  1. Funny, the main casting I'm interested in is Monotones, but they didn't announce that casting. Given that I don't see Abrera or Part listed, I'm hoping that means they will turn up in Monotones.

    David Hallberg

    Thanks for the update.

    David Hallberg

Hallberg is scheduled to dance in the upcoming World Ballet Festival in Japan, which runs from August 1 - 13. His name is still listed, so I presume he will perform. http://www.nbs.or.jp/english/contents/schedule/world-ballet-festival-2015/ Looking forward to reviews from anyone who attends.
  4. No presales on regular tixs, as far as I know. Only Nutcracker presales. Doubt they will let you pick your specific seats on Create Your Own, but it's worth a shot to call and ask.

    Kathryn Morgan

Funny you mention AAIP, because I thought of Morgan for that role too. However, given her issues with her health and stamina in the past, I'm not sure the producers would risk putting Morgan into the lead role of a show for 6 performances a week. That's a tough schedule. Maybe she could be the "understudy" for two shows per week. (Robbie Fairchild now does only 6 of the 8 shows per week.) I wonder if she has ever attempted to approach Wheeldon about getting some role, even in the ensemble, in this production.
  6. Reported in NY Times. Sorry, having trouble posting the link to the article.
  7. The dates for the Fall For Dance Festival have been announced. The festival is from Sept 30 through Oct 11. No info on programs yet.
  8. I remember seeing Dvorovenko doing Sylvia pdd at City Center. I think it was when ABT began its fall seasons at City Center around 2000 or 2002. Of course, they have also done Prodigal, but not in quite a few years. Would love to see Herman as Prodigal.
  9. I just saw him in The Visit on Broadway in April. Just goes to show how your life can change in an instant after a cancer diagnosis. RIP.
  10. I thought Lucia Lacarra was married to Cyril Pierre.
  11. Hi NYSusan. The reviews indicate it is 1 hour 10 minutes, no intermission.
  12. I would be thrilled to see Kimin Kim, V. Shkylarov, Obratsova and Sarafanov again, in addition to Nunez. Osipova is always a welcome addition, but who knows if she'll be back at the Met. It was the guest artists who provided some of the most artistically rewarding performances of the season, in my opinion. From the home team, my favorite performances were Murphy's Hagar and Cinderella, Stella's Giselle, Vishneva-Gomes Giselle and all the Sleeping Beauty performances. Kochetkova never makes much of an impression on me, and now we get her full time.
  13. JMcN, does it matter where you sit. Should extreme sides be avoided? Is sitting really close a bad view? Thanks
  14. Barbara, I looked on Hallberg's website recently and the page for upcoming engagements is blank.
  15. Love Monotones. I'm there! Kochetkova and Lendorf joining the fall season. Interesting.
  16. No Tharp revivals for the Twyla tour, sandik. The program will be made up of all new works.
  17. Tickets are on sale for the performances at the Koch Theater for Twyla's 5oth Anniversary.. Dates 11.17.15 - 11.22.15 It's a program of all new work. They are PRELUDES AND FUGUES, set to J.S. Bach’s The Well-Tempered Clavier and YOWZIE http://davidhkochtheater.com/moreinfoTT.html
  18. The Chicago programs look fantastic. I hope we get those in NYC too. I see Hamburg Ballet is also performing in Chicago. Just checked the Hamburg website, and Chicago is the only tour venue in the US for next season. Darn.

In an interview a long time ago, Wendy Whelan said that she had sustained an injury during NYCB's tour to Russia because of the raked stage.
  20. I'm not so sure that will happen. Wheeldon and Josh Bergasse (On The Town) were choreographing to classical music, so there was a more natural fit with ballet. (Frankly, a lot of Bergasse's choreography is derivative of Jerome Robbins in On The Town.) But so many new musicals are "juke box" type musicals where ballet choreography would not work.
  21. http://www.nytimes.com/2015/07/06/arts/dance/review-tree-of-codes-flaunts-jaw-dropping-effects.html?ref=dance This collaboration of McGregor and POB dancers, titled Tree of Codes, was recently reviewed in the NY Times. Sounds interesting. It's coming to the Park Ave Armory in September.
  22. I think a lot of modern dance choreographers and their estates agree to allow ballet companies to perform their works because there is money to be made in doing so. Paul Taylor allows numerous companies, not just ABT, to perform his works. As an example, Ailey performed Taylor's Arden Court a few years ago. The Ailey dancers were pretty awful in it, in my opinion. Re Taylor's Black Tuesday, which was commissioned by and premiered at ABT, Taylor himself NEVER worked directly with the ABT dancers. He created the work in his own studios with the Paul Taylor dancers, and then one of his stagers set the work on ABT's dancers. I agree with Amour on Diversion of Angels. It definitely did not look like what the Graham trained dancers do. Ditto the ABT performances of a Merce Cunningham work a few years ago.
  23. Robet LaFosse in Bob Fosse's Dancin and Jerome Robbins' Broadway. Keith Roberts in Bourne's Swan Lake on Broadway.
  24. Sara Mearns filled in as Ivy for a couple of shows previousy, as did Tiler Peck for a few shows. So I'm not sure how difficult the choreography is to learn. My recollection is that Ivy is not in a huge number of scenes, although there is one big dance number featuring Ivy. It's a supporting part, not a lead role.
