  2. Saratoga Performing Arts Center made the following announcement today: Saratoga Performing Arts Center and New York City Ballet Announce Two-Week Season in 2015 Saratoga Springs, NY The Board of Directors of Saratoga Performing Arts Center (SPAC) has announced that New York City Ballet's annual summer season at SPAC will return to two weeks in 2015. One of the world's foremost ballet companies, NYCB has had a residency at SPAC since the venue's opening season in 1966. Officials from both organizations expressed pride in the historic partnership and enthusiasm for a longer season. "New York City Ballet has been a treasured presence on our stage every summer since SPAC's opening in 1966," said Marcia J. White, SPAC's President and Executive Director. "The partnership has given rise to an extraordinary dance tradition here in the Capital Region and enriched the lives of countless people who were first introduced to New York City Ballet here at SPAC. Against this backdrop, we are proud and excited to share the news that the company's 2015 season will expand to two weeks." White noted that the expenses associated with the residency mean that fundraising and community support will remain key factors going forward. Yet, efficiencies implemented over the past two years have put both organizations in a stronger position. "My gratitude goes out to New York City Ballet's Executive Director Katherine Brown and the Company's Board of Directors for working with us towards this goal," said White. "Just as George Balanchine and Lincoln Kirstein envisioned, the impact of this five-decade partnership has been profound for both of our organizations and the audiences we serve. As we move ever closer to our 50th Anniversary celebration in 2016, the magnitude of their achievements stands out along with a realization that what they started all those years ago needs our continuing support today." In commenting on the agreement Brown said, "as the only dance company in the world with a permanent summer home, the New York City Ballet is extraordinarily proud of its long relationship with SPAC, and we are very grateful to Marcia White and the SPAC leadership for their commitment to this residency and for making it possible for NYCB to return to a longer season in 2015." White extended special thanks to NYCB's Ballet Master in Chief Peter Martins for championing the Saratoga residency, and for upholding the Company's artistic standards. She noted that his efforts have given SPAC audiences a "front row seat to unparalleled excellence." "The New York City Ballet treasures its historic partnership with SPAC, and we are thrilled to restore our residency to two weeks for the 2015 season," said Martins. "The Company has spent nearly 50 years at SPAC, building a loyal audience in the Capital Region, and we are very grateful for their support."

  4. I would be thrilled if they do revive it.Herman(w/ S Lane) would be perfect as Colas but i wonder if Marcelo would be too mature/tall to play Colas. I think ABT borrowed the production from National Ballet of Canada, and for the last few years the NBOC Fille costumes had been in a dire state of repair. The costumes were mostly rebuilt for the NBOC's last outing with Fille a couple of years ago and doubtless they are ready to be rented out again.
  5. The circular leaping around the stage is not a menage ("household"), it's a manège, pronounced man EZH, originally a horseriding term (and still is in dressage I believe). It comes from an Italian word meaning "to handle".
  6. October 3, 4, 5 at the Roosevelt U Auditorium
  7. Press release from NBOC June 8, 2014 Karen Kain, Artistic Director of The National Ballet of Canada, today announced that the 2014/15 roster will include three new Principal Dancers. McGee Maddox has been promoted to Principal Dancer and Svetlana Lunkina and Evan McKie will be joining the company as Principal Dancers.
  8. I use Incognito Mode in Google Chrome. No need to clear caches or masquerade as a Parisian (best I can do is Belgian). Popped up and started streaming immediately. Thanks for the tip! For some reason Palais de Cristal is not geo-blocked but Daphnis is. I will try your workaround.
  9. Looks like only Don Q in Chicago and Washington now, according to the Auditorium Theatre and Kennedy Center websites. Does anyone know if the triple bill might still be on for NY? The Lincoln Center website is, typically, unhelpful. It doesn't even mention the Royal Ballet!
  10. Apparently this is being shown in movie theatres in England. Does anyone have any info about possible screenings in Canada and the US? I have googled unsuccessfully.
  11. I loved the new Peck piece. Such a rare pleasure to see a new creation where 1) there is bright lighting so you can actually see the dancers dancing instead of peering at them through Stygian gloom. 2) the dancers look happy to be alive rather than afflicted by existential angst 3) they move expansively. I agree about Mearns in Walpurgisnacht. Breathtaking.
  12. Hello Carrie, nice to hear all about you.
  13. I was there and was gobsmacked by this as well. Furthermore, she starts into it from a soutenu, so she has to stop her rotational motion before she can do the balance.
  14. does anyone have any idea where in Canada? The Ardani website only has TBA. Fall is not that far away...
  15. I agree with Lidewij about the orchestration of Paquita (by John Lanchbery); it was tasteless verging on vulgar. Minkus wasn't a genius, but he should have been left alone in my opinion. Tchai Pas was indeed brilliant, one of the best I've seen.
  16. here's a highlight reel from the program: and a lovely montage of Lezhnina in various roles, which was shown at the performance:
  17. I am going to the Sunday night event. Can't do the gala because at ABT's Coppelia that night.

  19. great. I'm a not-so-young lady (50s) with short hair. I will be wearing either a very conspicuous dress with broad horizontal white and navy stripes or a bright turquoise dress.
  20. how about in front of the place selling DVDs and ballet trinkets on the "Zaal" level.
