  1. Welcome back, artist101. And you remember me!! How lovely, but then I've been around forever. As you know we all share a love of ballet. Glad that you have more opportunities to see productions. The site has grooooooown since you were last here, and we have a sister site for our dance students: Ballet Talk for Dancers, which you can access it at the upper right corner at "BT for Dancers". Enjoy! Giannina
  2. Paul Parish posted this response to jps on the Welcome Forum and I have moved it here, using a very un-professional method (but it works!). To wit: Giannina
  3. If I knew ANYTHING about computers I'd know how to move the above post to a more appropriate forum. Unfortunately, I don't. So: Paul and jps: this is a very interesting topic. Since the Welcome forum is for welcoming only it does not get much traffic. Therefore I think it would be better to pursue this topic on the Dancers forum. Paul, if you could re-state your questions about Vishneva on Dancers I'm sure the discussion will start. jps, you can look for it there. Giannina (no rocket scientist)
  4. Welcome to Ballet Talk, 4mrdncr. And thank you for the compliment. Glad we can keep you "sane"; we all cling to this site as our ballet fix. You've had a wonderful ballet history/career. We look forward to your comments on our discussions. Giannina
  5. Welcome to Ballet Talk, 2dds. We're glad we've been of service to you and we hope we continue to help you. You can post on both boards, and once you have 30 posts you become "Member" rather than a "New Member" on Ballet Talk for Dancers and after 10 posts on Ballet Talk you becomea "Member." Post away and enjoy the board. Giannina
  6. Welcome to Ballet Talk, Billy. You've come to a place that's full of people who love ballet as much as you do, and we hope you enjoy the board. As a dance student you will also enjoy our sister site, Ballet Talk for Dancers. You can access it by clicking on "BT for Dancers" on the upper right hand corner of this page. There are several sites there that should be of particular interest to you. Giannina

    Glad to be Here

Welcome to Ballet Talk, winky. Glad you've enjoyed the posts and have decided to join our discussions. With your solid ballet background you have much to offer and we look forward to hearing from you. Giannina
  9. BalletNut. Well, for me anyway....primarily a perfect ballet has to have simply glorious choreography, movements that are beautiful to see and that flow smoothly together. But I find "Monotones II" perfect because the choreography fits the music perfectly (how many time am I going to use that word?). I've known the music all my life, and were I to picture dancing to it I couldn't dream up anything more....apropos....than what Ashton did. I am so thrilled by the ballet that I cannot sit still while watching it, and once done the ballet leaves me drained. Giannina

    Hi there

Welcome to Ballet Talk, Blueyes. We're very glad you're enjoying the site and hope you continue to do so. You must be very proud of your daughter, and I know your support has been a huge inspiration to her. As a parent of a dance student you will enjoy our sister site, Ballet Talk for Dancers. If you haven't already been there you can access the site by going to the upper right hand corner of this page and clicking on "BT for Dancers". That site is designed for our dance students while this one concentrates on fans. We hope you'll enjoy both sites. Giannina
  11. Ashton's "Monotones II". Giannina
  12. LOL! I chose not to see the movie because, like you, I didn't like the book one tiny bit. To think that the book is better than the movie....looks like I'm a lot smarter than I thought. Giannina

    Hello

Welcome to Ballet Talk, Bec. What a wonderful ballet background you've had; it is certainly a major part of your life. I hope you'll enjoy sharing in our discussions; all of us love ballet, as you do. Much good luck in your desire to be a ballet historian; it sounds like a wonderful career for you. Giannina
  14. Leigh, sign me up. Even tho I'll be in Moscow and St. Petersburg in Sept. I'll miss all the ballet. For years I've dreamed of a European Ballet Tour: a group tour that coincides with as many major ballet performances as possible. Of course it will start in New York! Giannina

    Greetings!

Welcome to Ballet Talk, Sarita; and thank you for your lovely compliments and the wonderful introduction. You obviously love ballet, and you are with a group of people who share that love. As a ballet student you might also enjoy our sister site, Ballet Talk for Dancers; you can access it by clicking on to "BT for Dancers" at the upper right hand corner of this page. That site is for dance students, and it contains a forum for Adult Students which you should find interesting. We hope you'll share in our discussions on both sites. Giannina
  16. I felt that the entire effect of the last scene of Vienna Waltzes was lost by the continual close up shots. You're supposed to be seeing a large group of dances multiplied by 2 (mirrors) producing a gorgeous swirling pulsation to the beautiful music. Hmmm. Giannina
  17. They could indeed. DVDs have various areas in which they are compatible and are coded as such. Be sure the DVD you order is viewable where you live. I don't know the areas/codes offhand. Giannina
  18. I've been waiting for someone to post a reply here. I've transferred tons of tapes to DVD without knowing what the heck I'm doing or why. This is all the info I can give you on your question. There are some tapes that will not transfer; they're made that way and I don't know if it's a copyright issue or not. They are the vast minority. There's a whole new issue about DVD's coming to the fore, like the VHS/Beta issue with tapes. It's been in the works for a long time and I don't know when the decision will be made. It could end up that everything I've transferred to DVD's will no longer be used and that a new process will come out. It's been discussed on the board so maybe you can find it in the archives. I've saved all the tapes after transferring them, just in case. In spite of all the above I'm very happy with my transferred tapes. The quality of the new DVD is virtually the same as the tape. Since you have to play the tape to transfer it it's an opportunity to watch tapes you haven't seen in a long time; that was the most fun of all! Giannina
  19. Romeo and Juliet, not so much because of beauty but for emotional impact. Giannina
  20. And......Makarova's jete is completely parallel to the floor. Yum! Giannina
  21. It's of Makarova, and it's hanging in my sewing/computer room. However, I can't get it onto the Board. It's Don Q's Act III, she in a grand jete with right arm raised and left hand carrying a fan. The background is black so you can't see the floor. Her "splits" in the jete is exactly 180 degrees: right leg extended to the front, straight, foot arch; left left behind her, beautifully turned out and just a tad bent at the knee yet all of it perpendicular to the floor with her toes just slightly above her heel. It is perfection. Giannina
  22. Ohmygosh; NextStage posted!! Hi there, NextStage! Giannina
  23. I thought Manon's short haircut, plus all the other women prisoners' short hair, was part of their punishment. A humiliation. Giannina
  24. May 2, 1979: ABT's "Sleeping Beauty" with Gregory and Bujones. Considering they can broadcast all these events I assume that means they have copies of the complete performance. Better yet: broadcast/release THAT!! Giannina
