Petra
Will NYCB be performing in Saratoga this summer? I couldn't find any info on either the NYCB or the SPAC websites. Link to comment
carbro
Yes, thanks to the hard work of devoted Saratoga residents, NYCB is assured of its summer at Saratoga. It's still pretty early for specific program information. Link to comment

ViolinConcerto
That is a very unusual repertory for Saratoga with the two premiers and several all or mostly very solid Balanchine works. Link to comment
drb
That is a very unusual repertory for Saratoga with the two premiers and several all or mostly very solid Balanchine works. The Gala will complete Saratoga's view of the amazing sequence of this year's Diamond Project hits. From NYCB's site: Joining the 1992 international hit from the first Diamond Project, William Forsythe’s Herman Schmerman pas de deux, will be three highlights from 2006: Slice to Sharp (Elo), The Red Violin (1st Movement) (Martins), and In Vento (Bigonzetti). Juliet
I regret the brevity of the season..the earlier curtain time.......but the last week of dance, especially, looks exciting! If it were up to me, of course, they would do Midsummer Night's Dream every year......sigh.... Link to comment
Dale
Info on the gala: SPAC GALA: July 22, 2006 The Saratoga Performing Arts Center will hold its traditional Ballet Gala on Saturday, July 22 at 7:30 pm. The program for the evening celebrates Diamond Projects past and present. Joining the 1992 international hit from the first Diamond Project, William Forsythe’s Herman Schmerman pas de deux, will be three highlights from 2006: Slice to Sharp (Elo), The Red Violin (1st Movement) (Martins), and In Vento (Bigonzetti). With choreographers from America, Finland, Denmark and Italy, this brilliant evening truly brings the world to Saratoga this summer. Plan now to be a part of this splendid celebration and see the freshest works that ballet has to offer. Link to comment
Farrell Fan
I'm not sure The Red Violin was a highlight of the Diamond Project, although In Vento and Slice to Sharp were. Russian Seasons (Ratmansky) was another highlight. Anyhow, two out of three ain't bad. Link to comment
JRB
I have only made it to Saratoga once so far this summer but I plan to go tonight. (Lawn seats). My comments will be directed more to the earlier curtain time. I still enjoyed getting back home before midnight (I live 1 1/2 hours away) but it wasn't worth it because the lighting was so bad. Maybe it was the ballets themselves but the costumes blended in with the backdrop for the men and their movements were lost. The lighting was abit dark and so it didn't carry to the lawn area. I realize that alot can be lost by sitting back there but with my DD at a boarding program during the year and at a SI now I just can't spend the money to sit inside anymore. The screens weren't visible until it got dark, and it was past the middle point of the evening. I hope tonight the ballets presented will be more visible or I hit the lottery and can pay for inside seats. Bottom line, I hope they will consider moving the curtain abit closer to the older time of 8:15, maybe compromise and go for 8:00? Link to comment
