  1. I must add my welcome, Alex. My husband and I were in Russia last month and spent several days in Moscow. Much to my delight I got a chance to see Zakharova in Swan Lake at the (temporary) Bolshoi Theater; Osipova was the Spanish princess. It was the highlight of the trip and I was reduced to tears of joy. We look forward to your impressiions of your ballet experiences. Giannina
  2. I think it's great. Glorious Spain already has so much to offer, and now this. Giannina
  3. I'm embarrassed to say that as a Moderator I should know the answer to this but I don't. I just discovered the CALENDAR feature of the board. I noticed that some events are in a blue box. What is the significance of the blue box? I also notice that some events are not posted, for example the upcoming Kirov tour in Orange County, California; any particular reason for that? A wonderful tool; thanks to those who take care of it. Giannina

  5. For the first 15 years of our marriage my husband wouldn't go to ballet with me and I missed that whole history of ballet. He finally relented and now goes to about 1/3 of the ballets I attend. Most of them he enjoys, but he says, "If I never see another Romeo and Juliet it'll be too soon". Unfortunately R&J is one of my favorite ballets....by anyone. Giannina
  6. Welome to Ballet Talk, Mike. And welcome to the world of ballet. This is the perfect place to learn about ballet; the board is full of information. We hope you manage to see of lot of ballet during the winter. For many the matter of choosing which ballet to see is settled by seeing all of them! We also hope you'll share in our discussions, and let us know what ballets you see and what you think of them. Giannina
  7. I was somewhat underwhelmed by the interpretation throughout the performance, but then again it was an opportunity to see POB and that in itself is worth the price of admission. But the costumes were definite losers; what WERE they thinking? Giannina
  8. Hubby and I will be in London Jan. 11 to Jan. 21, 2007. Giannina

  10. There are identical twins Jiri and Otto Bubenicek who danced with Hamburg Ballet; don't know if both are still there. Giannina
  11. Am I the only one who feels she suddenly has to re-learn English idioms? Giannina
  12. Not a creepy ballet, but the music for Romeo and Juliet is creepy. Listen to it (mostly afterAct I); there's gloom and doom everywhere. It actually gives me the willies (aaagh, pun). Giannina

  15. I'm going to be in St. Petersburg in Sept. for a Uniworld river cuirse. In Sept., when the major ballet companies are not performing, you get Peterhof Ballet company for your performing ballet experience. Does anyone have any information on this company (Natalia?!)? Giannina
  16. Canbelto: I, too, would be interesting in a Guillem/Giselle. Is there one commercially available? I haven't seen one but would love to see it. Giannina

  21. richard53dog, I have a hunch Onegin is not easily available; I bought mine quite a while ago. Here's what I have; Put out by Home Vision only on VHS tape: "Onegin". On the cover is printed "THE WORLD OF DANCE #17", "RM Arts presents The National Ballet of Canada in John Cranko's production of Tchaikovsky's 'Onegin'". On the back: "Licensed worldwide by NVC ARTS INTERNATIONAL" The copyright is 1986. There's a toll free phone number for World Vision: 800 262 8600. Giannina
