  1. Florimond Lorieux, sujet of Paris Opera Ballet announced that he will be joining Boston Ballet as a soloist next season on his Facebook. https://www.facebook.com/florimond.lorieux/posts/10155024908198902?pnref=story
  2. One thing that must be said is about the 15 year clause (which some of you must be aware), a German opera house has to provide lifetime employment if a personnel is hired over 15 years. So many companies do not renew contract for dancers who have worked almost 15 years. This explains some of the departures at Stuttgart Ballet. (and usually you are in your mid-thirties, if you worked for 15 years you would be in your mid-thirties which means it will be difficult to have another job as a dancer so some seek to move before that) Apparently, some of the departures (4 or 5 dancers) this time is related to this.
  3. Ouch! (Globe and Arts review of Le Petit Prince) http://www.theglobeandmail.com/arts/theatre-and-performance/theatre-reviews/national-ballets-ambitious-le-petite-prince-falls-flat/article30283389/
  4. But sometimes going out to another smaller company gives you a brighter future, such as Matthew Golding who moved to Corella Ballet and then to Dutch National Ballet, and now he is a principal at Royal Ballet. We can never tell what path should be better or not.
  5. The Leaves Are Fading had been brilliantly performed in 2014 and 2015 by two different companies in Japan, both staged by Amanda McKerrow and John Gardner. One of the companies, Star Dancers Ballet also performed an all Tudor program last year (The Leaves are Fading, Jardin aux Lilas and Pillar of Fire, Romeo and Juliet) and they also performed Jardin aux Lilas in a gala this April which was broadcasted nationwide (also McKerrow and Gardner came to stage). I had spoken with McKerrow and she was so enthusiastic about staging The Leaves are Fading for POB. So this consequence is sad. I don't think this work is limited for US. For instance, at the Lefevere era POB had performed works such as DeMille's Fall River Legend (of course this was in the repertoire in the 90's) which is also a very North American work.
  6. The Leaves Are Fading is not a new add to POB's repertoire, there was an All Tudor Program in the past. And the article about the repetiteurs is so weird.
  7. And Le Figaro article by Ariane Bavelier http://www.lefigaro.fr/culture/2016/06/03/03004-20160603ARTFIG00303-opera-de-paris-benjamin-millepied-annule-encore.php
  8. Journalists Laura Cappelle and Ariane Bavelier, Philippe Noisette have tweeted that the Tudor/Millepied double bill expected for 2016/17 season has been cancelled and replaced by a Jiri Kylian triple bill. 9. Slightly off the topic but Sony Center in Toronto has announced some good visiting performances. http://www.sonycentre.ca/calendar-event-details/?id=256 NEDERLANDS DANS THEATER - Mixed Programme November 9, 2016 BATSHEVA DANCE COMPANY: Decadance 2017 January 14, 2017 EIFMAN BALLET ST. PETERSBURG: Red Giselle May 11-13, 2017 This could be much better than the boring repertoire of the National Ballet (although no details of what NDT will be performing yet. Especially Batsheva's Decadance is a masterpiece and could not be missed.
  10. Shklyarov has admitted that he and Shirinkina signed one-year contract with Bayerische Staatsoper. But they have not left Mariinsky, they will take a one-year sabbatical. http://www.evening-kazan.ru/articles/vladimir-shklyarov-v-mariinskom-teatre-ya-uzhe-stanceval-vse-chto-hotel.html
  11. The winners are; Choreographers: Johan Inger and Yuri Possukhov Ballerinas: Alicia Amatriain and Hannah O'Neill Dancers: Kim Kimin Scenographers: Ren Dongsheng http://m.ria.ru/culture/20160517/1435334970.html
  12. And now the dancers are announced. June 15 will be the premiere cast of Tereshkina and Syklyarov. Curious that the two other casts are almost entirely new from the March performances.
  13. Natalia, it seems your speculation is correct. The Bronze Horseman will be filmed in June according to this. http://www.telmondis.fr/productions/dance/534__The-Bronze-Horseman-2016.htm I went to see the Bronze Horseman at the Mariinsky Festival and enjoyed that as a whole, hope I can write some impressions on the Mariinsky thread later.
