  1. The POB pre-sale seemed to be pretty brisk. I was at the box office today, there're 5 people in front of me, 4 of them were buying POB tickets, by the time I reached the front of line, there're 7 people behind me but didn't know if they were trying to buy POB tickets. Some of the tickets are slightly cheaper for week nights, for example the $65 seats cost $55 for week nights. I've got very good seats for my price bracket. If you're a NYCB subscriber, you should have received a letter from NYCB containing a code which enables you to buy tickets during the pre-sale period.
  2. Pricing: Orchestra & 1st Ring: $25, 65, 95, 125, 150 2nd Ring: $25, 65, 95, 125 3rd Ring: $25, 65, 95 4th Ring: $25, 65 5th Ring: $25 4th & 5th Rings won't be available until the lower rings are filled.

  4. The 2012/13 dance series is now on the website: http://www.scfta.org/home/Content/ContentDisplay.aspx?NavID=993 ABT is not on the roster. I expected ABT would tour Ratmansky's Nutcracker in So. Cal. but it doesn't seem to be the case.
  5. I am a contrarian, if I were in your shoes, I'd pick Kent. There will be plenty of opportunity to see Osipova, her career with ABT is just starting. So catch Kent's Giselle while you can.
  6. As reported in NYT: http://artsbeat.blogs.nytimes.com/2012/02/24/new-york-city-ballet-music-director-to-step-down/?ref=arts
  7. The Dream castings are now available: June 21 X. Reyes C. Stearns H. Cornejo June 22 J. Kent M. Gomes D. Simkin June 23 2pm G. Murphy D. Hallberg C. Salstein June 23 8pm X. Reyes C. Stearns H. Cornejo
  8. ABT not likely as the MET season is almost all casted. It could be Mikhailovsky. If that's the case, MB needs to poach more women.
  9. Just going by what I saw in print. The mention of the MET in the title is also a tiny error, n'est-ce pas? I'm sure that NYC-based Mariinsky fans were hoping that the title were correct. Alas, the body of text clearly states Washington, DC. I also think the "MET" in the title is an error. However, in the video link that you posted, I thought I heard the Russian reporter mentioned Metropolitan Opera at the end, so there's still hope.
  10. It could be that Mikailovsky has not finalized the NY castings yet. I can't imagine MB's crown jewels being absent from the all important NY tour. However if you look ABT & MB schedules, if Osipova was casted in MB mixed program and Giselle, she would have to dance at least 2 consecutive nights, it'd be tough. But Osipova is clear during the MB Sleeping Beauty run.
  11. You should be fine, there will be plenty of good seats when the box office opens on 4/1. What I was trying to say there'll be plenty of eventual sold-outs but that'll happen well after 4/1. I am relatively new comer to ballet and I remember only 2 occasions where there were near sold-outs when the box office opened. I went to the box office on opening day trying to buy Ferri's farewell performance, I waited for about 3 hours and managed to get a Family Circle side seat, all the lower tier seats were gone by the time I got to the window. When ABT annouced Nina's retirement, I figured the only way I could get a decent seat was thru a subscription and that's when I first became a subscriber and I still have the subscription. My friend went to the box office on opening day and couldn't get a ticket, she later ponied up and bought a post-perfomance dinner package for about $500. I think the shortages were partly caused by ABT taking lots of house seats for its donors and to repackage in these 2 occasions. I bought an ABT 6 series subscription, and I would love to see the 4 companies you mention, in addition to the Chinese company, but I can't justify it to myself, when I add in parking, tolls, and incidental costs, and have a bad book purchasing habit (although I have used the library and netflix for many dvds and books on ballet). I seldom pay for parking when I do it's usually Sat. afternoon and use a garage 3 blocks from LC off Amsterdam that charges only $10 including tax for the whole day. If you know where and when to look, you shouldn't have trouble finding free street parking. I am not aware of any Chinese company visiting NY, were you referring to Shen Yun (sp.)?
  12. That's my understanding. Major donors always have access to all the actual available seats, being a 99% that I am I don't have that access. There's a trade off between being an early bird and a late comer during the exchange week. Early birds have the first dibs of whatever seats available while late comers have access to subscription seats just released by the early birds. I renewed my subscription along with an order for a bunch of single tickets last year, I exchanged some of my existing single seatsj and bought additional ones and got hit with the dynamic pricing penalty. I just renewed my subscription with no single ticket order but will buy additonal tickets with the Trio this year. Remember there will be no dynamic pricing penalty if you exchange with your subscription tickets later in the season. With many epic castings, like Osipova/Kobborg/Vasiliev, Vishneva/Seminonova, Cojocaru/Osipova, Vishneva/Osipova...etc, there're going to be many sold-outs. In addition to NYCB, you also need to figure out your budgets and schedules for the Australian and the Mikhailovsky across the plaza, and POB this comig spring/summer season.
