  1. https://www.theguardian.com/world/2017/sep/22/nureyev-ballet-to-open-in-moscow-despite-directors-house-arrest Report in English.
  2. Some videos of Eleonora Sevenard's Black Swan from her instagram. At this point, she seems to have more refined technique. We'll see how those two mature. (those videos were filmed in May, while she was still a student) https://www.instagram.com/p/BTqY-80AN9e/?taken-by=elya_7ard https://www.instagram.com/p/BTvfrF-A6KA/?taken-by=elya_7ard Kovaleva's Black Swan (last pic of this Instagram, scroll to the right) https://www.instagram.com/p/BZGgvnnjcg3/
  3. Some videos on YouTube about the Kovaleva/Tissi/soares debut
  4. I am not sure whether it is OK to post videos here so I won't but there are several posts on various instagrams filming Kovaleva's performance, and indeed her fouettes were travelling a lot and fell off pointe at the end. It wasn't "wobbling a bit" . But of course she is very young and inexperienced.
  5. Report of press conference of Medinsky, Sokhiev, Urin, Vasiev (in Russian) He speaks about prospects of performing "Nureyev", reperoire and new joiners. http://www.mk.ru/culture/2017/09/12/prapravnuchka-matildy-kshesinskoy-popolnila-truppu-bolshogo-teatra.html Vaziev hopes that the premiere of the ballet "Nureyev" will be held in December 2017. (but it is uncertain) He regards the most valuable acquisition is Mark Chino : a unique Russian-Japanese dancer, prize-winner and "golden" winner of many international competitions including Moscow. in September Mark Chino will dance Etudes. John Neumeier's Anna Karenina will be shown on the Historical Stage on March 23; ballet "Romeo and Juliet" staged by Alexei Ratmansky (November 22) as well as a one-act ballet by Jiri Kilian "The Forgotten Land" to the music of "Requiem" by Benjamin Britten. The premiere of "The Great Petipa" to the 200th anniversary of his birth, scheduled for July 6, 7, 8, is canceled. Vaziev said that in connection with the tragic death of Sergei Vikharev, it does not make sense to conduct it. As for Petipa's jubilee, on May 31, a gala concert of world ballet stars dedicated to the ballet classics will take place on the Historical Stage. The ballet "Coppelia" (on the ballet Petipa and Cecchetti) by Sergei Vikharev will be resumed. However, the "premiere" of this renewal, planned earlier on the New Stage on December 14 (now the ballet "The Flame of Paris" is on the playbill), due to the tragic death of the choreographer and the transfer of the ballet "Nureyev" , Coppelia now scheduled to be shown in the second half of the season.

  8. It seems no one has mentioned about the change of roster here. so I will add some information. http://www.bolshoi.ru/en/persons/ballet/all/ Nina Kaptsova, Maria Alexandrova and Maria Allash have all moved from Principal to Working under Contract. Dimitry Gudanov's name has disappeared (he seems to be retired) and also David Hallberg's name is missing. Some debuts. As well as Kovaleva and Tissi's debut in Swan Lake on September 16th matinee (Soares as the Evil Genius), Marc Chino (winner of Moscow International Competition) in Etudes on September 30th matinee, Artemy Belyakov as Siegfried on September 17th. 12. Yes, you're right - she trained, at least in part, in Australia. Thanks for the correction, Katherine. Hannah O'Neil was born in Japan to parents from New Zealand and Japan, and her initial training (until 8) was in Japan. (she does have Japanese nationality). And she was trained in both NZ and Australia (she graduated from Australian Ballet School) So it is hard to define what singular country she is from. http://hannah-oneill.com/profile/
  13. Casting of Giselle and The Winter's Tale has been posted. http://www.roh.org.uk/productions/giselle-by-peter-wright http://www.roh.org.uk/productions/the-winters-tale-by-christopher-wheeldon David Hallberg will be guesting in Giselle opposite Natalia Osipova
  14. Yes, both Isabelle Ciaravola and Agnes Letestu were on that Japan tour March 2014 dancing Marguerite in La Dame aux Camellias. Ciaravola had just officially retired in Onegin that February. Letestu was given a ceremony on stage after the performance with confetti but Ciaravola didn't. (I don't know why)
  15. Bolshoi director denies Nureyev ballet postponed due to gay content https://www.theguardian.com/world/2017/jul/10/bolshoi-director-denies-nureyev-ballet-postponed-due-to-gay-content?CMP=share_btn_tw I don't know how true is Urin's statement.

  17. Vyacheslav Lopatin has been promoted to principal. Congratulations! http://www.bolshoi.ru/persons/ballet/all/
  18. Jurgita Dronina is joining English National Ballet as lead principal, following her recent guest appearances at their Giselle on tour. She will also appear in their Japan tour Coppelia and also Romeo and Juliet at Southbank Centre in August. https://www.ballet.org.uk/blog-detail/welcoming-jurgita-dronina-new-lead-principal/ She remains at National Ballet of Canada as principal.
  19. According to Japanese press, Koya Okawa wins Gold medal, Midori Terada wins Bronze medal for senior division, Mark Chino wins Gold medal for Junior division. https://mainichi.jp/articles/20170620/k00/00e/040/144000c
  20. Yes but I heard that Laurent Hilaire did not participate in the evaluation of his daughter's entrance exam, and after she joined the company he also did not evaluate her at the annual promotion exams to avoid criticism. And Juliette Hilaire was not pushed hard for roles in the company when her father was the ballet master. Laurent Hilare had another daughter enrolled in the POB school but she was not accepted in the company.
  21. Hannah Fischer might have talent but her performance in The Winter's Tale was emotionally flat, apparently too young and inexperienced for the role and raised questions about why she was placed in the first cast. And her performance of The Dying Swan in Svetlana Lunkina's gala was mediocre, jerky and one of the worst performances I saw of this ballet so I thought what a bad joke to have her perform Odette/Odile in Swan Lake when there are other dancers (and principals!) who have already proved they can do the role perfectly.

  23. I haven't read that interview so I didn't know. I thought it was announced officially
  24. Envy those who would be able to see this joint company Jewels! Pujol's retirement would be emotional.
