  1. The Mikhailovsky's Spartacus has a tiger. (Perhaps not on tour, don't know about that)
  2. I came upon this thread again by accident, but as I'm home and have the book here right now, I might as well reply. The book is called "The Bolshoi Theatre" (subtitle: History - Opera - Ballet) and was published in 1987 (Planeta Publishers - they also brought out the previous book in two parts). It contains beautiful photos from opera and ballet productions of that time.
  3. I received my booklet for this season of the Dutch National Ballet, and on the page with the performance dates 3 Don Q performances were marked with a *. Beneath it said that these days not all seats will be available because of DVD recording! Perhaps 3minuteswest can tell us more? I also wonder who will dance the leads on this DVD..
  4. I'm very glad to see Yulia Makhalina in the list, and the rest looks good too, especially Kondaurova
  5. The fact that she decided not to take any important documents with her does seem to say she's aware of these kind of things happening - whether it's a habit from home in Moscow or because she thinks NY is dangerous..
  6. There are some lovely suggestions already, but my personal favourites are the waltz from the 1st act of Raymonda, and the one at the very end of the Nutcracker (so not the waltz of the flowers).
  7. I've been lucky enough to be taken to the ballet as a child. I don't remember my first Giselle, just the general scenery and that she wore a yellow dress in act I! I don't remember anything from act II, might have fallen asleep.
  8. But it mostly featured videos of DVD's that are commercially available.. Still, too bad it's gone.
  9. Osipova has danced both at the Bolshoi. Nikiya only fairly recently, I believe, Gamzatti was in her repertoire much earlier. edit: oops, I was posting at the same time as aurora
  10. In Grigorovich's Spartacus the male lead lifts Phrygia only once or twice in the first act. When I saw it two years ago, some makeup from his face (I think), accidentally found its way to her tights during this lift. The spot bothered me during the whole ballet.. That's the downside of sitting near the stage, I suppose, It's hard to miss the imperfections.
  11. Wow. I just read Vaganova's book this week, and somewhere in the notes or so it spoke about this film, and I thought of what an amazing thing it must be to see, but that it must be hard to find; and voilà, there it is!
  12. This article was posted in yesterday's links. This is in fact the very first I hear about something being broadcasted in 3D, and I understand it will even be live! I saw some of the recent 3D movies, and after wearing the glasses for about half an hour they started really irritating me (they were quite heavy!). Plus I didn't really care about the 3D-ness. I can imagine it makes a movie more spectacular, but for a broadcast of dancing on a stage I don't really see how this would make things better. What do you think about this? Will it make the experience of watching ballet on a screen better? I can even really enjoy a very grainy image, if the dancing is excellent
  13. On the Bolshoi's website, a premiere of "Romeo & Juliet" is announced on the 21st April. I assume this means a new production of the ballet for the company, but does anyone know what version, whose choreography?
  14. I just came across this on Youtube, you can find the rest of the performance on the user's channel: The channel is dedicated to Yuliana Malkhasyants (a character dancer of the Bolshoi ballet), and it has a special performance of many different character dances. And I see now, some ice skating as well. I don't know much about character dance, I just know I enjoy the Russians most in it, and I certainly enjoyed watching these videos.
  15. Béjarts year of death is printed on the back of the card, so it can't be very old..
  16. I don't think there are any specific rules about the people they put on stamps here. There are a number "limited edition" series of stamps every year to celebrate certain events, .. So I'd think this would be an example of that. But I would like to note I know next to nothing about stamps, so I'm absolutely not sure.
  17. I came across this on Youtube; it seems to be filmed quite a long time ago, and it is wonderful.
  18. I have only seen the 2nd act when it was broadcast on tv, and I thought it a very fine version of the ballet. It's about half a year ago so I don't remember much of the interpretation etc, but after seeing it I felt I would like to see it again - a feeling I didn't have with some other filmed Giselles.
  19. Mikhail Lobukhin is listed on the Bolshoi's website now as a principal. He hasn't disappeared (yet) from the Mariinsky's site though.
  20. There is also a second book like this, with some other ballets in it. I have it at home (which is not where I am now), I can look up the title if you wish. It is from the 80's, don't know the exact year.
  21. I believe, when I saw Don Quixote at the Bolshoi last year they put the daggers with the handle on the ground, so the blade was pointing upward, but I'm not 100% sure of this..
  22. I saw a part of it; wanted to tape it first but was too late for that.. I think I even saw it appear on youtube a few days ago, I'll look it up. There, Petrouchka Le Spectre de la Rose Le Tricorne part I Le Tricorne part II L'après-midi d'un faune
  23. I came across this by accident today, on russianballetvideos.com, at the bottom of the page:
  24. I would love to see Evgenia Obraztsova in Vainonen's Nutcracker.. For those attending the performance I hope the casting does not change
