  1. Ashley Hod and Gretchen Smith were both part of the MOVES group at Vail and were wonderful in challenging roles they premiered (DaaG, Pictures at an Exhibition). I would not be at all surprised if they were promoted tout de suite. Overall it was a wonderful weekend seeing NYCB back live. Both performances were nearly upstaged by critters running across the stage (a chipmunk and a squirrel, I think) but the dancers held their own. Anthony Huxley was mesmerizing in both DaaG and in his premier in Sonatine w Tiler Peck (also incredible).
  2. Anyone know who is likely to be in the company as "NYCB MOVES" to Vail International Dance Festival? I just got tix and am so excited to break the ballet performance fast! DAAG, Sonatine, In the Night, Pictures at an Exhibition.
  3. I wonder if Symphony in C is appearing so that Maria K can have one last go. She was SO beautiful in the PDD the last time it ran.
  4. Each state keeps a registry. I imagine that is what will be used in the future to verify since the cards are so ephemeral.
  5. Per Robbie's Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/p/CNfzZA_D8Yj/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link
  6. Wow!! He's just lovely in this role, and his youth shines! Effortless battement and so much spring in his step. Thanks for posting, Ivy!
  7. Do we know if the dancers will be paid during the cancelled seasons?
  8. Personally, I don't care for KM's dancing, and I find her social media empire insufferable, like that of most social-media-obsessed professionals. It is all incredibly narcissistic. But America loves a narcissistic celebrity. And yet, I watched almost the whole self-serving ("I'm an inspiration"), self-aggrandizing ("top-five company"), solipsistic ("trifecta of dance magazines') video right through like a sucker. It is like the Housewives - hard to turn away from. Can I get my money back?
  9. Let’s all hope the corona virus stays away so the show can go on! I feel terrible for all those SFBallet dancers who won’t get to perform in Midsummer.
  10. Casting is posted for the KC dates. https://www.kennedy-center.org/whats-on/explore-by-genre/ballet/2019-2020/new-york-city-ballet-68712/ Looks great! There's a whole new cast of corps dancers for Summerspace. What a great opportunity for them to push themselves and shine.
  11. Kowrowski's Diamonds PDD was breathtaking this past spring post-Farrell coaching. Maybe I was projecting a bit, but it was my most cherished ballet memory to date.
  12. I feel like there is a subtext in this article, but also in the general conversation about this situation, of unspoken, not-wanting-to-be-spoken, and/or “don’t you dare call me homophobic” homophobia. When I read about Ramasar’s “gusto,” or “machismo,” contrasted with Huxley’s reaction to a fall, I am left feeling like the community is still struggling with tremendous ambivalence about moving past traditional norms of gender. I just finished Michael Langlois’s book, and was struck by his description of the importance of gender-normative attitudes in a business that is decidedly queer. This “team Ramasar,” like the “team Martins” divide can feel like a pretty homophobic trope.
  13. Did Veyette dance today? Curious how he’s looking.
  14. I can't wait to hear from anyone who was at Tuesday's performance. How was Diamonds w Mearns/Janzen?
  15. I couldn’t agree more!
  16. Just saw today’s matinee. Mearns in Slaughter is a hoot. Legs, legs, legs. I don’t care for Barber at all. I think the partnering for the women is just gross. Diamonds made me gasp in delight multiple times. The corps was beautifully synchronous without being wooden. Much less icy than the Bolshoi corps at City Center, but much more put together than NYCB was at that foray. Maria and Tyler were a miracle in the second movement. Expert coaching? Pure artistry and command. They were less impressive in the allegros, but still strong. The Demi-soloists also looked great, with Alberda again leading the way. The audience was enraptured.
  17. It was a treat to see both of yesterday’s performances. Standouts for me were Lovette in Sonatine, who just glowed, and Fairchild in both roles. WOW, has she come back from maternity time with a renewed sense of herself that comes through. I had a more positive impression of Tanowitz’s work than most, it seems. Multiple people spoke to me at intermission to express their dismay, and I’m not one to engage with strangers (gross). I agree that it was too long, and pretty difficult to love, but I found her movement vocabulary refreshing (in contrast to Peck’s, which seemed like, well, Peck with more lifts than average). I quite enjoyed the gnarly quartet, and appreciated relationships I saw between the movement and, in particular, the folk themes. Let me agree in hailing Alberda’s. His unmannered dancing and beautiful lines should put him in line for promotion!
  18. Ramasar is on in week four in Brahms-Schoenberg Quartet opposite Mearns. https://www.nycballet.com/NYCB/media/NYCBMediaLibrary/PDFs/Press/Casting/NYCB-Casting_May-14-19-2019_2.pdf
  19. Thanks so much, Jane. That's exactly the week I'm hoping to go! I hope there will be tickets available.
  20. Hello, all. I've been lurking for several years, and finally decided to come aboard. I'm a dance fan in RVA, come up to NY for NYCB several times a year, Kennedy Center a couple times a year, and other performances when travelling.
  21. Any idea when single tickets go on sale for RDB? Can't figure it out from the website. I'm planning a trip next Spring.
