  1. About repertoire all I know is what we wrote in our article in fotoescena As far as dancers are concerned, some names of principals and corps are already known and all contracts have been sent but they can not publish the complete list yet. They foresee to do so by the last quarter of this year and the company will start working in January 2008 to be ready for the Bayadere premiere on September 8th at the Teatro Real in Madrid. I'm anxious to know more as well
  2. Hi susibee! We commented about "Push" performance at the Teatro Real in Madrid in this topic here below: http://ballettalk.invisionzone.com/index.p...c=24715&hl= You will also find a report with vey nice shots.
  3. Interesting! The quote is over 3 months old -- But what do you all think? Well I knew about, I posted this in fotoescena. I do not like at all Tamara's attitude. She can of course think that Angel's Company will not be the "right" one but to say this when he is fighting for it and need all support is not very fair from her, I think I have never read anything from Angel's side against Tamara. In any case I do not see any movement from nor the government neither the Royal House supporting any of the projects. It's really a pity as a project of this kind needs full suport from the institutions, even if Angel's will be private the possible donors will trust more in the project seeing a support of this kind. A pity what happens in Spain
  4. I would like to let you know about an article just published in www.fotoescena.net José Carlos Martínes an "étoile" dancer>> << "Cendrillon" In fact there are two articles. The first one -split in two parts- is a report on José Carlos Martínez with a rehearsal with Agnes Letestu while they were preparing their roles for Cinderella and an interview with our Spanish "étoile" danser who has two roles in this ballet. The second in about "Cendrillon" itself with some very beautiful shots of Emilie Cozette in this role. To be able to read all in English you have to return to the main page cause the links inside the articles are not properly set yet Hope you like it!
  5. Let's see what they replay. There is only one consevatoire in Barcelona but as for classical dance I think that they are not very good. The best classical dance school in Barcelona is David Campos one. David has also a small Company trying to survive and they really do a good job. He was principal at the Royal Ballet of Flandes and he came back to Barcelona with his wife, Irene, who also was principal dancer in that Company to run a school and Company in his city. David Campos Dance Company He has very little help but his Nutcracker is every Christmas in the city and sourroundings and we never miss it. But I'm pretty sure Liceu dancers doesn't come from there
  6. Today I have had the replay from the Liceu, Barcelona Opera House. They say that they carry out open auditions for a selection of dancers among the ones who had shown their interest and have sent their curriculums. Then the Staging Director and the Choreographer of the production make the final selection according to the production needs. I do not know how and where they publish that they are looking for dancers. I’ve asked again.
  7. No there is no dance Company in any Opera Theater in Spain. Incredible but true. It is the second case. Following to Grissi comment I've asked the Liceu from where they get the dancers, let's see what is their replay, if any. Dance does not matter at all :-(
  8. They told that the company would have between 70 and 80 dancers as follows: 10 Principals, 10 Soloists, 40/50 corps de ballet and 10 apprentices. As not all Principals and Soloists attended that auditions maybe the results do not show the total number of the future dancers.
  9. Oh yes! but one in Barcelona, please... Yesterday I went to the premiere of the Mussorgski's opera "Khovanchina" and the Slave dance was awfully performed. From where do they get the dancers for ballet in operas? Only in very few occasions we have seen good dance i.e. Corella/Guliani "La Gioconda, Julio Bocca and his ballet in Enrique VIII, and I do not remerber any other and this in nearly ten years in the rebuilt Gran Teatre (maybe I forget or do not know about one or two but no more for sure) But anyway, we could still have three! No, I'm dreaming, for the time being let's cross our fingers so that Corella gets all the support he needs from both the mecenas and the government or the Royal House who are who can make that the economical power is confident on the project and see that investing on it will give them an appreciated cultural status.
  10. The press note has been published in Angel web site As for the names it seems that some dancers haven't told their current companies that they will be leaving so the organization can not issue any list of names. Hoping we will know soon, maybe after summer.