  13. Why did Bolshoi get rid of Uvarov and try to get rid of NT? I assume it's for NT's trouble making? What's AU doing now? If NT were to leave his dancing position, would he be offered a teaching/coaching position at the Bolshoi? I assume he'd have no trouble finding a dancing position in the West if he left Bolshoi?
  14. According to ABT & Met insiders and public information, and many of you may have already knew, here's the order in which seats are filled: 1. Regular subscriptions renewal, renewing subscribers can request seat improvement. 2. New regular subscriptions. 3. Trio subscriptions renewal. 4. New Trio subscriptions. 5. Single ticket orders from renewed subscribers. 6. One-week exchange period before box office opens to public in which subscribers can exchange their tickets and purchase additional tickets. 7. Box office opens to general public. If you want to exchange your subscription tickets for better seats during the exchange period, wait until later that day, more good seats will be released into the pool from subscriber who exchange seats earlier. Trio subscribers can buy as few as 3 performances and as many as they want in their subscriptions, they'll get the best available seats in each performance but they'll not get the same seats for each performance like regular subcribers do. The wild card here is the house seats which ABT reserves for VIPs, corporate sponsors, individual donors, and 5-star hotel concierges..., etc. Those house seats are creme de la creme and if they are not sold ABT will release them days before the performances. I've seen those seats being released in real time at the Met website as I was browsing the seating chart. If you are a procrastinator, you may be able to score those house seats, and I have. However, because of the dynamic pricing (new last year), you may have to pay a higher price for those tickets. Dynamic pricing doesn't affect subscribers who try to exchange their tickets price wise. For example if a single ticket holder wants to exchange a ticket for a different date or section, he or she will need to pay the price difference between the original price and the higher dynamic pricing price. A subscription ticket holder doesn't have to pay the dynamic price difference if it's an even exchange, if it's not, he or she needs only pay the original price difference. So if you are going to see at least 3 performances but can't decide which, it may be wise to do a trio subscription just for the purpose of locking in the price to exchange for those creme de la creme house seats later. Also, there are usually people try to sell their tickets in front of the theater or the plaza, you could score some pretty good seats at a very good price. I have.
  15. I found tdf website but I couldn't find the discount tickets within the website. Thanks.
  16. Would you provide a link? I couldn't find it. Thanks.
  17. Did anyone see the Air France Le Parc TV commerical? I wonder if it's part of the upcoming POB US tour tie in. Absolutely beautiful. The most beautiful airline TV spot I've ever seen. I wonder who're the 2 dancers in the commercial, are they from POB?
  18. A Japanese audience sitting next to me at the Met told me tickets for the ABT Japan tours had been sold out well in advance, and that ballet has a huge following in Japan, whenever there's a big name company touring Japan, it's all sold out. Here's a TV promo spot:
  19. Hallberg will probably be guesting with AB's Merry Widow down under around that time. The CC season is only a week, so I don't see the need to summon all the principals.
  20. What are the percentages of "home-grown" at principal and soloist levels at POB, RDB, Bolshoi, and Mariinsky? I assume it's close to 100% at POB, Bolshoi & Mariinsky; while RB is somewhere in between ABT & NYCB.
  21. According to NY Times, the opening night will be a tribute to Maya Plisetskaya, Maestro Geigiev will conduct, and she will most likely take a curtain call at the end of the performance.
  22. Bright Stream La Bayadere Onegin Firebird mixed reps Corsaire Giselle Swan Lake R&J The list is not my wish list, the info came from current & future company members. I expect to see Vishneva/Gomes in Onegin and pairing of O/V. So the only room left for wish list is the Firebird mixed reps program and castings. FB could be paired with a longer ballet like the Dream or Ballet Imperial or 2 shorter ones like T&V, Dumbarton, 13 Diversions or both with rotation of different pieces with FB as the closing ballet or may be an all Stravinsky program....
  23. That's one dreadful, charmless production. I hated it when ABT did it several year ago, I thought I'd give another try or two and hated it even more this time. ABT should have scheduled the run while the Danes were here so I could have devoted more time across the plaza. I think the timing of the run was deliberate when all the competitions had already left town. I wish ABT would stage Ashton Cinderella, to me Ashton's is the standard bearer.
  24. Did anyone see Wed. matinee? That was Wiles farewell performance with ABT. That's Victor Barbee. I also spotted Jacques d'Amboise in the audience.
