  1. This was discussed in another ABT feed about the use of social media, but think this is more general topic. Looks like even Lincoln Center is promoting dancers with social media: http://www.lincolncenter.org/article/10-dancers-you-should-follow-on-instagram Back in the day without all this technology it was hard to "get the word out", so I guess good or bad with regards to the likes of Misty, it got her word out. I am surprised to not see her name though in this article.
  2. This was posted on the wrong feed in error and I can't delete, my apologies to those who may read this This was discussed in another ABT feed about the use of social media, but think this is more general topic. 3. Can't wait and know where I will be those days wonderful chance to see so many companies within two days without have to travel all over the world
  4. After some time off with the family and my grandkids, I do so agree with your comment volcanohunter, but glad to say my grand-daughter at least is watching her ballet videos online, so even if she is not looking up at least she is appreciating ballet, guess that is better than nothing On this note, she showed me a performance I missed in CT, again, it seems Reyes maybe considering directing or staging? Plus looks like she has chosen her protégés to work with! From the ABT corps no less, Paulina Waski and Cameron McCune? This shows beautiful technique, musicality and mime of these two whom we have seen little of at ABT, but hope to see more in the seasons to come or ... since Kent is back too .... perhaps Reyes back at ABT in some form so we don't have to miss her ... AD or coach ... wishful thinking on my part
  5. All the comments on BA thus far have been so interesting to read, and I see the pros and cons of all sides. Personally, I am of an age before all this tweets and everything, yet I see my grand children and their friends with heads down 90% of the time, unfortunately, we have to go with the times good or bad. IMO as long as the posts are relevant to the art form then it is a way to get to the interest of the new generation. Perhaps this helps get them to notice ballet a bit more but I may be wrong. On the other hand, IMO, I am not sure of posting a dancer's dog or anything that is not related to the particular artform does much for me
  6. Thank you for sharing this volcanohunter, loved reading it and this quote really says it all too! I am glad to hear that Herrara is sharing her skills with the next generation and I am sure whomever she ends up teaching will hear about this quote in the interview: ".... Now, if someone makes it you don’t know whether it’s because they really have talent or because the media helped get them there. I don’t want my career to be tarnished by that sort of thing." A very interesting observation in her part, hummm ... wonder whom she is talking about! I can think of a few. Based on what she said, I am feeling a bit guilty myself being on a blog. I think I will just go now and enjoy reading a book instead.
  7. Love Tharp and agree more of her work for this special year as well, glad to see her celebration at Kennedy Center this November : <http://www.kennedy-center.org/calendar/event/DQDSB>
  8. I would love to toss my hat in for Xiomara Reyes if I may A dear friend who attended the gala in Barcelona sent me this link, and looks like Reyes is headed in that direction of becoming an AD somewhere, so wouldn't it be great if we get her back here? <http://www.ibstage.com/index.php/faculty>
  9. I just read this on BBC as well and such a tragedy and confirms my believe that speeding, texting while driving and too much distracted driving these days: <http://www.bbc.com/news/uk-politics-33843332> My deepest sympathy to his family, so sad for this young and talented dancer and I hope that driver pays somehow, either jail time or something, but I guess I won't bring Jonathan back to his loved ones.
  10. I would add the moderns too as I am sure she is deserving of all
  11. Just read my latest Dance Informa and thought to share, but seems this may be similar to honorable mention since it is not listed here? : The 2015 Dance Awards winners include: Lani Dickinson (Dominican University of California), receiving a dance scholarship; Ailey II’s Courtney Spears (a senior in the Ailey/Fordham BFA Program), receiving a dance scholarship; Babatunji Johnson (Alonzo King's LINES Ballet), receiving a dance fellowship/the Chris Hellman Dance Award; Emilie Leriche (Hubbard Street Dance Chicago), receiving a dance fellowship; Harper Watters (Houston Ballet), receiving a dance fellowship; and Ching Ching Wong (Northwest Dance Project), receiving a dance fellowship. <http://danceinforma.us/articles/pgfusa-announces-2015-awards/>
  12. Indeed a win win and nice thing, hope many dancers get this privilege as I am sure their salaries connect compare to other types of athletes.
  13. I am sure it helps financially to have royalties from her books and guest appearances to support this, as I don't believe a dancer's salary would do likewise. Unfortunately for many dancers, salaries are most likely much lower than many football players or other types of athletes, to support just the day to day living especially in NYC.
  14. Completely agree about Stella So overdue and glad this finally happened for her before it is too late, like many others who have come and gone before her. Most deserving IMO for this group of promotions.
  15. Speaking of seasoned corps, anyone know whatever happened to Nicole Graniero? She has a website but it still says ABT? She had quite a lengthy repertorie and hope she hasn't given up all together.
  16. Would make sense I would assume since Kent's husband is still the associate AD. Guess I can't be surprised about Paloma especially the exit show she was given. I would love to see Ximomara return in some form as well, these 3 will be missed at least by me and my friends and family.
  17. I supposed with all these changes it will be an interesting fall season indeed, this may be on the wrong thread but curious if anyone knows of a Moore replacement? Management changes? I would love to see Reyes, Herrera and Kent return as either coaches or AD...wishful thinking

