  1. as per Russian site of Bolshoi http://www.bolshoi.ru/ru/season/press-serv...x.php?id26=1430 It'll be Ruben Muradian (?) dancing on 18th and 20th of Feb, and not Egor Khromushin. and it'll be Maria Allash, and not Zaharova on 16th, 19th and 21st. And the Bolshoi site lists Krysanova, no Shipulina. No English equivalent of the announcement, but wanted to let you know

  4. OMG, what an injustice (ok, granted that i hadn't seen them dancing that role, but still) - what a disgrace.... anyway, i am voting with my (hard-earned) money, and am skipping Somova's performances in DC... G-d please, keep the announced cast in tact, or please bring Obraztsova
  5. I just bought mine, Openning night with Vishneva & Fadeev, Sat. with Tereshkina & Shklyarov, and Sunday closing. Ah, let's have bets about them keeping the casting as announced.
  6. http://ballettalk.invisionzone.com/index.php?showtopic=30311 http://www.roh.org.uk/whatson/production.a...mp;header=image She'll dance on Oct 31 (1:30pm), Nov. 14th (7pm)
  7. it's Вероника in Russian, and can be spelled either way, so no biggie, i guess
  8. call me old-fashioned, but i didn't like the staging & decorations. I watched its broadcast at Lincoln Center (and i didn't see the previous production Tosca - alas). I loved the MUSIC and singing. But where decorations went? Such minimalism, and too much "-"EX. I know it sells, but if i want to see an adult movie, i'd rent one, i don't expect to watch it in the opera. And Tosca's decolte was too low to my taste (that sometimes, i wondered whether an accident would happen, instead of enjoying the singing). But the MUSIC and those VOICES and acting - great.
  9. I found the link to this video at Mariinsky.org (primarily Russian), but since it has such terrific footage of rehearsals (oh that strong great corps de ballet !!!), and Sultry Big Red (Kandauorova) dancing a spanish dancer, and Oganesian, and rehearsal of Nioradze and Tereshkina..... at Orange county PS: and Lopatkina in Giselle - wonderful....... only sad that Fateev adores NY City ballet "leg" work as he said... (though in my first viewing i watched and not followed his words)..... Enjoy, i surely did http://www.dancechanneltv.com/index.php?op...&video_id=9
  10. I got there at 9:35 and got to the ticket window only at 4;15 - 6.5 hr wait - increadible, don't know how i did it. But all my friends & I got tickets. I bet if people came to the ticket windows prepared (like myself) instead of lengthy deliberation, which show is better? which time is better, what would you recommend _ heard it, while already waiting inside (the lady took 10 minutes to complete her order ;-((, it would have made the ticket office sales QUICKER. But you can't change people. And i personally can't put up with paying 60% servicing fee.
  11. i rest my case yes, Let's not attend ANY ballet that doesn't meet Political correctness of 21st centrury norms PS: after reading bart's reply (posted after mine)..... I love America !!!!!
  12. Dear forum, After attending the Monday meeting with Burlaka and later learning that it's the Kennedy Center that decides what to bring on a tour, and with confirmation about a 10-year agreement that Bolshoi would visit DC annually.......... Let's voice our preferences and then send a letter / petition to Mr. Schwarzman (Chairman) & Mr. Kaiser, President to bring ballets we die for (and will be paying as patrons) Just an idea
  13. I would be appalled if a choreographer today were to create such a character, but this is a reconstruction, and I think it's important to keep it as close as possible to the original. Would I have felt uncomfortable, maybe even offended, to see it? Most likely. But I would not want this historical reconstruction to be sanitized to suit some modern sensibilities, even though I recognize the danger of reinforcing certain bigotries. my two cents - i didn't notice any obvious anti-semitism. Only reading THIS thread made me realize that Isaac and his nose CAN be of semitic origin. For me it was a greedy old character. And the nose can just emphasize the age, like that beard of Sultan/ Pasha. and somehow nobody defends a cute way of showing muslims praying? Sorry, don't want to turn the thread into a ethnics/ethics discussion. I'd recommend that people attended the talk with Burlaka, that would have answered a lot of questions. I wish it was published. Their goal was to RESTORE as much as possible and as closely as possible. Sad about Osipova (but it still doesn't change my "falling out"). Natalia, Krysanova was MUCH better than at dress-rehearsal, there were some glitches (but then - no Bolshoi-in- DC Medora was perfect to my taste, each had cons & pros ;-)).......
  14. I think that I predicted this one right. May be i am growing OUT of admiration for Osipova, but i want to THANK Shipulina. she did FOUR performances, and let me dare to say that Bolshoi's Le Corsaire's Medora is more tenous than La Sulfide or Giselle. So, She managed to pull two performances back-to-back. But we'd never know for sure what really happened - to delight everyone - Osipova didn't look injured or strained (not like poor Fadeyev).............. Isn't there a theme, Osipova/Visheva - trying to get as many ABT performances and running out of steam/or time to perform with the home company. But it's not for me to judge ;-)) PS: I liked them all, but i'd agree with Hans, i liked Gulnara better than Medora
  15. I will report more later, just answer some comments in prior posts. I think i am lucky because with my "gamble" i ended up seeing all 3 leading balerinas. Rehearsal, Tuesday, Sat. & Sund matinee (and I don't have the favorite, they were just all different, same about male leads) (PS: my favorite Medora is TERESHKINA!!!! by a huge margin)..... PSPS: I LOVED the ballet overall, the whole company felt more relaxed and at ease on Sunday. Every day, the soloist were wonderful, Anastasia Goryacheva, Denis Medvedev, 3 Odalisks, Nina Kaptsova (Gulnara), and Zibrova (favorite wife), are the best, I didn't see Krysanova dancing Gulnara but heard she was heavenly. And all other characters - what a show.... THANK you Burlaka!!!!!!! It was Osipova who missed that entry in the Garden sciene (when corps were frozen still) (I kept an eye on Sunday). Her fuete travelled, and you're right about Vasiliev, he mislanded in his second jump, and i am not sure of the 3rd (since my seat cut it off), he didn't seem confident with other jumps that followed. He was the Most passionate pirate and acted with most abandon. Their last sciene was not "convenional" - too much hugging and no "praise to the lord" for saving them and they jumped off their knees too early before the curtain fell completely (looked awkward). I don't think either of them injured themselves. Osipova DID look exhosted when she went out to greet fans at back stage door. But neither of them limped or showed any sign of pain when they finally departed together. A coach when asked about the casting change "politically correctly" responded that Osipova didn't feel well. What really happened i guess is at Burlaka & Osipova & Vasiliev conscience. Praise to Shipulina & Scvortsov for stepping in.... more later.
