017 Posted January 28, 2017 (edited) The Paris Opera has posted itty-bitty clips of next season's productions. Edited January 28, 2017 by volcanohunter
Helene Posted January 28, 2017 Posted January 28, 2017 The opera season looks far more interesting to me: a Sellars staging of Saariaho's "Only the Sound Remains," Janacek's "In the House of the Dead," the Parsifal cast, Boesmans 1993 "Reigen" based on Schnitzler's "La Ronde," and Barbara Hannigan singing "She" in Poulenc's "La voix humaine."
Josette Posted January 29, 2017 Posted January 29, 2017 I am seriously considering September-October when the opera is doing Pelleas et Melisande and the ballet is dancing Jewels.
Olga Posted July 24, 2017 Posted July 24, 2017 Does anyone know the dates POB will be in New York in Summer 2018? I couldn't find anything on their website.
silvermash Posted July 25, 2017 Posted July 25, 2017 Tour dates are often published at the last minute on the website, if they are. But it might change as this was the first time this year we had information and name of the dancers. I believe US theatres will be the first to annouce details. It was said I think June or July.
mussel Posted July 25, 2017 Posted July 25, 2017 The 2018 American tour will cover 3 cities over 4 weeks. NY will be the last leg of the tour with 3 programs over 2 weeks as part of Lincoln Center Festival. The other city will be Dallas.

Sounds like a substantial tour and a lot of it in New York. Also some interesting choreographers. I guess the precise dates are still unknown.
ballet_n00b Posted July 26, 2017 Posted July 26, 2017 I'm planning to attend Jewels, Don Quixote, Onegin and maybe la fille mal gardée . However, I don't usually book until I've seen the distributions.
