  1. Likewise here and praying for everyone's safety.
  2. I agree with California, I learned my lesson a few years ago with having a subscription, picked all my shows and seats but when the week of show came up I saw all the seats that were "sold" opened up, what a pain it was to have to go to the theatre and exchange them. I take my chances now and wait, it seems the past two years I have had luck getting good seats the week before each show, but then again you do take chances of them selling out. The create your own idea is a good start but they do need to do better. I have a feeling many of the seats are blocked for whatever reason, then they are opened up last minute.
  3. I can only speak for myself in this case, as I am sure there is no set "standard of presenting themselves" outside of work and it is all very subjective. That is why I mentioned it was a personal issue. The words "ladies and gentlemen" comes to my mind, but I am old fashioned and I guess many on BA may not agree. As a grandmother I do hope that my grandchild whom enjoys the beauty and elegance of this artform would see likewise of these dancers outside of their workplace, especially in the world of social media. These dancers are admired by many impressionable age aspiring dancers and audience, they are public figures and the world of social media can work both ways.
  4. Thank you fondoffouettes So nice to see Lane is recognized, this is relieve to watch vs the disturbing video (posted upthread of another who's name I shall not mention, as she is recent soloist and muched loved by many on BA). This is a personal issue that I hold a high standard for ballerinas, and have trouble for my grand daughter to aspire to anyone other than those whom present themselves as ballerinas at work or not, especially on social media. Lane shows class in both IMO
  5. Totally agree with you vipa and in your camp, Sarah was the one who came out in roses for me in Spectra, no pun intended . As I have said before we all have our favorites and there is the saying that there are two sides to every coin, so I guess there are still a few of us on the other side.
  6. Indeed he did till his death and ahh the Turning Point
  7. I saw this annoucement somewhere myself and wish they would broadcast here as well, if anyone in BA attends please post review as I love their partnership. Totally agree with DeCoster and wish KM would give Lane more chances too...before she turns 40 or me becoming too old to get to the theatre. Much prefer Lane to the all hype Copeland as Juliet myself.
  8. I thought Cornejo with Lane was a perfect match in Spectra myself and look forward to them together in Spring. Kochekova is not a favorite but then again this is a matter of preference and as someone else mentioned somewhere in this thread...we all have our favorites and that is why I guess we are known as fans.
  9. Totally agree with ABT Fan about too many bodies on stage, and this leads me to the last show yesterday with Ratmansky's Piano Concerto. I am not sure if anyone on BA will agree but this was wonderful to watch, just the right amount of "bodies" I thought it gave everyone a chance to see the individuals and couples even at a far distance. Shevchenko, Brandt, Royal and Shayer did a wonderful job as the leads, and the corps was well presented with the ladies lead in by Waski (whom I caught this season with a few soloist roles and nice partnering work with Baca in After Effects I might add), also had a small solo with Royal and looked beautiful with both being the same body type, always nice to see long and lean dancers IMO. The program began with After You and ended with Brahms but I much prefer Ratmansky in this case and seems the audience did too. Side note: It was wonderful to see a member of the Jackie O family at the show!! Lee Radziwill surprised me and great to see her looking so well!
  10. Not sure if anyone else on BA saw these but just read both and nice to see that Mr. Gomes, one of my favorite principals, has a good future in choreography, and have to agree with both about his inclusiveness of the company colleagues: <http://www.nytimes.com/2015/10/30/arts/dance/review-with-aftereffect-marcelo-gomes-debuts-as-a-choreographer.html?_r=0> <http://dancetabs.com/2015/10/american-ballet-theatre-aftereffect-company-b-the-green-table-new-york/>
  11. Have not seen any online reviews either but was lucky enough to catch this show even in the down pour, thought it was well worth the walk in the rain. I was actually very impressed with the work, however, it seems the lead female role danced by Copeland was far less then the soloist women. If not mistaken, the lead male danced by Whiteside and the soloist couples danced the most overall, and they did beautifully with synchronicity: Brandt/Sebastian, Hamrick/Royal, Paris/Scott, Schevcheko/Zhang, Teuscher/Hoven, Waski/Baca (IMO standout partnering), K. Williams/Stewart, S. Williams/Zhurbin did the most dancing. Have to say I enjoyed it very much and wish I had tickets to see it again Friday night. Best part of all was seeing Francoise Gilot on stage at the bow! Historical indeed as the back drop was beautiful! <http://www.nytimes.com/2015/10/28/arts/dance/teaming-up-to-pair-art-and-ballet-in-american-ballet-theaters-aftereffect.html?_r=0>

Glad to have caught The Green Table too! Thought Zhurbin did an excellent job as Death as did the cast for the evening. The pistols going off took me off my seat as I didn't expect either time. I guess I didn't miss the GOP debate after all. All in all a wonderful night to stay out of the rain with some wonderful dancing

  12. I guess we do have our favorites as mimsyb said, favorite ballets, favorite choreograpy and favorite dancers, and for this I have to add that Lane did a splendid job as the Young Girl in Le Spectre de la Rose, her fluidity in her dancing has always been a favorite and hope to see more of her in the season or spring, and let me not forget to mention the Rose danced ever so wonderfully by Cornejo. I am just sad to not be able to see her for The Nutcracker with my grand daughter here. As for Teuscher, another favorite as wish I was able to catch her last week but was pleased to see Valse lead by Seo and Whiteside, IMO I thought the four corps members did sparkle as well and attacked every step with exuberance and precision. I do hope they bring this back again.
