    Sarah Lane

I saw many beautiful performances with Lane and Cornejo together. I guess I'm sad that offstage things broke down between them so badly.

I love Sarah but it's not the partner's fault he was injured a lot. And since he was a bigger star than her I'm not surprised that she lost this game of company politics.
  3. Hmm. Overall I think Faye Arthurs is one of the most intelligent dance writers around. I had the pleasure of sitting next to her at an ABT performance we were both reviewing. She's an observant, sharply opinionated lady.

  6. I'm okay with large indoors gatherings requiring a mask, vaccination, or a combo of both. I wouldnt enjoy an event unless I felt safe.
  7. They've been closed to all audience members for months now. To me, that's a lose-lose situation.
  8. I think Alena Kovaleva looks a lot like Suzanne Farrell:

  11. I was watching Mayara Piniero in the Allegro Brillante that PA Ballet streamed and to me she resembles Paloma Herrera both in looks and style. If you covered one's face and told me the other was dancing, I'd believe you. Does anyone else have these dancer doppelgangers? A dancer who looks and dances very much like another dancer?
  12. I loved Mayara Piniero and Zecheng Liang in Allegro Brillante!
  13. I think they mean a vaccine greater than 14 days prior (fully vaccinated). I think moving forward proof of vaccination will become the standard requirement to attend indoor gatherings. Laminate your CDC cards!
  14. Dancers do make dropped wrists part of their style in Emeralds. Like it or not it's become part of the ballet's idiom, a bit like the jutting hips have become a part of Concerto Barocco. Violette Verdy: Roberta Marquez: Evgenia Obraztsova: Tiler Peck:
  15. I wonder what people would have thought of Suzanne Farrell, who made broken wrists part of her style:
  16. Overall a bit disappointed with the latest streaming program. I didn't feel the works were as strong as the other programs.
  17. The best chance for full resumption of performances is if enough of the population gets vaccinated. I'm afraid that until that happens, we'll be stuck in this "outdoor pod" limbo.
  18. More NYCB news: Brittany Pollack is having a baby! https://www.instagram.com/p/CN8Ja6ygzlt/
  19. IMO they should accept vaccine proof. By the summer everyone who wants a vaccine should be able to get one. Vaccines are also easier to check for because of the CDC cards.
  20. This is @pherank paragraph I refer to. Again, I say this: Liam Scarlett wasn't operating on a 100 years ago timeline. We aren't retroactively applying judgment the way people are to, say, Thomas Jefferson who had an extremely 18th century worldview about slaves and women and their roles in society. Liam Scarlett lived in 2020 and was expected to conform to the norms and values of 2020. Based on his termination from multiple ballet companies for problematic behavior re: students and dancers it seems as if he struggled with this.
  21. I'm really puzzled by the "this was okay 100 years ago" arguments. The fact is, Liam Scarlett lived in 2020, not 1820. In 1820 slavery was considered moral and just but I'd like to think that not everyone in 1820 if brought up in the 21st century would have the same views.
  22. Just an observation: this seems to have become yet another culture war. People are railing about "cancel culture" and "political correctness" without knowing anything about the reasons Scarlett was dismissed from so many companies.
  23. If you read comments on FB and twitter there's a whole bunch of "he was innocent, and such a genius" talk, and also of course a bunch of "political correctness gone awry" and "cancel culture" rants.