  14. There is information that La Bayadere on May 1st featuring Vishneva, Kim and Tereshkina was filmed. As mentioned above, a recent recording of Bayadere with Tereshkina, Shklyarov has been released in Japan, so a little strange that there will be two La Bayaderes in a short period of time. Also Little Humped Back Horse with Somova was broadcasted in Japan recently (along with the DVD released Bayadere, Sleeping Beauty) but has not been released as DVD. Plus, a Vaganova Ballet Academy documentary, filming 8 years of a class has also been released recently. http://amzn.to/27babV7
  15. This article indicates Jahna Frantziskonis is 5′ 3″ http://dancemagazine.com/inside-dm/on_the_rise_jahna_frantziskonis/ It was nice to see those tags on the Olga costume.
  16. Very curious to hear about ABT's golden age, as I was not so into ballet then (I was too small), I did first seem them in 1994 in Japan but first time seeing them in the States was 2003 as I live in Tokyo. Thank you! Regarding short programs, I was surprised they did La Sylphide on its own, it is a short ballet and other companies usually do this with another one. One reason might be that they cram too many programs in a short period in March. (and no ballet at all in April and May) I think this has to do with the opera company but I wish the schedules were not like this.
  17. Slightly off topic but workwithinwork at ABT was 2003 and 2004, also Petit Mort and Sechs Tanze the same time (I saw them at City Center) . I don't think they have done them ever since. But it was a beautiful performance, it was the golden age of ABT.
  18. I also think the season is not attractive, although Neumeier's A Street Car Named Desire is a fabulous work. There are too many Kudelkas, which are not interesting and misogynistic at times. I am not sure I will be there in this season at all (well mainly for family reasons) For Balanchine, they usually do at least one work per season so it is kind of rare that they don't have it on 2016-17. But they just did Rubies and the Four Temperaments in March. I think very few companies in North America actually do Kylian or Forsythe (as mentioned above, NBoC did them in the past). If you want to see them, you'd better go to Europe than go NYC. As kbarber has mentioned above, I think they have to pay the bills so less mixed programs and more family friendly ballet. Of course that is not exciting for balletomanes. Will Tuckett is a good choreographer (he creates ballet that seems to have targeted children but they are actually dark and amusing) so Pinocchio might turn out actually good. And Hamburg Ballet revealed their new season, indicating Neumeier's Anna Karenina is a joint production with Bolshoi and NBoC, that means we can expect this in 2017-18
  19. again after posting on this thread the link got removed... I think it is not wise to post illegal footage here because they monitor this forum.
  20. Hope you enjoy JumpFrog! You know Svetlana Lunkina was the youngest Giselle in Bolshoi and is one of the best Giselles in the ballet world. Probably she will be partnered by Evan McKie who has just guested at Mariinsky in Giselle and they have great chemistry together. Also Jurgita Doronina is a great Giselle too (as you have seen her you must have imagined) The production is by Peter Wright and it is a good one (slightly different from that of Royal Ballet which also performs Wright's but as fine as them)
  21. These days, if the seats are not selling well they close the 5th ring. (In Romeo and Juliet this happened for the weekday performances) I think the quality of the company is fairly high (especially the corps men are very strong) , but there are leading casts I would avoid (they are simply not worth the 200 CAD tickets) You really must not miss Svetlana Lunkina and Jurgita Dronina here, they are top ballerinas in the world.
  22. Rush tickets for Romeo and Juliet were 60 CAD. But tickets seldom gets sold out. Just Nutcrackers and performances on Sunday afternoons. Rush tickets go on sale 11:00am and can be purchased online. If you are lucky you can get a decent seat. Also there are discount offers as Volcanohunter has mentioned. But I would recommend to buy tickets after the casting has been announced.
  23. Yuri Smekalov speaks about The Bronze Horseman http://www.mariinsky.ru/en/news1/news2/18_233march2/
  24. And an article on Liberation about the cancellation of the Millepied/Parreno creation http://next.liberation.fr/culture-next/2016/03/24/millepied-parti-ses-spectacles-aussi_1441746
  25. Laura Capelle tweeted this https://twitter.com/bellafigural/status/712979145127542784 Just in: Millepied/Parreno creation planned for July 2017 @BalletOParis replaced by the company premiere of Keersmaeker's Drumming. https://twitter.com/bellafigural/status/712980166969057280 Reason given for the cancellation: Millepied in L.A. from this summer, Parreno lives in Paris, too difficult time-wise. @BalletOParis (administrators, Laura Capelle writes for Financial Times and Dance Magazine and could be considered as official source)