  13. I am fully aware of this mimsyb and my apologies as it is by no means to insult Mr. Taylor's work, and you are indeed correct that it is a matter of preference in this case, I was merely stating that I would much prefer live orchestra performances. My grand daughter thought it was fun and entertaining so that was nice for her to see another side of ballet without pointe shoes. I guess I am a Mr. B and Twyla fan myself
  14. Caught last evening's show with my grand daughter and just want to add that, even at my age, I think I can do without Company B again. I believe the show was sold out, many Misty fans. Brandt did replace Bond in Company B and delivered even at such last minute, I wonder what happened, nonetheless, paying the ticket prices I did, I would much prefer live orchestra than radio recordings, and I think that is more dated feeling than Spectre as mimsyb mentioned. Cornejo and Lane delivered beautifully as always and look forward to their future partnering in SB. Valse was indeed refreshing and crisp, well done to the cast that included DeGrofft, Hamrick, Post and Waski. Waski, I believe younger corps of the four, surprised us with a strong soloist performance right after intermission in Brahms-Haydn Variations, both soloist couples did wonderfully to deiliver an excellent half of Saturday evening. Hope they bring Valse back again soon!
  15. This is unfortunate to hear but as I recall the spring gala had its issues as well, seems like galas have been issues of late for ABT. Wonder how the program or casting was decided? Board? Insteresting to hear about the new Morris piece, I, for one, am not much of a fashion afficionado, but from just seeing recent posts of the costumes by Issac Mizrahi ,I get the impression of a return for the Greecian look? Not too flattering for the dancers since I would expect to see costumes that would compliment their amazing physique in mordern pieces?
  16. Actually after seeing this update on ABT Facebook, I am not too sure if I would bother staying up to catch this at all Although my grandchild is a girl, I do know about all the "bullying" towards boys in ballet and this seems to me will add to the issues. Even though this is done as a comedic set, this only adds fuel to the fire and a bit self serving on Misty's part. IMO this would have been far better served for the ballet world to have Kimmel try to partner her as a true "male" ballerina and not make a mockery of these athletes. I do wonder what Ethan is thinking if he did do the choreography. <https://www.facebook.com/JimmyKimmelLive/photos/a.288188438373.143312.195974498373/10153661925288374/?type=3&theater>
  17. Hope I can stay awake till then, but I am sure they will have it up the next day in case. Thanks for this info! Wonder whom they will have there too and excited to see a Stiefel choreography, is this a sign that he is returning to do more for the Company?
  18. Looks like the company has arrived per Murphy's twitter, would love to hear of any thoughts from any BA member attending, a small preview to the fall season. A bit more interesting to me was her post about a launch of a new video from Whiteside coming out I guess today, here is Murphy's post and where it led me to, wonder if I should consider this ballet? Or burlesque? Or another Miley Cyrus video? Can be that I am old fashioned, but then again I put my dancers in a higher standard and IMO, this is not something I can see my Vishneva or Herrara in or for that matter Murphy herself would do, Maybe I am wrong...so I will let BA members be the judge Murphy post: 2 days until ABT performs at Bard! & also only 2 days until the release of @jbdubsmusic #dance video… https://instagram.com/p/8i05uxnVSp/ And saw this within: <https://instagram.com/p/8Q6RUjNzHu/?taken-by=jbdubsmusic>
  19. I do agree and actually since it has been this long I just assumed they are already married since I recall the engagement announcement!
  20. Thanks for sharing abatt Love Corella and wish him all the best. Saw him at the farewells this spring spring and wished he would return as a guest... like Ferri :D , although I wonder if he will invite a few to join him now ... hummm!?
  21. I do agree as mentioned in another thread about the most recently retired three, it would be great to see all of them become coaches. It looks like Kent is back as one with the latest ABT announcement, and Reyes was showing signs over the summer involved as such as well with her staging of Giselle. I am seeing both sides to this coin about Ferri, she is definitely one of the best and most likely will be great in this again, and I am sure she will bring in the ticket sales. Then again, this is taking the opportunity from another within the company, with this said, I do agree with a few BA comments that at least she is not another import. I just wish ABT will move forward to nurturing those who have potential instead being notalgic. I think I will really have to imagine hard to get over the idea she is not the teenager that this was meant to be. Not sure if I want to ruin my great memories yet.
  22. Well if that happens most likely Kent will be there since she is still quite connected with the company I do agree with a few other comments on this feed that it might be time to move on...to more new faces and opportunities for others to step into this role.
  23. I thought likewise abatt I actually thought she was in her late 40s, if this is the case then wouldn't it be wise to bring back Kent or Reyes who are younger? Maybe not Kent for height, but surely Reyes since I am sure she is capable. Also, I do wonder if this will attract the younger set of audiences. Then again, if this is for a one night and tickets sell out, this may just help with the season, plus what the possible post performance gala you mentioned might do too! Ferri saves the day/season? Agree with Dancerboy90210 too that at least less imports.
  24. Likewise thinking the same, and as much as I am elated to see this, I am wondering if this has anything to do with drumming up ticket sales now.
  25. No Stella either, I am sure she is more than capable?!
