Not to overlook PA Ballet - they continue to have an active Balanchine rep, with 5 (2 full lengths and 3 one acts) programmed for next season. Many of their dancers are SAB trained and they've taken 7 new SAB trained dancers in just the last 3 years. Interesting as well to note, that SFB has just offered contracts to two SAB trained dancers for next season.

cobweb, I'm a fan of his as well and would go if I were in nyc. I think it's his first "story ballet" principal role so I'm thinking it's going to be special.

oh my gosh - did anyone see POB's "Children of Paradise" today? I was transported to Paris for 3 hours. Jose Martinez's choreography was fabulous/genius - oh the gorgeous etoiles. During intermission was "street theatre" - live pas of "Othello" by two etoiles on the marble staircase inside the Palais Garnier accompanied by a solo violin and surrounded by the delighted crowd with their cameras and video/phones. thank you POB and Ballet in Cinema - bringing these amazing artists to local cinemas.

Thanks for the comments about Sarabia's "debut" with ABT last night - he is a very funny guy too. LOVED his Drosselmeyer in MCB's Balanchine Nutcracker. Happen to know his as well, and wanted to add that he's at least 5'8" (to my eye) - will take a better look too the next time I see him.

yes - agree - very hard ballet. I do see freedom of movement from Hallberg but not from his partner. He is a principal and she is in the corps - that is my point - that there is (to my eye and to their AD's eye i.e. their status) a qualitative difference in their work and performance quality. But this is how younger corps dancers grow - by having opportunities like this. For me, this ballet is so special - I'd prefer Uliana Lopatkina! edit: atm - just saw your reply - sorry to duplicate! :-)

Is it just me who thinks that, in these videos, David Hallberg is the most beautiful person on stage? I realize he is beyond compare in so many ways, but shouldn't a company like ABT should be able to pair him with a female who at least equals his beauty? Hoping I don't offend anyone.

and not to forget the tall Kyra Nichols who danced Dewdrop in the 1993 NYCB Balanchine Nutcracker movie! Former NYCB dancers speak of her incredible ability to dance "short girl" roles.

I also saw Bugaku at the Saturday matinee at the Broward Center. Jennifer Kronenberg and Carlos Guerra gave a deep and detailed telling of this complicated/fragile enigma of a ballet. I want to say "raw" but not - honest seems to simple a word. They lived through each moment of it and left me without words to describe it to friends. If any BTers have a chance to see it this weekend, I hope you'll take the opportunity.

What a treat! It was a once in a lifetime opportunity to see these artists in a very small theatre. All I could think at the end was "thank you, thank you, thank you". Julie's feet are so expressive - hard to believe unless you actually see them close up. She's expressive in every inch of her being. Marcelo is gorgeous and brilliant - his performance technically a wonder as well as his humanity/acting. Thank you. What a honor to be there.
