  1. The Mariinsky lost its Fille...? Wow...didn't know that. When did that happen...? http://en.wikipedia....mal_gard%C3%A9eThis will answer your question and a reconstruction of the original Petipa is possible since the Sergeyev collection in Harvard, has all the information, as was used by Vikharev in Coppelia, Sleeping Beauty, La Bayadere and Raymonda. A reconstruction La Fille would be a great substitute for new dances at Mariinsky. What a shame. it looks as if the Mariinsky did keep the Gorsky after Petipa version in various incarnations up until 1995, being Vinogradov the last soul to care for it. They DEININITELY need to reclaim what's theirs by all means without getting into another Raymonda-like event.
  2. K. Sergueiev's choreo is engraved too deep already. There's no way out I think...(but then so it was his Beauty, and still the reconstruction went on)
  3. Unnecesary to me-(at least in each and every single performance I've seen it). Can live with it if pointes are not mixed in the equation though. Otherwise, silver bullet with it.
  4. One can't have a grand stairs climbing in the Arsht, and the whole thing looks like a spaceship. Ironically, the Dade County Auditorium had a mid-century charm, although I agree it was inadequate for the ballet and opera performances.
  5. The Kravis definitely wins over the irrational monstruosity that is the Arsht Center. I like The Broward Center too...very warm and with lots of green covering it, but the Kravis is definitely the winner.
  6. ABT did a couple of seasons in Miami back where they presented Swan Lake in 2007 and Kirkland's Beauty the following year, three performances each-(I remember being unimpressed with Reyes and Willes'Auroras and Part's Lilac and loving Nancy Raffa's Carabosse). For the folowing year they announced a run of Giselle-(which got me very excited), but it was cancelled. After that they never returned. Agree about the Kravis. Great viewing whenever you seat. I'm in for whatever they will do, so welcome!

  8. My pleasure, Paul. There's a very interesting interview of Alonso in which she recollects and compares some of her Albrechts-(Dolin, Youskevitch, Eglevsky and Bruhn), and the way her role as a ballerina played in relationship with her partner's technique and experience. I remember she said that she said that about Giselle she felt that she was being completely conducted by Dolin but in the same, exchangeable way with Youskevitch and Bruhn, and that it wasn't until she reached 40 that she started feeling in charge of the partnership in the ballet. Interesting indeed.
  9. Another gift from Nick Wallace. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HK1S9U7ddTg&list=UUE2E47z60O23-Z0Dd6zJKjA&index=10&feature=plcp
  10. Just thought of adding this piece of info I just read... "[skeaping]-also included the controversial fugue in Act II - she regarded the narrative during the fugue as central to the ballet’s conflict between the supernatural and the religious. At this point in the ballet, Myrtha, Queen of the Wilis, sends wave after wave of wilis (a species of vampire women who died having been jilted by faithless lovers) to lure Albrecht from the safety of the cross on Giselle's grave." http://www.ballet.co...enb_giselle.htm
  11. Thanks Gina for the heads up. Now, where's that "Surprise me" button..? I want to see that pic..!
  12. Ah, Miss Bubbles the secretary..yes! She was hilarious! Has anybody seen the latest Streep's..?
  13. Now, I WANT to see Nerina's Coppelia...!! (Gotta get me one of those multi-regions machines...definitely).
  14. The issue being here that this Apollo, just like every single staging done in Havana, from Giselle to William Dollar's "Le Combat", has had a carbon-copy continuity from its very first performances.
  15. Perhaps Kschesinskaya's goat was trained to do something onstage in Esmeralda...? I recall reading in "Imperial Dancer" that it was a very well behaved, trainable animal.
  16. Well, it was not such accident per se. The story goes that the Trust send Alonso a formal notice asking her 1-To remove her 40's, unlicensed version, and 2-To aquire a license to restage the modern one, to which she responded..."No way, Jose!". There is also a "Waltz Academy" roaming around over there in the same chord, FYI... So, to be certain...will I see at least the stairs in MCB Apollo...?
