Most Handsome Male Dancer(s)

Recommended Posts

I think Cory Stearns is eye candy.

Oh dear, a google search tells me that "eye candy" may connote that the person is lacking in depth or intelligence and is only a "pretty face." That's not at all what I mean to suggest about Cory. I think he has a gorgeous ballet line and his acting continues to grow in depth. He was amazing, for example, in The Moor's Pavane. I mean "eye candy" in the most positive light--he is, quite simply, in addition to everything else he brings to the stage, gorgeous to look at.

I totally agree with Cubanmiamiboy, what in heavens name is Frometa doing in the CORPS at Cincinnati Ballet (nothing against the city). Surely he should be at least a principal. I keep hoping that Tamara Rojo (with whom he has danced a number of times) might make him a principal at ENB. That is the level where he (I think) belongs. Surely he has worked hard enough to deserve the right.

Romel Frometa, Cincinnati Ballet, ex Principal Ballet Nacional de Cuba-(how come he's in the corps at CB...? speechless-smiley-003.gif )

Thank you for reviving this thread, Cristian.

Sometimes the only job open comes with a corps contract. I don't know that this was the case for Frometa, just suggesting that maybe ...

Good to see you here, meunier fan. Welcome to BalletAlert! flowers.gif

Wow, what an incredibly long thread! here's my votes:

Ivan Nagy (don't think anyone's mentioned him yet), Erik Bruhn, Peter Martins, George Zoritch. I saw someone mention Christopher Gables in there somewhere, and that brought back memories of one of my favorite ballet books as a child......

Definitely. He was a wonderful partenaire for Miss Valdes, and they created one of the best DQ ever filmed. Yes, he should go to England...

Love this topic!

Marcelo Gomes is definitely #1 for me. I also agree with Federico Bonelli and Roberto Bolle.

Even though he is old enough to be my father, I still think Baryshnikov is incredibly sexy.

And last, but definitely not least, Fabrice Calmels. I could stare at his Instagram photos all day!

I've enjoyed re reading this thread and I've seen a large number of those mentioned.  I rate beautiful dancing ahead of faces but the addition of good looks never hurts.  Perhaps the most handsome is Bolle and there seems a consensus here that he is THE ONE.  Going back many decades Christopher Gable was so romantic as was Julian Hosking a few years later.

The male dancers in Copenhagen and Paris will always be winners in the looks stakes.

Jorge Donn, what can I say except sex on legs.  But for looks, charisma and magnetism Gediminas Taranda beats the lot.

When Jérémie Bélingard was promoted to étoile at the POB, I was a little puzzled, until I saw him in person and understood that he had Taranda-grade sex appeal.

In truth, Taranda is not very good looking in real life, though he is big and tall. Bélingard is handsome, but I wouldn't say he has an ideal physique.

I wouldn't actually consider most of the dancers on this thread objectively handsome. I think their appeal lies in their dancing, their onstage personalities, perhaps in their bodies. My first great ballet crush (that is, the first I traveled to see, within reason, since I was a child) was ordinary-looking in real life. But on stage he transformed into an extremely beautiful creature. Partly this was because his strong Scottish bones required only a little emphasis around the eyes and eyebrows. Mostly it was what one of his partners called his "very special radiance."

I once said to my sister that Peter Martins was beautiful. She countered that he resembled Ted Cassidy as Lurch on The Addams Family. (Reruns of that show played on one of the New York channels on weekdays.) There is a moment in the PBS video of Stravinsky Violin Concerto where Kay Mazzo stands leaning her back against Martins' chest. The shot was taken from underneath and of course Mazzo's head looked tiny compared to Martins', and his jaw appeared enormous from that angle. My sister had a point.

My mother had trouble accepting a certain of the Royal Ballet's Albrechts because she thought he resembled Shrek. She had a point also. I was never able to look at him the same way again.

I beg to differ, he has a smile that can knock you sideways.  He clearly has supporters here so I will add the news that his daughter Dyamante (not sure of spelling) now dances with the Bolshoi.  On a sadder note his younger brother Vitautus, who also danced with the Bolshoi, has very recently died at the age of 59.  Brothers are seldom closer than those two were, it must have been a terrible blow to him.
