  1. But then he was part of DC roster, he did show up, didn't he? very strange indeed.
  2. The casts will be announced on the day of, 1 hour prior to the commencement of the performances .
  3. Semionova latest Uniqlo TV spot just aired as the Met season's just around the corner:
  4. Katherine, what casts do we expect NBoC to bring to NYC based on Toronto casting?

I asked because I am going to see him in one of the ballets in my upcoming European trip. I have no idea if he will guest for ABT, if he ends up on ABT guest list, it's purely a coincidence.

Does anyone know anything about him? The only thing I know is he's with Ukraine National Ballet.
  7. ABT will be doing T&V, Pillar of Fire, & Push at Kenn Cen, and in Chicago Bach Partita, Sinatra Suite, Clark Tippet’s Some Assembly Required, and Fancy Free. So I assume all or some of them will make appearance at the State Theater.
  8. ABT: 10/3-5 2014 DTH: 11/21-23 2014 Grupo Corpo: 2/28-3/1/15 Tango Buenos Aires: 1/25/15 Alvin Ailey: 3/6-15 2015 Eifman Ballet: 3/8-10 2015 Royal Ballet: 6/18-21 2015 http://www.auditoriumtheatre.org/pages/home/performances-events/2014-15-season.php
  9. It depends on whether the tour is part of Lincoln Center Festival. LCF announced its lineup in March in the past but it's January this year. If the tour is not part of LCF, it's up to the touring company, i.e. Mik announced its Nov. NYC tour last month. Bolshoi announced its NYC schedule, then removed it from its website and put it back after LCF announcement, it seems LCF request its participants not to announce their lineups until LCF does. LCF usually starts early July after its resident companies finish their annual residencies, if RB comes to NYC immediately after Chicago, it may not be part of LCF.
  10. RB will be in Chicago June 18-21 with Don Q: http://www.auditoriumtheatre.org/pages/home/performances-events/performances.php?event_id=520 NYC will be the last stop after Chicago. It seems RB will compete with ABT head on, my worst fear. I have to choose between NYCB and ABT early in the season, I really hate being forced to pick between 2 companies again. It will be ABT 75th anniversary season, I assume ABT will pull out all the stops.
  11. Someone spotted Mathias Heymann just north of Union Square, a block or 2 from ABT HQ when he's in town for YAGP. I wonder if he had a meeting at ABT. Or he just happened to be in the hood? Last minute guests are not uncommon at ABT. Or it could be nothing, that area is very popular with visitors anyway.
  12. I just checked LCF website if castings were announced (not yet) but found out the Tsar's Bride and Swan Lake are sold out already, while only 4th ring seats are available for Don Q and Spartacus, except Don Q Wed. matinee still has limited seats available in all sections.
  13. Don't know where to put this, ABT PR must be in high gear timed for the Met season. Profile of Gomes' apartment: http://www.nytimes.com/2014/04/13/realestate/marcelo-gomes-the-dancer-at-home-in-hells-kitchen.html?_r=0 Didn't know he and Vishneva rehearsed Camellia for 5 months the debut.
  14. http://www.nytimes.com/2014/04/08/arts/music/operatic-drama-swells-in-met-labor-talks.html?hp&_r=0 The contracts expire at the end of July, so the ABT season is safe. $200,000 per year for a chorus member. WOW.
  15. MB posted pictures of Sylvia on its FB page, the set and costume appear to be the same as ABT/RB's:
  16. The Canadian screening was canceled is it because NBoC also holds the North American cinematic right?
  17. So all the TBAs are now announced, and 6/7 matinee Manon is designated as Vishneva's 10th anniversary celebration.
  18. Occupy Garnier: http://news.yahoo.com/workers-occupy-paris-opera-protest-220838721.html
  19. CA Flame of Paris casting now posted: http://www.mikhailovsky.ru/en/afisha/tours/the_mikhailovsky_theatre_on_tour_in_usa/ 11/28 Oksana Bondareva, Ivan Vasiliev 11/29 2pm Anjelina Vorontsova, Ivan Zaytsev 11/29 8pm Oksana Bondareva, Ivan Vasiliev 11/30 Anjelina Vorontsova, Ivan Vasiliev

  21. I am confused, if the tour is going to be at Coliseum as the title indicates, why the casting is published at ROH site?
  22. I went to box office during early lunch break. They're aware of the discount but unable to apply it because the ticketing system hadn't been updated. So they reserved my seats and swiped my credit card, once the discount is updated in the system, they'll issued my tickets. I hope there won't be any snafus.
  23. ABT's Nut to leave BAM after Dec. 2014 at the end of the 5 five year run. The production will move to the left coast at Segerstrom in Dec. 2015: http://www.nytimes.com/2014/03/17/arts/dance/new-york-will-lose-ballet-theaters-nutcracker.html?hpw&rref=arts&_r=0 I am going to miss ABT's Nut, and I hope it'll return someday.

The Ballet Company did not become a permanent fixture at the theater overnight, however: it was a gradual process that began in 1918, when the Mikhailovsky Theatre shifted its focus from drama to musical theater. Even before the Ballet Company was officially founded by Fyodor Lopukhov in 1933, the theater played host to some significant events that are now considered an important part of world ballet history. In 1923, the young Giorgi Balanchivadze, who later changed his name to George Balanchine, staged dances in Rimsky-Korsakov’s opera The Golden Cockerel at the theater. It was there that the renowned ballet The Bright Stream to Dmitry Shostakovich’s score was first staged in 1935 by Lopukhov. At various times in its history the following outstanding Russian ballet masters have taken the helm of the Mikhailovsky Ballet Company: Leonid Lavrovsky, Pyotr Gusev, Igor Belsky, Konstantin Boyarsky, Oleg Vinogradov, Nikolai Boyarchikov, Farukh Ruzimatov, and Nacho Duato. At present, the Company’s Ballet Master in Chief is Mikhail Messerer. Mikhailovsky Ballet is a young, thriving company that effortlessly combines classical traditions with a modern look, and does not shy away from creative experiments. The Company’s Principal Dancers include world-class stars, as well as recent graduates from Russia’s top ballet schools and academies. Tickets are: Orchestra & 1st Ring $29, $55, $89, $129 & $149; 2nd & 3rd Ring $29, $55, $89 &$129; 4th Ring $55, $89, & $129. 25. Vasiliev is scheduled to dance DQ with ABT in DC on 4/20, let's see if he's going to show without the "O" factor. Actually I agree with you that she's an excellent Gamzatti, my earlier comment may be a little catty. A world class principal for a up-and-coming soloist just doesn't seem like an even trade to me. May be ABT threw in Susan Jones (to stage Sylvia for MB) as a sweetener.
