  1. Lopatkina and Vishineva did dance Nikiya on Mariinsky Ballet's Japan tour in November 2012. They had 4 performances of Bayadere, and the others danced the role was Skorik (her role debut) and Kondaurova. (first, Somova and Tereshkina were announced but they went on maternity leave as mentioned above) http://japanarts.co.jp/mariinsky_ballet2012/english.htm Well, Lopatkina and Vishneva might have danced the role because they were on tour.
  2. I know both very well and I have hard time seeing similarities (by the way, is it really necessaryto create "nick-abbreviations" like "Tickho"? ballerinas are not rappers or DJ's). I was very irritated by some posters who called Tikhomirova "Tikho". It seemed kind of lack of respect to a wonderful ballerina. And also I agree to Mathilde mentioning there are not much similarities between Tikhomirova and Osipova.
  3. I have no doubt that Smirnova has wonderful talent and would be a great ballerina, but each time I see her (for instance,at YAGP gala and live relay of Marco Spada) I think sometimes her en dehors is not efficient, sometimes her pivot feet tacked in. Besides that, I find no flaw with her.
  4. And no one writing reviews of the LA tour here I wonder how they were received.
  5. In this article Jann Parry writes this, http://dancetabs.com/2014/07/paris-opera-ballet-nicolas-le-riche-farwell-gala-paris/
  6. A Russian article saying that Shapran and Bondareva joined Mariinsky http://konkretno.ru/o_visokom/69930-dve-baleriny-mixajlovskogo-teatra-pereshli-v-marinku.html
  7. Paris Opera does perform to recorded music in some modern repertoire, my experience was in Emanuelle Gat's "HARK !".
  8. Anastasia Kolegova did dance Nikiya as a guest to Milhailovsky Ballet's Japan tour a few years ago (opposite to Igor Kolb who was also guesting). But maybe that was her debut at the Mariinsky.
  9. The Saracen (=Arab) Knight Abherakhman depicted like evil or maniac with exaggerated makeup, and the crusader knight Jean de Brienne wins over him.
  10. I don't think Vikharev's reconstructed Raymonda makes sense in ABT, the costumes are dated and won't look good on modern day dancers, and there is always the "politically correctness" issue in this ballet.
  11. Where is the source for these information? Or is this a wish list?

  13. It has also been reported on NYT http://artsbeat.blogs.nytimes.com/2014/06/30/isabella-boylston-promoted-to-principal-dancer-at-american-ballet-theater/?smid=nytimesarts
  14. Slightly off topic but David Hallberg just tweeted this @DavidHallberg Follow Congrats to Isabella Boyleston on being the newest principal of @ABTBallet
  15. Alina Cojocaru has danced with Roberto Bolle at the Scala in Romeo and Juliet a few years ago. But anyway, hope she will be fine as she has her own Gala in Tokyo from July 20th.
  16. Mathilde Froustey has announced that she will stay in San Francisco for the next season on her twitter and facebook. https://twitter.com/MFroustey/status/480394254284374017
  17. There are short promotion video clips on the official site of Paris Opera Ballet http://www.operadeparis.fr/saison-2013-2014/ballet/cullberg-de-mille
  18. There is a DVD available for Petit's Proust, Intermittence Le Coeur, performed by Paris Opera Ballet. It is a beautiful work and I like this work very much, but a very French work and I doubt ABT's audience will like it. There is some nudity in this work. The male duet is frequently performed at galas, and Marcelo Gomes, David Hallberg has performed that part in galas. MacMillan's Invitation is a powerful piece (I also have seen it in full) but this ballet has a violent rape scene of an adolescent girl and I doubt it will be acceptable for the ABT audience too.
  19. Looking at those curtain call videos and photos, I feel it is very strange that ballerinas in the role of Manon take off their short wings and appear in long hair. Why do they do this? I think it is beautiful that the ballerina is lost in their roles and still feeling their passion of the performance during curtain call.

    Denis Nedak

I also have seen Denis Nedak several times in National Ballet of Ukraine performances, in such roles as Basilio and Solor. This troupe tours regularly in Japan, like once or twice a year. He is not a flashy dancer but is tall and has stellar classical technique and is a good partner, quite noble. But not with a super-star potential.
  21. And here's a digest video of Mathilde Froustey in Paris Opera Ballet's Don Quixote last month.
  22. ABT did perform the Piano Concerto in their Japan tour in February, so there might be some chance of reviving it.
  23. Aurelie Dupont is expected to retire this season with Manon.
  24. Thank you for your detailed report sasark. Very informative! I heard there had been many injuries in the company, resulting in many last minute cast changes. Olga Esina was too tall to partner Denys Cherevychko so they had to change the Aurora ballerina that time. It has been Nina's role debut and Denys was only the third cast so I am relieved he did well. Also nice to hear that Kiyoka Hashimoto was wonderful as Florine.
