  1. does anyone know of an easy way to find which PBS stations a certain program is airing on? I find the PBS website incredibly cumbersome, and it's especially difficult for us Canadians (many of whom watch PBS and whose donations PBS is most happy to accept) because, to find a station to check its listing you have to fill in a zip code. The stations we get in Toronto are: Buffalo, Boston, and Seattle. How am I supposed to know a Seattle zip code? Why can't you just click on the name of the program and have the website spit out the list of stations it's airing on? grr.
  2. "nationally" never seems to include the PBS stations to which I have access...
  3. As luck would have it, I am going to be at this performance with my visiting group of balletomanes. It would be great to meet you at the intermission.
  4. I was at this performance last night and really liked the costumes. They were very glittery! The green ones looked a little like a tinsel-bedecked Christmas tree, but the midnight blue ones were stunning. A Ballet Met dancer was in attendance and reported that almost 50% of the steps were different. It's not as if I have Symphony in C engraved on my brain, but I certainly did notice some differences to what I am used to.
  5. shame about the Concerto pas de deux. it's very beautiful
  6. Ballet San Jose has been invited to tour with Natalia Osipova and Ivan Vasiliev. Osipova and Vasiliev will make their debuts in Roland Petit's Carmen with Ballet San Jose, with the remainder of the program made up of the pair performing pas de deux. Performances will start July 25-27 at Segerstrom Center for the Arts in Costa Mesa, then continue at the Stanislavsky Theatre in Moscow July 31 and Aug. 1-3. The journey will wrap Aug. 6-9 at the London Coliseum in England. For more information, visit balletsj.org or ardani.com.
  7. I just stumbled across these on YouTube: La Chatte reconstruction of one of the first ballet by Balanchine done by Millicent Hodson and Kenneth Archer Corpo di ballo Teatro dell'Opera di Roma Sergei Lifar role Vito Mazzeo Principal Dancer Het Nationale Ballet
  8. Does anyone have the actual dates for the 2014-15 performances? They're not posted on the website.
  9. I saw the Chappell designs, gates and all, in a Noriko Kobayashi production in Tokyo about five years ago, so they do exist in Japan at least (though I recognize that is somewhat impractical for N American companies should they wish to borrow them).
  10. The version POB is dancing this May has new (coloured) costumes designed by Christian Lacroix
  11. Birdsall, let's meet at the intermission. I will be wearing a dark red satin dress with a wrap around sash and a flower-shaped brooch.
  12. British choreographer David Dawson's contemporary take on a classic (created for Dresden SemperOper ballet). What do you think?
  13. Yes, that was a great article. The trouble people go to, to preserve 'tradition' - right down to the donkey poops. ;) Maybe NYCB needs an international guest star in the person (?)of Peregrine, the Shetland pony who has been starring in the Royal Ballet's and Birmingham Royal Ballet's Fille mal Gardees for the last 23 years or so, I believe.
  14. If the CBC interviewer is the same one that appeared in the clips in the Tanaquil Le Clercq film, he is... René Lévesque, more famous as being the leader of the Quebec separatist movement and premier of Quebec. (he was a journalist before he went into politics). Just a little bit of Canadian trivia for you!
  15. I didn't like Mia Steensgaard's designs for Manon so do not have high hopes for what she will do to Swan Lake.
  16. The new Daphnis and Chloe by Benjamin Millepied is being created on her.
  17. Ballet San Jose: JUST ANNOUNCED! Artistic Director José Manuel Carreño will dance the lead role of Don Jose in Carmen, May 9 and 10. José Manuel Carreño, Artistic DirectorBallet San Jose Artistic Director and former star of American Ballet Theatre, English National Ballet and the Royal Ballet José Manuel Carreño will take the stage for the first time in more than a year for his debut in the role of Don Jose in Roland Petits Carmen, partnering Ballet San Jose Principal Dancer Alexsandra Meijer in the title role, in two performances: Friday and Saturday, May 9 and 10, at 8 pm. Says Carreño about his upcoming performances: Luigi Bonino [who is staging Carmen for Ballet San Jose] asked me a few weeks ago if I would perform Don Jose and I told him no, that I have too many things on my plate right now as Artistic Director. But his request got under my skin because this is a role I have never danced and have long wanted to. I talked about it with Associate Artistic Director Raymond Rodriguez and we decided 'let's go for it.'"
  18. RB will be in Chicago June 18-21 with Don Q: http://www.auditoriumtheatre.org/pages/home/performances-events/performances.php?event_id=520 NYC will be the last stop after Chicago. It seems RB will compete with ABT head on, my worst fear. I have to choose between NYCB and ABT early in the season, I really hate being forced to pick between 2 companies again. It will be ABT 75th anniversary season, I assume ABT will pull out all the stops. does anyone have any idea when Lincoln Center is likely to announce the specific dates for each program (ie Don Q and the Mixed program, presuming RB is doing both in NY?)
  19. Ida Praetorius and Andreas Kaas in Lady of the Camellias, wow that's a big step for both of them.