  11. I only saw it in TV but I fully agree too Grissi, but still I even would emphasize on Tamara's performance. Some nice pictures here by the middle of the topic
  12. This is what I said Sophia: I'm not so familiar with the ONP but as I've seen her on stage I wanted to congratulate her but also leaving my impressions.
  13. I completely agree, if it was me I'm for sure would do the same. I think that one has to control this kind of things, quality always first. When you see some dancer's web pages full of photographs that do not add nothing it's sometimes even disgusting. And about what you say "it gives a sense of the "look" of the production" exactly! a picture, or a poster, or an add... has to show what we are going to see, no matter how creative it is or how beautiful it can be, it has to be respectful with what is going to be in the performance, if not, the audience can be confused or even angry. Many thanks bart for your opinion, I'm glad you liked our article
  14. I've seen her only once in Cendrillon but she danced when it was not foreseen she had to -in a substitution of Mrs. Aurélie Dupond-. To be honest she looked rather tired and her performance did not convince but I do not know enough about her to be able to say if from my point of view she deserves this honour or not. In any case: Congratulations to Mrs. Emilie Cozette too!
  15. Hi! Unfortunately I couldn't attend but Jesús did and had been able to take photos and to publish an article with the authorization of Mrs. Guillem who is always very exigent concerning her image but always gives permission to him when she comes to Spain. If you want to take a look: "PUSH" by Sylvie Guillem and Russell Maliphant at the Teatro Real in Madrid but I'm a lucky woman as she will be in Barcelona next June to dance with Akram Khan and I wont miss her. :huepfen024: And Grissi, it is the same in Barcelona, believe me, I also try that they include more ballet but they always say that it is an Opera Theater and that their audience doesn't like ballet very much but last season in La Gioconda, the "Dance of the Hours" was danced by Angel Corella and Leticia Giuliani and it was their dance who got the most enthousiastic applauses. 10 minutes of dance in a 4 hours opera and it was the dance who was the most appreciated. I think that this season it will be at the Teatro Real, don't miss it!
  16. I have had no problem up to now to post or inform about articles or reports from other web pages so I take the initiative to link you to the shots 4mrdncr is talking about: Tamara's Giselle with ENB in Barcelona by Fotoescena with these wonderful pictures of Jesús Vallinas I hope there is no problem and that you also like them. The pic 4mrdncr is talking about is just at the end. Thank you very much 4mrdncr
  17. They have been in Madrid with Push and I hope a report will come soon in fotoescena. Jesús Vallinas was the only photograph in Spain that got Sylvie's permission to shot duting the performance: http://www.fotoescena.net/foro/viewtopic.php?t=1024 and Sacred Monsters with Akram Khan will be in Barcelona in June this year :huepfen024:
  18. The entire post is at The Winger. Scroll down a bit. And, here's what they have so far on the company website: Morphoses. The Wheeldon Company Thank you very mucha bart!! These so great dancers join the company only for touring isn't it? or will some of them be in the Morphoses staff? I guess not Angel Corella as with the ABT and his Company in Spain he probably will not have time for more. Unfortunately there is no plan for coming to Spain but September in London can be a good option
  19. I’m afraid that this is a very difficult matter as bart is right and it depends on whether you are talking in Spanish (Castellano) or Catalan or other regional languages of Spain. What I can tell you is that for instance the “ll” in Corella doesn’t correspond to the “y” of yes, no matter if you pronounce it in Spanish or Catalan, but I do not know how to show you how it sounds, I’m afraid it doesn’t have a correspondent in English. Gomez should be said Gome”th” as Lucía is “Lu”th”ia, this “th” applies for “ce”, “ci” and “ze” “zi” As far as Liceu is concerned if you speak Catalan it is “Lee-SEH—oo” and if you speak Spanish it is “Lee-THEH-oo” But do not worry about regional Languages. Spanish should be ok everywhere in Spain. I have tried to help a bit on this but maybe PsFs could help much more here than me.