  16. It was not "let's drink" it was "NA ABORDAZH" (На Абордаж), which is from the dictionary - "a way to attack a hostile sail boat, by means of closely approaching, docking at and boarding the hostile ship. The attacking crew jumps over/board the other ship" About your friend (no offense), but may be she was off that night. I personally can watch the classical Petipa (or a-la Petipa) steps over & over, especially so perfectly & musically executed. where every musical tone & beat has a step or movement to it. Bravo Burlaka!!
  17. I saw Gracheva but didn't know that it was her (confirmed after checking her photos). I talked with a wonderful Anastasia Goryacheva, who hopes to still dance in DC (there was a minor mishap with a leg (or foot) in NC, but doctors confirmed nothing serious), and she said that Nikulina didn't go due to some ailment/ minor injury ;-((. I adore Burlaka and his direction for the company, what a blessing for me (a CLASSICAL (Petipa preferred) story ballets with dancers from HARD-core centuries-old-traditions ballet schools)) more later
  18. I liked Osipova and Part (that's why i went), but i DON"T LIKE ABT's staging of Giselle (having seen 3 Mariinsky's Giselles in DC in 2006 and 3 in Chicago just last October). I liked the way Mariinsky's story developes better. The Mother is just a mother, not a patronizing & forbid-everything monster, BOYS bringing the tables in and out (its boys' job to carry heavy stuff, especially in 19th centrury), court retiring to rest, Albreht kisses Bathilde's hand, 24 (Twenty Four) willies on tour, better introduction of Willies, Myrtha HAVING and USING the magic wand (that glitters) (that breaks because of Giselle's love, (not tossed as in ABT), less cluttered forest (it's cemetery in ABT), willies disappering right after the sun rises, not fillandering for too long, better pleading of Giselle and multiple offering of flowwers, her giving flowers from the air (standing on a-la-balcony) and a MUCH LONGER farewell dance of the soloist. PS: the Borzois (hunting dogs - were impressive) I liked the technical aspect of Osipova, Hallberg & Part, but the performance DIDN'T move me, not a single tear (while i was weeping at Mariinsky's).......... off the DC to catch the Bolshoi
  19. Well, to not add oil to the fire, but still remind about "justice"..... Osipova was scheduled to dance La Sulpide TWICE on 6/17 and then 6/19, but when the Bolshoi was not happy about ABT scheduling her without their prior consent, her 6/19 was cancelled. I guess, it's pretty righteous to schedule her back at an earlier date, plus she'd dance on Saturday, 6/13. So, the earlier arrangement of THREE performances is being restored. And Osipova was dancing La Sulphide at Bolshoi many times being couched by Koborg...... I will try to see her cramming it between my trips to DC to watch Bolshoi's Corsaire
  20. just came across with it ;-)) sorry that it's all in russian, but great dancing, and on OFFICIAL site of Mariinski. Adore Tereshkina's interpretation of Juliet and how she prepared, got tears in my eyes at the end. Loved the words of their coach "I teach them not to dance with the music, but to DANCE THE MUSIC" http://www.mariinsky.ru/news1/media/ and Lopatkina with Chistyakova http://www.mariinsky.ru/news1/media/lopatkina Humpback rehearsals - http://www.mariinsky.ru/news1/media/konyok Enjoy, i surely DID
  21. Well, with prices 50% higher than before, and after being awarded some recognition for cooperation between Russia & America, and his wife gave Mr. Danilian flowers...... what a disgrace i felt, when there were NO FLOWERS whatsoever, on the openning night in NYC on May 29. How cheap he is. When Marriinsky was here, and they didn't give flowers on every night, his response was that they give flowers only for openning nights. But 2009 recession and greed deprived the dancers of flowers... (in addition to not bringing coaches and susbstitutes in case of injuries).... alas sorry for pouring it here, i will send Mr. Danilian my letter of disapproval as well.
  22. That was very clear at the time, although at the time, it was a direct conflict. WHoops, sad, there will be no Nikulina - sad.... Well, i might end up watching Osipova & Vasiliev twice.
  23. I doubt Lopatkina would dance Aurora. Several years ago, she danced Lilac Fairy with Vishneva dancing Aurora. A wish to come true - Obraztsova as Aurora & Lopatkina as Fairy, and Shklyarov as Prince ;-)) one can wish ;-))
  24. Just wanted to share what i read in the article, Fateev's interview http://www.times.spb.ru/index.php?action_i...;story_id=28987 mid article "This year we are taking Sergeyev’s production of “The Sleeping Beauty” for our overseas tours to Taipei, London, Baden Baden, and Washington next year." But don't kill me if it doesn't happen
  25. Just read in the russian media - HOW SAD Ekaterina Maksimova passed away
