  1. That particular piece of Joplin is not used in Elite Syncopations, in fact.
  2. has a new website: http://www.guillaumecote.ca/
  3. I recently visited the NBOC wardrobe department, who are busy building John Neumeier's Nijinsky for performances in March. The wardrobe people inspire me with awe. NBOC is one of the very few companies in N America who have a major in-house wardrobe production department, and other companies rent their productions. If you see Onegin (either the new version or the old one) in Houston, Boston, San Francisco, or at ABT, or Merry Widow, The Dream, Cranko's Romeo and Juliet and Taming of the Shrew, La Fille mal Gardee and many others just about anywhere in North America (I'm guessing ABT's Month in the Country next May too), you are seeing the excellent handiwork of the NBOC. For my full report, please visit my blog post.
  4. The blond in Diamonds pdd and Divertimento is Heather Ogden, guesting from the National Ballet of Canada where she is a principal. Irrelevantly, but a piece of trivia you might like to know, she is married to NBOC Principal and "King of the Dance" Guillaume Coté.
  5. I saw Lacarra in Neumeier's Swan Lake in Munich this past April and she was brilliant. She's 37. Cyril Pierre danced in Song of the Earth.
  6. Principal casting for the Toronto fall season of Wheeldon's ballet has just been announced. See details here.
  7. Canadian dancer Matthew Golding, a principal with Dutch National Ballet, former YAGP winner, has just been awarded a Dutch "Zwaan" award for most impressive dance achievement in 2012. Some of you may have seen him on DNB's Don Quixote or Nutcracker videos. You can find a great short video portrait (including his beyootiful turns) here.

    Guillaume Cote

Guillaume answers questions tweeted in from his fans: http://national.ballet.ca/thecompany/principals/Guillaume_C%C3%B4t%C3%A9/#QA-tab
  9. odd that they only give Onegin Tatiana performers and not Lensky Olga as well.
  10. The Kennedy Center is offering 20% off on orchestra seats for October 16 and 17. Info here.
  11. Here's info on the NBOC contestants: Emma Hawes was born in Delaware, Ohio. She trained at the BalletMet's Dance Academy in Columbus, Ohio and Canada’s National Ballet School and became a member of the Corps de Ballet in 2011. Brendan Saye was born in Vancouver, British Columbia. He trained at Canada’s National Ballet School and in 2008, became a YOU dance Apprentice. Brendan joined The National Ballet of Canada in 2009. Recently, he danced the role of Romeo in the world premiere of Romeo and Juliet by Alexei Ratmansky and Horatio in the North American premiere of Hamlet by Kevin O’Day. He also made his debut as an Icicle in The Nutcracker. While a student at Canada’s National Ballet School, he was the recipient of both the Peter Dwyer Award and Christopher Ondaatje Prize.
  12. Pittsburgh is doing Lilac Garden in March.
  13. Grigory Popov is currently guesting with Ballet Jorgen in Canada (a small touring company), where he gets to dance Siegfried in their new Swan Lake.
  14. I think you've made your point re Oksana Skorik, Tiara.

    Roberto Bolle

The French Danse magazine has just published a lavishly illustrated 5-page interview (in French) with Roberto Bolle: http://www.robertobolle.com/immagini/stampa/170_Danse.pdf
  17. Forsythe was mentioned, and so were Ratmansky and Millepied, but not as being "in the running", just the journalist's (bizarre, in my opinion) wish list of people who should apply or should be asked to apply. The ones that are really "in the running" are Hilaire, Le Riche, and probably Legris. Interesting that the article didn't mention a single woman as a possible candidate.
  18. There's a nice photo gallery here: http://www.for-ballet-lovers-only.com/san-francisco-ballet-2012.html
  19. Here's a video introducing DNB's new dancers. DNB makes fantastic videos, and I recommend you check out their YouTube channel. <iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/Ov4-TXLS-_Q?list=UUQwivh_1ZEgqOyGilx-WIMg&hl=en_US" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> [Can someone explain to me why the embed feature seems to work sometimes on this site and not others?]

    Aurelie Dupont

The POB etoile has announced to a Japanese dance magazine that her farewell performance will be Manon with Josua Hoffalt, sometime in January 2014.
  21. Asymmetrical...symmetrical... aren't they the same thing? Surely what you meant was "a symmetrical"! I saw "Pointy shoes" in the Toronto Star once, but I don't know whether the original writer, the copy editor, or the spellchecker was to blame.
  22. You're welcome. Yeah, they cracked me up too. I feel sorry for anyone who works in communications for the "Camembert Dance Company"!
  23. Has anyone had an experience with this that they can share? http://atrium.lincolncenter.org/index.php/day-of-discount-tickets i.e. availability, seat location, etc.
