  1. One more thing- Daniel Meja is a big idol of mine! He was such an amazing dancer, but the best part was he was so nice! I remember one show of "Midsummer's Night Dream" in 1992 when he was supposed to have a publicity shot of himself. He came running into the childrens dressing room and wanted all of us to join him. (However, the stage manager had different opinions!)
  2. I just bought a dvd of the Paris Opera Ballet dancing Nureyev's "Don Q." It is great because it is so recent (April 2002, I believe.) The dancing is wonderful of course and yes there are some differences that I noticed when I thought back to the video I have of the Kirov (Terekhova and Ruzimatov.) Particularily with the musical orchestration. John Lanchberry arranged the music. There are even some excerpts from "La Bayadere," in Act II (or at least from Makarova's version.) But, the actual technical aspect of the dancing seems very difficult! However, it is danced beautifully by Aurelie Dupont and Manuel Legris. Side note: When I was a student at the BBSchool back in 1993, I was a peasant in "Don Quixote." Opening night was danced by Jenifer Gelfand and Fernando Bujones. This was not the Nureyev version. Anna-Marie Holmes did in fact set it and then re set it in April of 2000. I also got to be one of the puppets in Act II.
  3. The first ballet I saw was Boston Ballet's "Tales of Hans Christen Anderson" I believe in 1990. They did a triple bill of fairy tales which were: The Ice Maiden The Steadfast Tin Soldier and Wild Swans I know that the choreography for Steadfast was Bruce Marks and the choreography for Wild Swans was Jill Bahr but I am not sure about Ice Maiden. I wish I remembered. I do remember that Jenifer Gelfand danced the role of the paper ballerina in Steadfast...
  4. Ok, lets see... Chopiniana (they called it Les Sylphides of course) Afternoon of a Faun Le Spectre De La Rose Petrushka Yep that was the program. I remember Petrushka had gorgeous sets and costumes and the corps of Sylphides was extremely well together and in sync with each other. Joseph
  5. I saw Ballet de Bordeaux about four years ago in Florida. They did a mixed "Diaghelev" (sp?) bill. They were very good!!! (Just thought I'd throw that in...) Joseph
  6. Well, I went to the library and found a copy! Now, I just need to find someone who is willing to copy it for me... Otherwise I can renew it and do it when I get home. (I am on vacation right now) Thanks for all your help, rg!!! Joseph
  7. Thanks rg! I checked out the ebay site... If only I had a PAL system! However, I wonder if possible, I could have it converted??? But would the quality go bad?? I had to convert some tapes from PAL to NCST and the quality was not so good. Maybe that is because they were home videos...? Ok, well I will keep searching and asking around, I bookmarked the ebay site and will make a final decision I guess in about 7 days! Thanks again, that is so nice of you to search for me...
  8. Hey Solor! I am so so so so so so so sorry that I just re-joined this board recently. I have a copy of this version of "Swan Lake," but I lent it out to someone. She has had it now for over a year! But, seeing your post reminded me to call her to get it back. Once I get it back and get back home (I am in Mass. right now) I will be glad to burn you a copy. I also love and have a lot of ballet music. We should get in touch. I will be back home on June 16, and hopefully I will have my cd back! Joseph
  9. Hi! Does anyone have or know where I could get John Cranko's ballet "Eugene Onegin" on video. There is a video of it that I should have grabbed a few years ago that was for sale at Tower, but they no longer seem to carry it. I also checked Virgin Records, and they do not have it. It is a video with the National Ballet of Canada. If anyone could give me any information on how or where I may be able to purchase this, it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much... Joseph
  10. ONEGIN is a beautiful ballet with the most gorgeous music I have ever heard in a classical ballet. It gives me chills! As one can tell, it is indeed my favorite ballet and I idolize Cranko and I also idolize Kurt Heinz Stolze who in which arranged the music by Tchaikovsky for the ballet. They originally tried to have the music be the same score as for the opera Onegin, but the government of Russia (or something like that,) vetoed it and said it was not right. So, Stollze went and took all sorts of fragments of Tchaikovsky's "unknown" works and made one beautiful ballet score. He also worked with Cranko on "The Taming of the Shrew." Onegin carries a very good moral and message to it ( in my opinion.) The message is "What goes around, comes around." One will have to see the ballet to understand what I mean. Sincerely, Joseph
