Yes, Marc, I agree about the music cuts. That is one of the reasons that I bought the DVD, I love the music in the beginning!

Mine too! I remember when I was a kid he used to be a resident guest with Boston Ballet and I had the fortunate opportunity to be on stage as a peasant while he was Basilo in Don Q! He was gracious enough to sign autographs for me and some of my buddies! My thoughts and prayers go out to him and his family... Oooh and I just remembered that his wife, Maria, danced with me in Don Q. She was a "friend of Kitri."

That is really funny; I was at Virgin Records today and I saw this DVD. I was about to buy it when I said "WAIT! I Should check it out first with Ballet Alert." Does anyone have it and no if it is worth it? Are the performance clips on a "sound stage" or are they from actual performances?

I think it is a big loss for Houston Ballet She is amazing! But I am sure that Houston Ballet will be ok and she I am certain will find a place that will be more suitable for her contributions.

Any music suggestions?

Tango49 - Yes, it was in August of 2002. These dancers are now at Het Nationale Ballet in Amsterdamn. Actually, they were originally from there, came to Boston for about two years and then went back in 2003. Did you get to see this performance?

Hi Tango49! Thanks so much; I will look into this ballet company. Do they have a website? The only companies I know of in Orlando are Orlando Ballet Theater and Central Florida Ballet. I actually choreographed a pas de deux for Central Florida Ballet with dancers from Boston Ballet in August of 2002.

Hey rg! Yes, I read an article about this ballet "Magic Mirror" in a magazine a couple of years ago or so; I may have to have a score commissioned... I have also heard of Paul Taylor's version - mine would really try to be a semi-classical production (in pointe shoes etc.) Hey Hans!- I think I would probably use the shortest guys in my company and maybe even some girls for the dwarfes? hmmmmmm (of course this is all just a fantasy for me; i do not actually have a company, but hope to someday!)

What do you think? I am not talking about a twenty/thirty minute condensed version for children. I was thinking about an evening length, adult and children appropraite version. What does everyone think? I would base it more off of the original story (not tooo gross.) But, I would have a big emphasis on the evil queen. Music ideas, etc. are much appreciated!!! I already know about Bruce Wells' version for BBII and PNB; but I want to do either a three or two act ballet for it. Maybe I am nuts ???

Does anyone know if it is possible to get a recording of the OPERA score w/out vocals?

There is a nice video link at the Kennedy Center about the Mariinsky Theatre and she is featured in it. It is interesting, she is featured as both a dancer and as a coach; I assume it must be relatively recent. I will try to get the link up here, at some point tonight or tommorrow.

I do not think it needs or should have a curtain raiser. The ballet, IMO, is well stated and long enough to make an evening. Boston did Allegro Brillante, I remember, once with A Midsummer Night's Dream. But, they probably have done it with other ballets as Giselle, though I am not sure. This was back in 1992 - gosh time flies!!
