For me, casting counts in my choosing to go to ballet. When one is not able to see many performances during the season, one tries to choose what to see. As lovely as D Kistler in the role of Titania, wouldn't one want to see K Nichols or M Weese or C Korbes etc. in this role? Joe

Most of the casting for the fall season is in their website now.Corp members Halberg, Salstein and Tidwell are cast in many ballets including the debut of Halberg in Theme and Variation. Joe

I recently saw Story of 3 Loves, an old MGM movie in TCM. The 1st episode featured the exquisite Moira Shearer, as a ballerina w/ a fatal heart disease.The choreography was credited to F Ashton to the music of Rachmaninoff's piano concerto'. . I know that Ashton did Rhapsody to the same music but any body knows if he used any of the ch0oreography from the movie later? I thought it was, as danced by Moira, very nice. Joe

Estelle, Yes,it is rather confusing in the POB website but Karinska did the City ballet version which is all white in contrast to L Fini's different color for each movement. If i remember it right the 2nd movement is quite different in each version. Joe

Too bad that they might dance S in C instead of Palais de cristal after all. The POB website says the costumes will be " after Karinska".It would have been nicer to see the original. Joe

I noted the absence of any dance-related features in this Sunday's Art section too. I don't recall of this happening before. More upsetting is the fewer dance reviews in the Times the last year or so. They used to review every cast of ABT/NYCB during the spring season but not the last 2 years. Anyone else noticed this?? Danilo,i think,was married to Chrisa Keramidas.She became a soloist and danced LA SOMNAMBULA(2nd cast).She left before him. Joe

Makarova's co.,i think ,lasted only, 1 season. It opened to a lot of fanfare w/ a lot of guest principals,aside from Natalia,including A dowell, P Schaufuss and a lot of dancers from the old London Festival Ballet.She started w/ a lot of young,new graduates for the corp de ballet. Unfortunately, the repertoire ( except for the staging of Paquita) did not please the critics. So w/ the young corp de ballet except for Nancy who danced Paquita(2nd cast). They must have lost money because the troupe disbanded the follwing season. Nancy joined ABT after that season.

Nancy Raffa! Whatever happened to her?I know she went w/ Ivan Nagy to Ballet de Santiago when he was the AD but lost any info after he left. She showed a lot of promise when she danced Paquita w/ N Makarova's ill-fated co. Joe

When she started w/ ABT, Martine Van Hamel did corp work. I hope it won 't discourage Monique as i have a feeling that her future is w/ ABT. Joe

Surely, Manhattnik is not recomending skipping Ashton's Dream and La Fille..,both choreographed after the revolution??I do agree w/ his admiration of those Ukrainians. Joe

If ABT is really smart, they will ask Suzanne Farrell to stage and coach either Mozartiana or Divertimento no. 15 for next season. I remember reading that she did wonders to Susan Jaffe in Mozartiana during the Balanchine festival years ago.She will do the same to the ABT ladies. Joe

ABT also did La Bayadere live a few days after it's premiere.Marianna Tcherkssasky replaced N Makarova in the 2nd act due to Natalya's injury but they knew ahead that Natalya would not be able to do the 2nd act.Anyway, Marianna was just just beautiful in this role. Joe
