  1. A preview of Swan Lake 4 female leads from NYT: http://www.nytimes.com/2015/01/11/arts/dance/mariinsky-ballerinas-talk-about-starring-in-swan-lake.html?ref=dance
  2. Thanks for the alert. I'll have my streaming capture app ready.
  3. Jan 20 Cinderella casting finally posted on BAM: Nadezhda Batoeva, Vladimir Shklyarov, Ekaterina Kondaurova http://www.bam.org/dance/2015/cinderella
  4. He was personally involved in that staging. Strangely enough, though he insisted that the POB could not dance Palais, but only Symphony in C in black and white costumes, he apparently had no objections to the Mariinsky's costumes. I remember seeing a Russian TV feature from the premiere, at which he was present and spoke glowingly of the company. He also approved Tatiana Terekhova as repetiteur of the piece, even though she'd never danced it, and a few years later she staged the ballet for the Bolshoi, though they performed it in (rather tinselly) black and white costumes. I found pictures of the Mariinsky's version, the color schemes didn't extend to corps: 1st movement:Somova & Fadeyev 2nd movement: Lopatkina & Korsuntsev 3rd movement: Obraztsova & Shklyarov 4th movement: Shirinkina & Timofeyev
  5. If you donate, donate directly to companies. If I pick up calls that I want to get off, "It's not a good time to talk as I am driving on a highway." Always works.
  6. I meant there're no Sat. matinee shows. Do they really need that much time for a set change? Met can field 2 productions on Sat. matinee and evening. Mariinsky's SL set is not that complicated, it's all fly flats.
  7. I only found out about the additional shows here, you think BAM would send emails to members, subscribers, and all those who have bought tickets about the new shows. I and my friends didn't receive any alerts from BAM. There were many gaps in the original schedule, now that they added Jan 20 & 25, I am still wondering whey they don't perform on Sat. evenings.
  8. I think you hit the nail on the head re ticket sales, fondoffouttes. I happen to like this Nutcracker very much but even I have not attended every year. I think I went 2 years in a row then took a break then went back last year. I would have probably taken a break this year too had it not been their final season. I know this may be heresy but I'd grown a bit bored with the Balanchine Nutcracker and haven't attended in years, although I do have a recording that I'll watch just to see Bouder as Dewdrop. And I whole heartedly admit that a holiday trip to Lincoln Center for Nutcracker is much more magical than a trip to BAM. 9 of the 13 performances sold out, so don't understand where all the talks of poor box office coming from. And I paid full price for all of mine. I am sad to see this production left NY, hopefully it'll return in a few years. I quite like the setting of BAM, it has a neighborhood feel, surrounded by historical districts, and with all the restaurants, cafes, and shops just short strolls from the theater. The story could have set in one of those brownstones in the neighborhood.
  9. So far there're 7 sold outs that I know of, and 3 of them belongs to Misty, actually all of her Nuts are sold outs. If she can maintain her box office draw during the Met season, I'd expect promotion announcement soon after the Met season.
  10. Procrastinators you have less than 2 hours to put in a subscription or you may be subject to dynamic pricing starting tomorrow.
  11. Except the exchange rate! Wasn't CAD higher than USD not long ago? And you can add 2 single tickets for each your subscription program at 15% off. Long wait on the phone but got thru eventually.

  19. Thanks, I thought it's simulcast on TV. Many simulcasts end up on DVD, I hope it will be the case. Blessed Aussies.
  20. Do you have a link? Which channel? I have a friend there, he's not a ballet fan but I can ask if he can DVR the performance and transfer it to DVD for me. I'd be more than happy to share if he comes thru.
  21. Box office opens 8/18 Mon. I am also disappointed that Part and Gomes are not in the roster for the BAM season.
  22. The first version was le Jeune Homme et la Mort, Gomes world premier, and Kingdom of the Shades. Later the Gomes piece was gone. Then it's totally revised to Carmen with Ballet San Jose and some other pas des deux. Finally, it's Solo for 2. O/V's program changes were chronicled in this thread: http://balletalert.invisionzone.com/index.php?/topic/36955-scfta-dance-season-13-14/
  23. Vishneva & Shklyarov in Mariinsky's R&J to be released, it's already available for preorder at Amazon UK site but not the US site yet: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00M1562VS?ie=UTF8&tag=culturevult05-21&linkCode=as2&camp=1634&creative=19450&creativeASIN=B00M1562VS Osipova & Acosta in RB's Giselle is now available for preorder, as mentioned in another thread: http://www.amazon.com/Giselle-Blu-ray-Natalia-Osipova/dp/B00M428E4G/ref=sr_1_3?s=movies-tv&ie=UTF8&qid=1407719713&sr=1-3&keywords=osipova
  24. Sometimes it's not up to the film director and producer to air the footage uninterrupted. When the permission to use the footage is granted, it may attach a condition that the footage be adulterated, i.e. with voice over.
  25. I don't know if City Center postpones Sf2 to August, 2015. The website is sill listing it but no longer selling tickets: http://www.nycitycenter.org/tickets/productionNew.aspx?performanceNumber=8238#.U-gPzY1OWUl When you click on the drop box for one of the two dates, it forwards the calendar to August and lists as "no availability."
