I don't remember that so many soloists and corp members dancing on the opening night gala. maybe , it's a good omen for these dancers.

Postlewaite screamed talent in the SAB workshop performances I saw him in, despite not being featured in one of the principal roles. (He was a side boy in "Divertimento No. 15. I still remember. He was that good. I really regret not having been able to watch that particular talent bloom.) It's hard to imagine that he'd be carrying baskets of grapes for long, even at ABT, but who knows. Why was he not hired by NYCB ? Was it his choice to go to PNB?

Is that completely true, though? Murphy was listed but did she even dance?? Regardless, the point I was trying to make was that ABT is now two companies: the core company that tours and the dance collective comprised of wandering, itinerant stars who coalesce in New York every Spring and early Summer. The former is looking thin at the top, especially among the male principals. Gomes, Hallberg and Stearns are the workhorses who are holding it together but, again, if one or more of them goes down (knock on wood), the company's touring schedule is going to be in a world of hurt. C Stearns will be replaced by R Bolle in Giselle this weekend in Virginia, reportedly due to Cory's injury( see todays Link). I hope he recovers well before the Met season .

I just teared up at the wonderfulness of this suggestion...can we get together and pen a letter to Kevin or something?! While I'm sure he's working to solve the problem...I think he needs some inspiration/suggestions, and what better way then to get it from the people who will be watching that dancers I know what you mean...some are great dancers, but others are star dancers... I think, the problem why the talented male corp and soloists are not progressing as much as expected is the absence of a good male coach. The ladies have Irina and others but the males don't have one. They should have JM Carreno as a coach,ballet master .

I thought Alexandre H. did very well in the couple of principal roles(Nutcracker and Bright Stream) i saw him danced but he has not been given a major classical role to do(Solor? Siegfred?) Gray D. has the height,looks, technique and stamina.OC friends has reported that he did several performances of Thirteen Diversions(covering for injuries) sensationally. Aaron S. is a terrific dancer but is more of a Herman Cornejo-type .I have not seen Thomas F. in a major role but has the height and appearance. I just noted in ABT website that A Hammoudi is cast as Romeo with Hee Seo in the June 20 matinee of R and J. Mr KM must have been following BA ongoing discussions.

Z Konvalina, also of ENB, would do well in the ABT repertoire.

There is a precedent for this. I don't think William Carter or Terry Orr ever danced a prince role between the two of them, but their talent and contributions were considered worthy of principle status. Correct me if i'm wrong, but Marcos Paredes was also a principal although he did mostly character roles.

the bleeding of the male principals seems unstoppable... ABT should give more chances to their soloists and corp members to develop.

She also did one Don Q when Basilio (A Dowell ?) was not able to complete the PDD and she pulled P Fonseca ( who was in the background) to complete the coda.

Yoko Ichino replaced her in 2 Don Q's, one w/ R Nureyev and the other w/ Anthony Dowell. Yoko did very well but i always wanted to see Gelsey as Kitri and was very disappointed with her cancellations.

the Firebird casting(for OCPAC premiere) is now in the ABT website.Marcelo and David is in the 1st cast. I guess, David will be be the evil Kotchei(sp ?).interesting.

Ashton also choreographed a piece de occasion for Margot Fonteyn's farewell gala(?) to Elgar (can't think of the title) .This music was used very effectively in the TV series "Downton Abbey"( in the fundraising concert scene).

Unfortunately, prayers are only remembered when one is at need of something.

I was at the Dec 22 evening performance. The main floor was almost full( except for the side seats) of warmly appreciative adults and well-behaved children. The drive to BAM from Bergen County,NJ was ,surprisingly, not as bad as i thought. Except for the last-minute-shopping -traffic in the Paramus area, it was an easy drive to Brooklyn. Parking was easy and cheap (compared to LC). After the performance, it took me 45 minutes to get home( and i'm not a fast driver). I loved this Nutcracker. For once, we were not bored by the 1st act.The children danced and acted very well. The snow scene was very well choreographed and danced by the corps.I thought it would even look better in a bigger stage.We enjoyed the 2nd act with different variations than usual. Yuriko and Alexandre danced the PDD very beautifully as well as the rest of the cast esp A Scott,S Brandt and J Gorak. I would not mind seeing this again next year at the BAM.
