  1. For the record I was at Nutcracker last night. I thought Unity and Joe had some partnering problems, including the second shoulder lift. Unity seemed to be slipping on his shoulder. Phelan's sequence of pique-turn-to-arabesque-penchee was a bit wonky too. Tiler Peck's Dewdrop is pretty much incomparable.
  2. Sara has now been replaced by Ashley Laracey for next week's SPF assignment as well.
  3. Tess Reichlen was a great Dewdrop. She isn't a whizbang allegro technician but she has big buoyant jumps and radiated authority.
  4. Here's another interview with Hyltin about SPF. https://sab.org/scenes/interview-with-a-sugar-plum/
  5. I think Hyltin has said in the past that her first "big" role was SPF. She says that the role is very dear to her for that reason.
  6. Here's a NY1 blurb about NYCB and Nutcracker and Sterling Hyltin: https://www.ny1.com/nyc/all-boroughs/entertainment/2021/11/29/new-york-city-ballet-s--the-nutcracker--returns-to-lincoln-center
  7. I was at Sunday evening's performance. It was absolutely wonderful -- Indiana Woodward might be the best Dewdrop after Tiler Peck. What speed and joy! Sterling Hyltin after all these years is still the warmest, loveliest of Sugarplum Fairies. Andrew Veyette looked in great shape -- best I've seen him in years. The slightly older kids were more noticeable in the second act. In the first act the party adults are all tall dancers. But in the second act, many of the angels were too tall for their costumes, and only four polichinelles could fit into Mother Ginger (the other four were hidden behind Mother Ginger). Also, the Marie was nearly as tall as Hyltin. But overall, a lovely performance. Kristen Segin was really great as Marzipan.
  8. There is intermission for Nutcracker.
  9. She's out next week as well -- she's being replaced by Fairchild/Garcia.
  10. Castig finally up for Week 3. https://res.cloudinary.com/new-york-city-ballet/image/upload/v1637953924/Documents/Casting/NYCB-Casting_Dec-7-12-2021-1
  11. This is what I wrote about Phelans Dewdrop on bachtrack:
  12. Second week of Nutcracker is up: https://res.cloudinary.com/new-york-city-ballet/image/upload/v1637098006/Documents/Casting/NYCB-Casting_Dec-1-5-2021 Am sort of tempted by Unity/Joe/Tiler.
  13. Week 1 casting is up: https://res.cloudinary.com/new-york-city-ballet/image/upload/v1636738146/Documents/Casting/NYCB-Casting_Nov-26-28-2021
  14. Scarlett was fired by the Royal Danish Ballet for "abusive" and "offensive" behavior with the Royal Danes. That was totally separate from the Royal Ballet.
  15. You can see a baby bump in this video: https://www.instagram.com/p/CWD9HnQJOqq/
  16. I think: 1) Her dancing is simply so overwhelming and 2) Tiler is a petite dynamo and cast in the allegro roles at NYCB. There's a long history of shorter, more compact dynamos in ballet. I think if Tiler were to dance Diamonds there might be comments ...
  17. Vaccine mandates are causing some orchestra members to be fired: https://www.post-gazette.com/ae/music/2021/10/26/Pittsburgh-Symphony-Orchestra-covid-19-vaccination-requirement/stories/202110220127
  18. I actually know of people who got vaccinated just to attend a one-off concert so you're not alone.
  19. Many dancers have been very outspoken about how they think the lack of vaccinations caused them to be out of work and threatened their livelihood. Herman Cornejo: https://www.instagram.com/p/CVVxZqkJRb9/
  20. The FDA is approving vaccines for 5 to 11 year olds. Hopefully that means more little kids can attend, just in time for Nutcracker season.
  21. I find that with AM it's not what he says, it's also how he says it. He comes across in this article as super-defensive, when sometimes a simple, straight explanation would do.
  22. At the Mariinsky Albrecht runs into the cottage with a fancy cape and comes out with his "peasant" brown outfit:
  23. David Hallberg used to do the brises very well too.
