  1. I wish we had a like button on here. Agreed, abatt.
  2. I don't believe that Cirio has taken Gorak's roles. Gorak would not be a likely candidate for Don Q or Corsaire. I think Lendorf has taken some of the roles that Gorak may have had a shot to dance, i.e., Swan Lake and Giselle. Cirio was not given either of those, unfortunately.
  3. Just came upon this thread. Boston is performing Forsythe's Artifact in Feb/March and Kylian's Wings of Wax, along with Balanchine's Donizetti Variations and Ekman's Cacti in March/April. I realize NBoC fans have seen Cacti. Wings of Wax is probably one of my favorite Kylian pieces and is beautifully danced by Boston.
  4. I would talk to the box office. There is an area at the break in the orchestra at orchestra left and right. Normally this is where they seat people in wheelchairs. There are chairs in those spaces and they can move the chairs out to wheel any wheelchairs into those places. http://bostonoperahouseonline.com/buying-tickets/seating-chart.html I have also seen people buy the end seat, wheel the person in and have the usher take the wheelchair out. I guess it depends on the extent of disability.
  5. I am just going to guess here, but many of the dancers have opportunities to guest at Nutcracker. Note that Simkin is not dancing and I don't think he did last year either. Sarah Lane usually has several guestings and it could be that she is only available that one weekend. I believe the company tries to balance availability with opportunities for dancers. As far as Gomes and Part, I am guessing once again, but both are getting into their upper 30's (I believe Part is 38 and Gomes will be 37 or close to it?) Dancing in The Nutcracker is just not important any longer. I know many dancers who would love to take themselves out of Nutcracker each year.
  6. Aston Fan - I wish we had a like button - I would double like your post, especially the part about the Rose Adagio.
  7. So, his contract was extended for five years without really seeing the results of his work. Lucky him.
  8. The latest article in reference to changes at PA Ballet. Saw this on several of the dancers' (both from PA Ballet and elsewhere) walls. http://dancemagazine.com/inside-dm/magazine/angel-corella/
  9. I believe that they have produced one professional dancer - Esmiana Jani with Washington Ballet. Also, Anastasia has a son, Alex, who will be returning to PA Ballet this fall in the corps.
  10. I know it is supposed to be official info only. I know one of their students, and the letter they were sent told them that they would do both. I am not sure how this is possible.

  12. Yes, as I said, the photo is fine, but the quality is terrible.
  13. I was so disappointed with the announcement. The photo is fine, but the quality is terrible. I thought to myself, "This is public relations from a top company?" Very dull.
  14. Wish we had a like button, mimsyb. Totally agree!
  15. This type of situation is not uncommon in the ballet world. Joe Walsh left Houston Ballet as a principal, went to San Francisco Ballet as a soloist, and was promoted the same year. Kajiya and Matthews went to Houston Ballet as soloists and she was promoted after Nutcracker. He had to wait until June. We do not know why Whiteside had to do more principal roles. I know, from being in Boston, that Cirio has danced numerous classical roles, as well as Balanchine leads and contemporary roles, many more than his male soloist counterparts at ABT. Additionally, he has guested around the country and world, guestings that are not mentioned in his ABT bio for some reason. As ABT fans, it can be disappointing not to see favorites within in the company promoted. Imagine how SF dancers and fans felt or Houston dancers and fans felt with the aforementioned additions. This is the ballet world.

  17. That's interesting, abatt. I have never seen the fish dives done any other way than one-handed.
  18. Very happy to hear this for James Whiteside!
  19. Of course, everyone has their own opinion. I just wanted clarification because I think casting has been fairly equitable this season. Of course, everyone to their own opinion on that one, too.
  20. "As Aurora Gillian was technically spotless as always, especially in balancing on single point with her four courtiers. She also stepped out of the shell perfectly. Cory was elegant--so nice to see a tall male dancer--and a supportive partner, especially in the repetitive falls into backbends in his arms. But I didn't feel anything magical in their performance. Maybe because it's the end of the season and Gillian has been carrying this company. Maybe because by Act 3 the overkill of the crowd scenes and the "shtick" of some of the Ratmansky choreography broke the spell for me,but I didn't feel the magic of the intimacy in the pdd that I was hoping for. Not to take anything away from Gillian's and Cory's performance but when I see her as Odette and Odile it is magic." I was wondering what you meant by Gillian has been carrying this company.
  21. It disappeared for awhile and then appeared again. Thanks, diane.
  22. It could be that he means performing as a guest this summer. I know he is going to Vail. And the company will be going to Paris. Perhaps he is referring to those?
  23. That would be very sad, as he is, in my opinion, poised for a promotion.
  24. I was looking over the season for Boston Ballet. Boston Ballet was the first American company to perform the Corsaire that ABT now performs, I believe. But instead of using that production, Nissinen chose Ivan Liska's "Le Corsaire" for the company. I have heard there are significant differences. Has anybody seen this production? Nissinen discusses it a bit in this article: https://www.bostonglobe.com/arts/theater-art/2016/02/17/corsaire-and-more-boston-ballet-season/wkenwdqo73rXKZs2zIFGsI/story.html
  25. Did something happen to the thread about 40% of dancers leaving PA Ballet? I cannot seem to find it.
