  1. Was this ever broadcast? If so and if you intend to broadcast the video material (say in a documentary), you will need to either get the permission of the entity that owns the footage. Or, pay them the associated broadcast fees. Generally speaking, the producers, production house, or television station owns the footage. Having said that, THEY (program producers) may have paid the NYCB archive for the footage. As a producer myself, it gets complicated.
  2. At this stage, all of this information is being used for research material for potential future script writing. Living and non-living are all welcomed! If the program were to get off of the ground, I would certainly welcome all ballet fans. Not just the famous!
  3. Hello everyone, I am researching for an upcoming television pitch and I am wondering what famous/celebrities are often seen support ballet. I know SJ Parker and Kevin Klien made appearances on the Balanchine Celebrations. Are there notable others? Thank you!
  4. "Enduring Tradition: Ballet in the Heartland" a 30 minute documentary featuring former NYCB principal dancer, Gen Horiuchi and his company the Saint Louis Ballet is now complete. The film will be broadcast on local public television at the end of the month and will also be available on DVD. Probably via the company website. (stlouisballet.org)
  5. Is Maria back? I do hope she's on the mend if not back on stage.
  6. Did anyone happen to tape it? My local never posts the guests until the following day. So sadly, I missed it.
  7. I am confused and suprosed that Amy Aldridge isn't being featured more with PA Ballet. Especially during a series featuring the work of Balanchine.
  8. Last week there was an NPR story featuring the students at Ballet Academy East and the Nutcracker. I forget the shows name, but it was on NPR. It was rather positive. I missed the segment that started this thread.
  9. Respectfully, I was more interested to see if she was ok. Sadly, I won't be in NYC until the new year.
  10. Hello from the mid west. Is Maria Kowroski injured? I haven't seen her name much and hope she's well. Best,
  11. As a photographer, it's great to see that there is such an appreciation for capturing the art on film. St. Louis Ballet (www.stlouisballet.org) has been kind enough to use my work. Feel free to pop around. Best, 32tendu
  12. As a photograher, I agree with your post celebrating Martha Swope and her work. Ballet was truly fortunate to have her. Paul Kolnick certainly has unlimited access to beauty and he captures it accordingly. I view ballet photography as a tool paramount in the preservation of the art and it's significant contributions. Best, 32tendu
  13. I just want to add my appreciation of this photo. It's one of the coolest portrait images I've seen. Thanks for bring it up. Peace!
  14. This is an excellent forum. As I have a pocket full of questions. Why is it that ballet and most art programs are not supported by the government here in the states like it is in most countries? It's a heavy topic, but it's important and probably best answered the government. It seems that the USA loses great performers and choreographers to countries that have art supported and funded programs. Peace.
  15. The gasping of the audience in reaction to the cell phones was pretty distracting too. I felt for Wendy as she stood there still and in a soft light without a sound... Suddenly, the sounds of bad ring tones. If you have to answer to someone while your at the ballet, you're not that important anyway.
  16. Where's Amy Aldridge in the Shut Up program this year? I was also suprise to see that she's only cast in a character role in the upcoming program. If she's healthy, her talent should certainly be showcased. Peace.
  17. Hi, My wife and I caught Peter Boal and Company at the Joyce on Thursday. The program was strong. It was nice to see Peter and Wendy performing together for my first time live. Sadly, people still don't understand how distracting cell phones are at performances. It seems we still have to teach etiquette in the theater. They make noise when you turn them off in the theater too. Stop! Peace!
  18. Hey there, I didn't know if this was posted this morning. However, here's the link to the story. http://www.nytimes.com/2005/02/21/books/21...artner=homepage You can also read it at www.reuters.com
  19. Thanks Jack, I'll be sure to request those videos from the library. This weekend I was looking through a friends Karinska Costume book and there are some great images of Ms. Farrell there. Some that stand out in my mind are Don Q, Bugaku, and Jewels. Can't wait to see the video/dvd's you suggested. Take care,
  20. Thank you. I have got to get that documentary. Take care.
  21. Was Don Q with Balanchine performing ever recorded? I've seen a photograph, but no film. Thanks.
  22. In no certain order: Tanaquil LeClercq Kay Mazzo Suzanne Farrell Darci Kistler Maria Kowroski Jennifer Welch Cudnik- St. Louis Ballet Maria Chapman-PNB Amy Aldridge- PA Ballet
