    Paul Sutherland

Mr Sutherland staged Rodeo for ABT this season: http://www.broadwayworld.com/article/THE-SLEEPING-BEAUTY-OTHELLO-and-More-Set-for-ABTs-Spring-2015-Season-at-the-Met-20141016
  2. Is Yana Selina one of the dancers in this Paquita pas de Trois? Ballet alert inspired me to watch some Pavlova clips and noticed her high extension well above 90 at various points in choreography and of the extended leg in tour jete landings. Are there any Pavlova videos that have been adjusted for frames and speed to remove the jerkiness?
  3. Marchuk and Brileva have uniquely beautiful stage presence as does another dancer not identified in Paquita [first onstage in the second group of 4 in brown]. After about a minute of googling, I believe she's Margarita Frolova. Shklyarov had the aura of Baryshnikov but Baryshnikov's Rose costume [less petals and no floral bathing cap] is preferable. I hope the lighting was adjusted from Tuesday so the Swan was seen adequately from all seats. Skorik's Pacquita was exquisite and intense. Kondaurova was ravishing, golden. Matvienko was flamboyant and high energy. Lopatkina had elements of all the others. I am so happy the Mariinsky was here this week.
  4. Here's a link to a video of the curtain call on Jan 27. Perhaps you all can identify the dancers:
  5. I believe Marchuk had the costume changes. During open rehearsal all I spoke with noted the poor lighting for the Swan. From tier 1 Skoryk almost seemed as if she was behind a scrim although in the orchestra we could see Lopatkina.
  6. Exactly what I did yesterday during segments of Sacre. Twice. It is a background visual [with interesting costumes and backdrops] to the music. I wish Pavlenko would dance this week in one of the many Paquita Variations. Fateyeev states the Kennedy Center requested the Rite of Spring: http://sputniknews.com/art_living/20150128/1017453908.html

    Misty Copeland

In this video she would have been studying for only a few years. She performed the Kitri variation with such joy.

    2015 US Tour

Open Rehearsal tickets went on sale today at The Kennedy Center: Mariinsky 1-27-15, Royal Ballet 6-9-15. They sell out very quickly.

  10. Hochhauser has a great twitter: https://twitter.com/V_Hochhauser I am jealous of the programming considering Hodson's Rite will be 40 minutes of dance at each Kennedy Center show in Jan 2015.
  11. I have limited opportunities to see the Mariinsky perform. Run time is 40 minutes and I'd rather see classical ballet. Firebird is 44 minutes. Apollo is 33 minutes.

    Yulia Stepanova

When I saw her in multiple performances as a Big Swan . Imagine Stepanova doing the 16 petite developpes: http://balletalert.invisionzone.com/index.php?/topic/32484-16-petit-developpes/
  13. I would rather see the usual suspects than Hodson's reconstruction of the Rite of Spring. I will enjoy at least having ballet to look at while listening to the 90 person orchestra play Stravinsky.
  14. "To me, criticism is about reconciling heart and head. As you experience a work of art, you feel something you can't at first explain, but then you bring your mind - and your whole being - into trying to explain it as rationally as you can. History is all part of that inquiry." from an interview: http://www.ballet.co.uk/magazines/yr_10/aug10/interview_alastair_macaulay.htm
  15. I saw Kolpakova do the Rose Adagio in NY as part of a mixed bill. She was beautiful and did the balances.
  16. Buddy - I am incredibly sad that I could not attend the Bolshoi Swan Lake. I wish the Mariinsky had the character brides. Decades ago I saw Bolshoi Spartacus excerpts and Phrygia was on pointe. Bessmertnova.
  17. Hope Sleeping Beauty retains traditional choreography for iconic moments including Lilac Fairy in prologue, etc.
  18. Sterling Baca replaced Forster in Gomes' After effect at the KC this spring. Baca was fantastic.
  19. I wish The Mariinsky would bring Sleeping Beauty to the USA.
  20. Laracey plus a girl in the corps who looks similar to mearns facially but a smaller physique. Blond. I have no idea who she was. Wonderful musicality, arms, etc.
