  1. Tiler Peck's Instagram indicates that her SL dates are Sept 27 and Oct 1.
  2. I agree w. Kathleen that NYCB's tendency to cast only black dancers as Rothbart (a character role, not a dancing role) is offensive. I hope that the trend does not continue when it is revived this fall.
  3. Of course this is only a practice video. However, you can see that she is traveling to her right a great deal. Better to do neat singles or doubles that are under control than to travel into the wings during an on stage performance. She's young, so she will probably be able to improve with practice and coaching.
  4. We don't know how old Ask LaCour is because he didn't have his entire career at NYCB. However, I think LaCour may be older or at least the same age as Jared Angle. I think DeLuz, who danced with several other companies prior to NYCB, is around 40 or 41.
  5. Cirio was listed as one of the principal dancers who would appear for the Fall season in the June press release. Perhaps he is injured?
  6. Someone posted a few weeks ago that Tiler Peck was rehearsing SL under Ratmansky's coaching. Perhaps she will also debut in SL. Fingers crossed. Given that they are doing two consecutive weeks of SL, I guess they felt the need to train some new people in the lead roles. I wouldn't be surprised to see Lauren Lovette also debut in the lead. Assuming Bouder is cast again this season in SL, I'm guessing that this may be her final run of the role. She is the oldest of the O/O's performing the role at NYCB. Catazarro missed his debut chance during the last run due to injury, so I'm sure he will be one of the new Siegfrieds.
  7. Thanks for the info canbelto. I hope this means that Tiler Peck will also debut as Odette/Odile.
  8. That's exactly the type of writing the NY Post is known for. You haven't made it as a social misfit until you've made it to Page Six of the Post. Talicia made it to the cover story.
  9. True, it was probably an off the cuff remark that was not planned. However, given his stature and his leadership positions at important institutions, he should have had the presence of mind to choose his words carefully. With leadership comes great responsibility.
  10. Yes, that was a big mistake. Martins should never have said "she's fine". He should have said no comment or words to that effect. The "she's fine" comment simply suggests that he is out of touch with reality.
  11. Theoretically, this should have been a private, family matter. However, since both Peter and Darci are very public figures here in NYC and elsewhere, the story made headlines everywhere. Does anyone think this episode may have a negative impact on NYCB or SAB. Kids from far and wide come to SAB, frequently without their family members. If you read some articles given by former SAB students (such as Sophie Flack at the time her contract was not renewed by SAB) , they sometimes refer to their SAB teachers and instructors, including Peter Martins, as surrogate parental type figures. Fairly or unfairly, this incident may cause some parents to take a hard look at whether to send their kids alone to NYC to attend SAB. Martins and Kistler are so intimately tied to SAB, that a personal incident such as this could have repercussions on the institution. The argument goes something like if they can't manage what happens to their own kid under their own roof, how can I expect them to act responsibly in leading my own kid. Even if we assume that no parent of an SAB student expects any kind of caregiving role from either Kistler and Martins, having them embroiled in this public relations fiasco cannot be good for SAB or NYCB. Martins is the face of the institutions.
  12. Since I doubt Talicia lacks for money, why was she robbing these small businesses? Cry for help? Just plain stupid? Parents keep track of every dollar spent to prevent drug purchases? Bizarre.
  13. Sadly, she is not the first Martins child to have a run in with the law over drugs http://www.nydailynews.com/entertainment/gossip/ballet-dancer-pleads-guilty-cocaine-charges-article-1.237922
  14. Wow. Luis Ribagorda is back in the corps. That's a shocker. How many years ago did he quit. Also, it appears that Craig Salstein's photo is removed from the website. I guess he retired?
  15. Some might say that ballet tickets are also overpriced and a waste of money. IN fact, I know a number of people who would happily spend a lot of money on a bottle of perfume, but would never spend a dime to go to the ballet. To each his own.
  16. A bit off topic, but Hallberg is now a Tiffany spokesperson. He seems to be ramping up his endorsements, trying to cash in while he still can. His relationship as a dancer at the Bolshoi seems to have come to an end.
  17. Based on what I've seen of the folks who come to her performances, and at the stage door after one of Misty's performances, a substantial amount of teens and kids comprise her fan base. In the past, she has marketed herself, in part, as a role model, for kids and young adults. The target audience for this perfume is women in their 20s and up. PS: The reason most of the perfumes targeted at teens smell bad is because they are cheap. Marketers know that teens earn little or no income, and don't have money for fancy perfume. More power to her. I hope it works it out well for her and Estee Lauder.
  18. I'm not really sure of the age bracket of her primary fan base. It's pretty unusual to have the same person conquer the Barbie doll market and the children's book market, and at the same time have influence over the demographic for the Estee Lauder fragrance market. My impression is that the bulk of her fan base is young kids and teenagers. Is that the market that would go out and buy Modern Muse fragrance? I guess time will tell.
  19. Misty has signed on with Estee Lauder, and is their new spokeswoman for the fragrance Modern Muse. (Kendall Jenner was their former Modern Muse spokesmodel.) http://www.elle.com/beauty/makeup-skin-care/news/a47049/misty-copeland-estee-lauder-modern-muse/
  20. There is always going to be an amazing pool of talent at NYCB, particularly the pool of women. Pereira might have made it to principal in a smaller, regional company. Ditto a lot of other perennial soloists at NYCB. However, the competition among the ladies at NYCB will always be fierce, no matter what .year you graduated from SAB.
  21. I think McKenzie would salivate at the chance to bring Osipova back to ABT. She sells out the house. I'm wondering if McKenzie is going to attempt a reuniting of Osipova and Hallberg at the Met next season. If the Royal can do it, why not ABT. If ABT is only inviting one guest per season now, I'd much rather have a guest appearance from Osipova than another performance on the Ferri Comeback Tour.
  22. MIsty sells a lot of tickets in the US because she has a big fan base. Her claim to fame is that she had a tough childhood, but overcame the obstacles. Also, she does not have a "ballerina" body, and overcame discrimination. Her fan base in the US isn't necessarily filled with people who regard her as a great technician or an awesome actress. It is based on respect and admiration for her life story, and her celebrity. As long as she keeps filling seats, ABT is more than happy to oblige and overlook her shortcomings. She is not the only "prima" at ABT who lacks technique, but she is the only person who can fill up an auditorium for ABT.
  23. I think the Mariinsky and the Bolshoi visit London much more frequently than New York. Since each company seems to visit London every 2 years or so, this diminishes the demand over time. The demand in NYC is much more pent up because the visits to NY are far less frequent.
  24. I agree w. Vipa. I don't think any of the long term soloist ladies - Pereira, Lowery, LeCrone - will be moved up to principal. They do not get a volume of new lead roles, which serve as Martins' test to see how they can handle the principal workload. Even Laracey is a long shot. It will be interesting to see if Marrtins casts any of the leads for SL in the fall with people at the soloist level. Then we will get a pretty good sense of who he is eyeing for potential promotion. As an aside, Janzen was the only soloist who had a lead role during the last run of SL, and he was the only person who ultimately was promoted to principal during the last round of promotions. Catazaro was supposed to do Siegfried but got injured during the last run. Surely his will get his Siegfried during the upcoming run in the fall, if he healthy.
  25. They have been offering discounts for Taming all over the place. You are right - during the last visit with the "warhorse" ballets, every show sold out at full price. I think it was only the critics who complained about "warhorse" ballets -in particular Macaulay. I'll take the warhorse ballets any day over Taming. It only adds insult to injury that this production is under1 hour 50 minutes including a 20 minute intermission. Not much for your money.