  20. I was invited to see the last audition at the Liceu last Saturday in BCN. The level of the attendants was very high and it seems that it has been the same all the days long. They followed a class given by Mr. ELDAR ALIEV Ballet Master of Boston Ballet, and former principal dancer at the Bolshoi. This was the first audition I saw in my life and I was very surprised because even if one could very early clearly notice a big difference of level between the attendants, all succeeded with a great respect to everybody, leaving all the people finish their one hour class. After this hour some of them were asked to do alone more exercises, and this is that people who are in the list of candidates. I think that the final list of dancers for the “Ballet the España” (they confirmed me the name) will be announced by 15 days.
  21. I don’t know bart. I was pretty sure that the name will be “Ballet de España” but now I read about "Compañía de Ballet Ángel Corella” and I’m a bit confussed too. I’ll try to find it out.
  22. If you want to see some pictures of the auditions you can go to the bottom of this topic here There is also written information but I’m afraid it is only in Spanish. I’m not sure if an article about it all will follow in both Spanish and English. In any case I translate what Jesús Vallinas, photograph and manager of fotoescena, said concerning the auditions after his attendance as dance photograph at the Teatro Real in Madrid: The first shot of the topic shows Cynthia Harvey, Vladimir Vassiliev, Eldar Aliev (dance teacher of the Boston Ballet) and Ángel Corella, together with Mª Begoña Acuña representing the Foundation. More than 700 dancers from 10 different nationalities attended the auditions, a lot of them traveling thousands of Km. to be there. Dozens of soloists and first dancers from all over the world are interested in the project… …… …… -------------------------------------------------------- Second and third shots: Eldar Aliev’s class is fast and demanding, dancers capacities are put to test. It is designed to see the response, according to the classic discipline, of all kind of dancers. As I could notice the level of a corps de ballet as well as the one of a soloist is easily revealed. All attendants do the complete class and only at the end, a reduced group is selected to follow with more exercises. According to the organization, once the auditions have finished, the final selection will be announced to the participants by 15 days. Vladimir Vassiliev replayed to one question from the media with his usual -direct and honest- character and with a deep knowledge of the subject: "It is a shame that Spain does not have a Classical Company" That is what he said….. and he left with no more comments. The rest of the topic is about Jesús requesting to cultural politics and organizations to ponder about Mr. Vassiliev words. The last shot shows Cynthia Harvey and Vladimir Vassiliev over a letter I sent to the Catalan media asking them to cover the event as the Spanish newspapers did no mention at all about it. In Cataluña the two most important newspapers have published my letter and are covering the auditions.
  23. Uauuuu, I wish DD and her D friend lots of good luck! Please keep us posted about the results.
  24. Auditions for the Ballet de España are being carried out. They finished at the Teatro Real, in Madrid, and are going to take place in Barcelona's Opera House "Gran Teatre del Liceu" during this week. More than 700 dancers from all over the world attended the first 3 day auditions made by a jury composed by relevant people of the international dance world such as Cynthia Harvey or Vladimir Vasiliev. According to what Corella reported to Europa Press Televisión nearly all members have already been selected but the final decision will be made when Barcelona's auditions have finished. He was very surprised because of the high level of the attendants who came from all over the world, London, Japan, Australia... The Company will premiere at the Teatro Real, in Madrid, in September 2008 and after a performance in Barcelona it will make an international tour including Washington and Japan. AN "HISTORICAL" EVENT Mrs. Cynthia Harvey commented that creating such a company was an absolute need for Spain to give to the people of this country the possibility to enjoy classical dance, "why are there so many good Spanish dancers in London when they should be dancing here?" she asked. Comments from the other jury personality Mr. Vladimir Vasiliev were on the same way "It is rather strange that being dance such a very important issue for the people of this country, Spain doesn't have a Classical ballet Company" he said. To him, the creation of the Angel Corella's Classical Ballet Company is an "historical event not only for Spain but for all Europe". Summary of the article Published in Terra Actualidad - Europa Press If you follow this link you will find a picture of Ángel Corella with the members of the jury and the ballet teacher Mr. Eldar Aliev (at about the end of the post) shot by Jesús Vallinas during Madrid auditions.
  25. Is Castrati new in the repertoire? It's one of my favourite Duato's choreographies
