  5. does anyone recall a gala benefit by/for the National Ballet in 1973 at City Center in ny? it appears at least part of sleeping beauty was done and there was some celebrity casting; Arlene Francis was the lilac fairy, Gwen Verdon was red riding hood, Julie Newmar was the white cat and Paulette Goddard the queen. i know i'm reaching a little far back -
  6. I felt so badly for him....and I can't imagine his Juliet was very pleased.
  7. Not exactly the same, but this rather reminds me of when they brought Carla Fracci back at age 55 to do one Giselle with Julio Bocca. http://www.nytimes.com/1991/06/09/arts/review-dance-giselle-as-interpreted-by-italy-s-carla-fracci.html
  8. And yes, I know that bourree has 2 r's. But can someone take this onto the student board? She's evidently "branching out" into ballet instructional videos via an app.

  10. I think he was in his late 60s or thereabouts.
  11. Nowhere near as many ballet memorabilia sellers as there used to be (in fact I only ever knew the private dealers, and then of course there was the Ballet Shop when it was there. There are some music related ones like Schubertiade that do it; they are in Massachusetts I think. Mostly if they sell/sold arts related/theater/opera, they sold ballet also. And then of course the larger houses like Christie's, Sotheby's, Doyle, etc., but a collection would have to be historically fairly impressive for them to take it on. There are still a couple of private sellers on eBay who deal in Elssler/Taglioni etc. era things and more. They're pretty easy to find.
  12. Tobias Leibovitz, well known to ballet fans the world over as the owner/manager of the Ballet Shop, passed away on August 7. There has not been an obituary but I post this having come from his funeral yesterday. I may have some further detail from the family within a few days, but wanted this as a short mention for those who knew him and the shop for lo those many years.
  13. A rehearsal of the Mordkin Ballet that features Patricia Bowman, Lucia Chase, Nina Stroganova, and Karen Conrad.
  14. Evidently British Movietone and the Associated Press have put their archives on Youtube, and there are a lot of gems in there! I have a question for the sleuths on the board. This is a film of London Festival Ballet in the 1960s doing a small segment of Bourree Fantasque (most of the films are fairly short). The first couple we see (short tutu) is Anna-Marie and David Holmes. Anyone have an idea about the second couple?
  15. yikes indeed. so he has to put makeup on his hands???
