Also Janie Taylor was originally down for a Dewdrop and 2 SPFs but she was replaced. Injuries to favorite dancers are the bane of ballet-going. If you are wanting to see a specific dancer it's best to wait & get tickets the day of - but that runs the risk of not getting the seats you want (or any seat, in some cases). Of course, cast changes sometimes occur very late in the day and you don't know til you get inside and a slip of paper is included in your programme, or an announcement is made as the house lights are dimmed. With Swan Lake around the corner.... you know it's very likely that Kowroski and Sylve will be carrying the leads... and it is a much different preparation (marathon-style) rehearsal period for SL, White/Black Swan, than it would be for Nutcracker's leads. I suspect these ladies are dancing like crazy all day long, building up stamina and endurance for SL. Adding Nutcracker, well rehearsed, to that schedule just isn't possible... physically. As the Company prepares for the regular Winter Season rep, the results could well be changes to Nutcracker casting, including any number of domino casting effects. oberon's warning is important, though, for those who are seeking out a specific cast. Given the number of cast change slips I received in the years where I saw a performance a week of the ballet, it's better to keep one's hopes guarded, whatever the reason for the substitution. Every really good dancer takes advantage of guesting opportunities... Getting out of the very critical NYC audience/critics eyes... Visiting with family, friends... Trying out some new technical tricks... Confidence building... etc., etc. Sylve will probably return to NYCB, after her quick gig, better than ever!!! Link to comment

(Yes, New Yorks City Ballet -- both of them! ) NYCBallet.com, on the other hand, refers to Sofiane's HNB career in the past tense: "Ms. Sylve's repertory at Dutch Nationale Ballet included leading roles . . . drb Posted December 17, 2005 Share Posted December 17, 2005 The feature on La Sylve's early days with NYCB that is included on her Dutch Sleeping Beauty dvd puts her Het career in the past tense, but not completely inasmuch as she returned to make the dvd!
