oberon
I just cruised thru the NYCB website...there is news flash that Igor Zelensky will dance DIAMONDS 2/12 and 2/14 matinee. Link to comment
The Uncrossed Fifth
I'm not sure if anybody will agree with me, but don't you think there is a certain point where a dancer just needs to turn in his shoes? How old is he anyway? like 45? Link to comment
Mme. Hermine
No, not at all; I think the oldest he could be is 35 or so. Link to comment
Alexandra
Since he was born in 1969, by my math that makes him 33. I saw him with the Kirov a few weeks ago in "Swan Lake" and he was dancing very well. Link to comment
Mme. Hermine
Thank you Alexandra! Link to comment
E Johnson
I'm not sure if anybody will agree with me, but don't you think there is a certain point where a dancer just needs to turn in his shoes? How old is he anyway? like 45? Kyra Nichols is, I believe the Times reported recently, 45. Does she need to choose her roles? Yes. Should she retire? not this season. Link to comment
Marga
I'm not sure if anybody will agree with me, but don't you think there is a certain point where a dancer just needs to turn in his shoes? How old is he anyway? like 45? Igor Zelensky is 33½ years old -- not exactly over the hill yet! As far as needing to turn in his shoes goes.....I don't see any reason for it while he is still dancing so beautifully well. I wonder what the reason is for your provocative post? Link to comment
The Uncrossed Fifth
Wow, i had no clue that Zelensky was so young! My earlier question was pertained to the ballet world, not dancing for oneself, but dancing for others. Link to comment
Farrell Fan
Perhaps Zelensky seemed older to TUF because he used to be a member of NYCB, and has been a guest with them in the past. As far as I'm concerned, he's always welcome. Link to comment
carbro
Seems to me he's dancing more as a guest with NYCB than when he was a member. Am I complaining? Not at all (except that we didn't get enough of him before). I loved his dancing from my first view of him dancing Apollo with the Kirov when it first brought him to New York. And he has yet to give me a disappointing showing. His Western last year was a hoot! Link to comment
Dale
I don't understand the question of his age, as he hasn't, in the performances I've seen of him recently, shown the signs of said age (he's in his prime). His jump is still spectacular, he lands like a panther (silently) and partners like a dream. Add to that his stage presence and musicality and I'm at a loss as to why there is a question. Has he performed poorly recently? He's had major back surgery, but from the reviews of his appearances in California recently with the Kirov and from what I saw of him on the St. Petersburg 300th special, he's still one of the best male dancers around. !! vrsfanatic
Maybe Uncrossedfifth is confusing Zelensky, 33 1/2 with Zaklinsky, 48? They are confused often since both are Vaganova Academy/Kirov Ballet, blonde and tall. Igor Zelensky danced with NYCB however to my knowledge Konstantin Zaklinsky never has. Perhaps this is your confusion? Link to comment
The Uncrossed Fifth
Perhaps i am. Is it konstatin on the Great Pas de Deux video doing Black Swan, or is it Igor? I could be a bit confused. Link to comment
oberon
Now Zelensky's been scatched and we are back to Philip Neal partnering Maria in DIAMONDS... Link to comment
Alexandra
Yes, Oberon. I put that on another thread yesterday -- Zelensky is injured. Link to comment
vrsfanatic
I am sorry The Uncrossed Fifth, but I am not as educated on ballet videos as well as others. Hopefully someone else can answer your question about the Great Pas de Deux video and Black Swan. Link to comment
