  1. Since McKenzie has permitted significant alteration of the Odile choreography as recently as Spring 2015, I don't see why the Odile choreography should be a reason to foreclose Abrera from the role. Same rules must be applied to all. As noted above, when Kent was doing O/O she made signficant alterations to the role to suit a diminished level of technique.

  3. Faux Pas, from your lips to McKenzie's ears. I would be there in a heartbeat to see Abrera as Juliet and O/O no matter who her partner is. I don't think they will cast her as Aurora. They need her for Lilac. I'm also looking forward to some pairings of Boylston with Lendorf. I hope McKenzie is moving in the direction of having Lendorf as a regular partner for Boylston.

  5. I think a lot of people attended New York City PNB performances in the recent past, in part, to see Korbes. She was beloved by many NYC balletomanes. Now that she is gone, I have to wonder whether there will be an impact on box office receipts for this upcoming engagement. In addition to conflicting with the Mother Ship and the Mariinsky Raymonda in nearby Washington DC, this engagement also conflicts with the annual visit of the esteemed Vienna Philharmonic to Carnegie Hall, with Gergiev conducting.
  6. Here is the press release from City Center on its 15-16 season. No MCB, except for an appearance in September with Fall For Dance. http://www.nycitycenter.org/content/misc/PressRelease-Season16.pdf

    Stella Abrera

Back to Stella- she and Hammoudi looked terrific last night dancing with the Emery LeCrone company. I have not been a Hammoudi fan in the past, but he did an excellent job with his solos and partnering work. Stella was sublime. I was less enthusiastic about Williams and Janzen, but in fairness, I suspect they had very little rehearsal time together since Williams was a very last minute replacement to this program.

Also appearing with the LeCrone Company will be Russell Janzen (NYCB), Hammoudi (ABT) and STephanie Williams (ABT). Stephanie Williams is a late addition, filling in for Sara Mearns. (Per Mearns' twitter account, she has withdrawn from these performances with the LeCrone company.)

  11. I can definitely understand why they would not use "blackface" but I don't quite get the objection to bronzer. Large numbers of people use self tanning and bronzers. .
  12. On The Town will close on Sept. 6, according to the NY Times.

It's an “explosion of pure joy” (David Rooney, The Hollywood Reporter) with "the best dancing on Broadway" (Ben Brantley of The New York Times on NPR). Featuring eye popping sets and gorgeous costumes, ON THE TOWN has "a rapturous and red blooded score" (Joe Dziemianowicz, Daily News) by Leonard Bernstein, one of America's greatest composers, brilliantly played by a 28 piece orchestra - the biggest on Broadway. This hit musical comedy is "everything a great show should be!" (Terry Teachout, The Wall Street Journal). 16. OMG. Get well soon Birdsall. What a terrible ordeal.
  17. I'm guessing that Kent would return in some capacity to ABT. Based ont the Paloma interviews I've read, she does not seem eager to continue in any way with ballet in general or ABT in particular.
  18. I finally got a chance to see this exhibit. A spectacular show. See it if you can.
  19. I think they have held back from sale most of the available orchestra seats for the Somogyi farewell. Additionally, I noticed on their website yesterday that there is a special going on for people paying with Mastercard, so some of those seats may have been blocked of from sale for that reason. I think that they may try to play the dynamic pricing game for the Somogyi farewell.
  20. Karen Uphoff has retired. Her photo is removed from the ABT website.
  21. Given his vision issues, how likely is it that Filin will be able to secure a similar position elsewhere. Essentially, this criminal act of blinding him has robbed him of his vision, as well as future employment options. I hope I'm wrong and that he can obtain a good position elsewhere. Awful in every way.
  22. Here's the lineup http://www.nycitycenter.org/tickets/productionNew.aspx?performanceNumber=9020#.VbkN-xbv5c4
  23. Given his acting ability, I would be interested to see Roman Zhurbin dance "Death" in Green Table. Putting Company B on fifty percent of the programs is a big negative for me. So far I have avoided purchasing any tickets to programs with that work as part of the bill. They are overloading the season with Company Bt and to a lesser extent, the Green Table. In contrast, why so few performances of Valse Fantasie and Piano Concerto.
  24. This is the earliest they have ever announced casting for a fall season. I guess they want to bring in the $$$$ ASAP from those who were holding out for casting.