    Xiomara Reyes

binghamPosted 29 July 2015 - 10:20 AM ABT corps member, Paulina Waski ( with Cameron Mccune another corp member) danced Giselle for the first time in a " Studio to Stage" production at the Hartt school in Conn. This was staged and coached by Xiomara Reyes and Rinat Imaev. There are clips in Paulina's Facebook which showed a very promising debut. Xiomara did very well in staging and coaching .She should be added to the coaches/teachers at ABT On a thread bingham started for dancer, Paulina Waski, seems to me Xiomara might be pursuing a director's role? Just wishful thinking ... the next AD for the company? I will miss her on the Met stage so it would be nice to see her direct there.
  19. Indeed sandik and definitely know Redetsky's narrative will be far less soapy but hopefully more insightful, can't wait to get my hands on his story.
  20. I agree that any tell-all would be a detriment to his wife's career, as much as many of us await one of these types of books about a certain company, feeling a bit naughty myself Great Hollywood stuff, not a Black Swan type but a Peyton Place type drama, if anyone recalls that series so very long ago.
  21. Much appreciate the reminder fondoffouettes, sorry to have missed that bit from the thread Wishing him full recovery soon! I know many of us feel the same.
  22. Where is Hallberg in all this or should we expect he is going to be out of the fall season?

    Paulina Waski

Thank you for sharing this bingham and quite timely as I just heard from my dear friend just this week who actually attended one of the performances with her grand daughters, they were thrilled with the performance, they said it was a standing ovation for Waski and McCune. They mentioned many in the audience were in tears too, so I am sad I missed this but hope, as you mentioned, that Xiomara and Rinat would be coaching more for us to perhaps see this at the Met one day. After the NY Times review and this post from Natalia I do hope we will get to see more of Waski in the seasons to come and perhaps alongside McCune. And wishful thinking but consider Xiomara Reyes as the next AD? Especially since Natalia Posted 11 June 2015 - 11:51 AM Among the newest corps members, I've really admired seeing beautiful Paulina Waski in her solo/demi solo moments (Fairy Candide yesterday matinee & Sapphire on May 29). I also saw this post on Twitter than shows Waski's hops on pointe from the show? Would love this at the Met ... jorge furtado leite ‏@jlfleite Jul 28 #everydayisartday @paulinawaski ・・・ Hops abtofficial #Giselle… https://instagram.com/p/5siSuRvflu/?taken-by=powi295
  24. I don't believe you missed any further announcements, and do see these on each site, seems the Bard is a preview for the Fall Season, would be interested to read the Bard performances to get an idea of what to expect in the fall. Enjoy the rest of summer! Off to my upstate heat hideaway, if there is such a thing... and hope to catch Reyes at the Hartt School Giselle shows, looking forward to her directing skills, perhaps she would be a great next AD to add to your list!?

    Simone Messmer

So very happy for her as well, always loved her at ABT and thought it was a great loss for us New Yorkers.
