  1. Thanks Kate B. I have friends who were amazed at how good it was. They said the audience ate it up.
  2. Has anyone seen KAMMER/KAMMER by William Forsythe? Any information is appreciated but I would like to know specifically upon whom the rock star is based.
  3. He could often be seen sitting on the stairs (house left) near where the dancers stand in the first ring at State Theatre. The coat was huge. I still have a two set deck of playing cards he designed for the NYCB boutique - on one set was drawn a female dancer in "Rehearsal" and the other set "Performance." My mother used to have several of his books and I used to love the picture from 4 Ts where one of the dancers is wrong exiting the second theme. I saw "Gorey Stories" on broadway in previews. Gemze DeLappe was in the cast. I think it might have closed before opening night. Did anyone else here see it?
  4. Caught one of the final performances of The Goodman Theatres production of Edward Albees "The Goat or, Who is Sylvia?" last night. A great Halloween thing to do. Though most of it is done now I thought I would present the schedule of the festival for those interested. The Goodman/Albee schedule: The Goat or, Who is Sylvia? In the Albert September 27 through November 2 The Play About the Baby In the Oven September 20 through November 2 ONE ACTS: Program 1 The Zoo Story The Death of Bessie Smith October 21, October 26, November 1 Program 2 Box The Sandbox Finding the Sun October 23, October 26, November 1 Program 3 Marriage Play October 25, October 29, Novemeber 2 SPECIAL EVENTS An Evening with Edward Albee Monday October 13 7:00pm Acting Albee, October 27 7:00pm
  5. After the performance he and several other students were taken to meet the Tsar and Tsaritza. Balanchine described Alexandra Feodorovna as "Beautiful, beautiful. Like Grace Kelly."
  6. May I watch the Sylph jete across?
  7. My fortune? LOL! I know for a fact that I'll get the girl before midnight. Before midnight? Where am I? In which ballet am I?
  8. I'm putting on my red wig and kilt Do you think I'll see a Sylph? See you at the party.
  9. In A Concise History of Ballet by Ferdinando Reyna I see that Petipa created "La Fille du Pharaon" (his first work), for the last appearance of Carolina Rosati. I've always been interested in "La Fille du Pharaon" because of the Kschessinska/ Balanchine connection, and I've been interested in Rosati because it is my understanding she replaced Grahn in "Pas Des Deesses" after the first few performances.
  10. Can't wait for your review Tracey. I'm especially interested in reading about "Trapeze". If I remember correctly, it is a work with music by Prokofiev that Millicent Hodson has been interested in recontructing.

    Martine van Hamel

Ms Van Hammel taught and rehearsed a pas de deux from Bayadere to the contestants of the NYIBC last summer. I think she is still involved with ABT as well.

Dear Reinhard: I tried to Private Message you but because you are a fairly new member of BA I am not sure you have PM privileges as of yet. I'm sorry that I am unable to make a copy of the video. I use it at work, not at home. Too bad ballet companies cannot afford to produce performance videos for commercial release. Best, Glebb

    Jason Reilly

Jason will guest with Joffrey this week, dancing three performances of "Romeo & Juliet." His partner is new Joffrey dancer Victoria Jaiani. She has joined Joffrey after two years at the Joffrey School in NYC and she recently won a bronze medal at the NYIBC. I saw him in class and rehearsals today. Beautiful body, technique and personality. Can't wait to see him perform.

    Alexandra Ansanelli

I've not seen a lot of Ms Ansanelli, but I love what I have seen.

It is not a commercially available video. It is archival and used for study.
  16. Was it made originally made for Lotte Lenya? How cool would it have been to see her (Lotte) in "Cabaret?"
  17. Excellent! Wonderful new arrangements and Bette sounds divine.

Thank you for the greetings and the information Reinhard. Lucky you, being able to see the company so much. I am so happy to have been touched by the Stuttgart miracle. I saw the company at the MET not long after Crankos death and I'll never get over it. "Voluntaries" with it's original cast has never been topped. I actually got to take company class and would gladly have left for Germany that very day (if I had been invited.) Back in the 70s and 80s Joffrey Ballet did many Cranko ballets: "Opus One", "Pas de Deux Holberg", "Jeu De Cartes", "Broulliards", "Pineapple Poll", "Taming of the Shrew", "and Romeo and Juliet." Those were good times. I flew to Saint Louis about three years ago to see Stuttgart Ballet perform "Onegin." I had previously seen Makarova and Haydee (in NY.) My friend Georgette Tsinguirides gave me a biography of Cranko called "Theatre in My Blood." I need to read it again. I would love to see Crankos "Swan Lake." It sounds fascinating. PS. The partnership of Kang and Tewsley does look special on the video.
  19. Too bad ABT doesn't have Crankos "Holberg Pas de Deux" (which Kevin McKenzie danced at Joffrey) in the rep. They could cast Halberg in Holberg.
  20. I keep looking for a mother-in-law and just can't find one!!

Thanks for correcting that Mel. What luck, having Ballet Alert to help fix things. Forgive me for asking but has there been a recent revival of the Ashton version, or is it lost? I know that Christopher Newton is busy working on a reconstruction of Ashtons "Sylvia" from films, for the Royal Ballet.
