Orlando Ballet announces Mr Bujones is ill
glebb replied to nlkflint's topic in Ballet News & Issues
We took class together at Millenoff's in Miami as boys. Fernando was and will always be an enormous inspiration to me, my family and the entire dance community. He is the type of guy who remembers everyone. Not a moment of today will go by that I don't send him my wishes and highest hopes of a very quick and complete recovery. -
She was gorgeous in 1st movement of Tchaikovsky Suite No 3.

I'm so sorry to hear this news. Ross was a very sweet, kind friend in our Joffrey days together. I danced with his wife in A Wedding Bouquet. I went to ABT's Fokine program today. What a day of nostalgia.

Can't wait! -
3 women are on pointe. The rest are in ballet slippers.

Thanks all for your thoughts. The choreography is indeed spectacularly unique. This is the first time in a long while that I have had ballet music on my mind instead of Wicked, Avenue Q or Pacific Overtures.

I don't know much more about this work of art except that I am quite moved by it. If anyone has any thoughts to share I would appreciate reading them.

I remember Lupe Serrano quite well as a performer and teacher. There was an ABT dancer - Gail Israel who had a great jump. In the 1970 ABT picture program she can be seen hanging in the air in a gorgeous split - pictured in Le Combat. Adding Joffrey dancers Calvin Kitten and Julianne Kepley to the list of best jumpers.

I agree with you Herman Stevens. Les Noces was sadly under rehearsed. There were many things in La Valse and Firebird that I would have worked on as well, but having never seen the Fokine version (and I agree that it must not have been 100 per cent Fokine - I doubt Tata wore silver nail polish too), it was still so good for me to see. PS I'm sorry I missed meeting you!

Memory serves you well indeed dirac. I too saw the fabulous Corsaire pas de deux of Kirkland and Nureyev at State Theatre, summer of 76. It was an ABT gala.

Greetings from Groningen! Joffrey receiving standing ovations. Saw Royal Ballet - Le Spectre, Kirov - Les Noces, La Valse and Firebird last night (also a local dancer in a modern version of L'Apres Midi). First time seeing Fokine version of Firebird and really loved it. I'm wondering if the scenery and costumes for the Kirov are true to the original or re-done based on the original designs. I loved them but they look reimagined to me. No matter, it was a perfect fairy tale.

My friend Carol Shults reports that the Ashton/Alexander Grant dance talk was heaven. Stories of Fonteyn rising up on a lift in ONDINE, and Ashton overdosing on martinis after a successful NY season. Will we get a more in depth report from you Watermill?

Thanks tempusfugit. I saw a wonderful revival of PACIFIC OVERTURES at the Promenade Theatre (76th St.?) back in the early 80s. It was fantastic. Chicago Shakespeare also did a superb production about two years ago. I would say my favorite Sondheims are: A LITTLE NIGHT MUSIC FOLLIES PACIFIC OVERTURES SWEENEY TODD COMPANY SUNDAY IN THE PARK WITH GEORGE INTO THE WOODS November will be a very busy work time for me, but I really want to try to get a weekend trip together. ROUNDABOUT THEATRE COMPANY seems to be my cup of tea. Were they not also responsible for the production of FOLLIES that I adored on Broadway about two years ago?

I actually got that wrong, it was Pavel's son Dimitry, a favorite of Nicholas and Alexandra who along with Felix Yusupov and others murdered Rasputin. I think Zenaida Yanowsky must be quite perfect as Alexandra Feodorovna. She comes close in coloring and her carriage is quite regal. Though I have only seen pictures of Svetlana Beriosova, I see a resemblance between she and Yanowsky.

Robert K. Massie states that the four Grand Duchesses were quite cloistered at Tsarskoe Selo. It is known that the Olga, Titianna, Maria and Anastasia wore Rasputin's image on their necklaces. It is believed that to the Imperial Family believed he was the holiest of men. We know that Nicholas and Alexandra were aware of St. Petersburg society's hatred for Grigory Effimovitch Rasputin. Pavel, a son of the Tsar's uncle, took a leading role in the mad monk's murder. This must have been quite a shock to the young Anastasia, who might have been unaware of any hatred towards the Imperial Family until that point.

Wanted to bump this up for you Silvy. You might want to check out Fred and Rita too! -
Egle will make her debut in Gerald Arpino's SECRET PLACES May 7.

Kchessinska did well. Her protector was the Tsar.

I liked Kozlova in "Symphony in C" too. What ever happened to Elise Ingals (sorry if spelled wrong)? She showed great promise.
