I heard this with my own ears. I am not making it up. An opera company nearby Washington was advertising its season opener. It's exciting, it's wonderful, it's etc etc. All perfectly acceptable. And then they ended with this line?

"Opera.....it's better than you think!"

Should ballet be left out? Along these lines, I came up with

"Ballet....almost as fun as curling!!"

I'm sure someone can top that.

Shot of a gravestone, with the epitaph: ""All things considered, I'd rather be at the ballet."

(Apologies to WC Fields.)

Argh! I work for an opera company and that makes me cringe. Right along the lines of, "Trust me, honey, creamed spinach is really good!"

Ballet -- not effete, not elite, just really neat.

Ballet -- it's like baseball without the spitting.

Ballet -- forget the fairy dust; these are fairies that sweat.

Oh, Manhattnik. You insist on thinking postiively!

I'll amend that to:

Ballet -- it's not as bad as opera!

Thanks for all the suggestions so far. I see a lot of material for bumper stickers here!

Ballet: Why should little old ladies have all the fun?

Ballet: More fun than a Turkish prison.

Ballet: After dragging the little wifey to all those ball games, it's only fair...

"Da Ballet" : ages ago (1991? 1992?) Ballet Chicago did do that one... with a billboard. I thought it worked, but then the company did just keep shrinking & shrinking... so maybe not.
