  1. The video for the live stream seems to be gone. Now they have the Tatarstan Natl Orchestra streaming. Any way to access the Tereshkina gala video?
  2. Good for Stella. Too bad Australia is so far from NYC. I'd love to see it.
  3. I was very disappointed. Osipova was not expressive. Her port de bras needs a lot of work. I didn't see much movement of her spine either. Act III was her best act. Not much real chemistry with her partner either. I left after Act III. A little surprised they decided to broadcast this performance to the world. She needs a few years and quite a bit more coaching in this role.

In Ratmanksy's works for NYCB, he has not cast Craig Hall, Taylor Stanley or any other black dancers in the first casts of his ballets. His casting choices have been color blind at NYCB. (Craig and Taylor I believe were in the second cast when Pictures at An Exhibition was revived in the Winter Season.) I also note that he cast Amar Ramasar in the first cast of Pictures, based on Amar's abilities.
  5. Tharp is doing just fine. She's got funding to tour the US in the Fall for her 50th Anniversary. She has done several successful Broadway shows which have also toured the US. I actually have to wonder about the future of Paul Taylor. He must have very deep pocketed donors. He surely isn't getting much income from ticket sales, based on the very poor attendance I regularly see at his performances.
  6. I think the last ballet commissioned at NYCB to a woman was Melissa Barak's Call Me Ben. It was one of the worst ballets I've ever seen, and it did not even last the whole season. It was replaced on subsequent programs during the very same season it premiered. Ouch. It was a very expensive debacle, with elaborate designer costumes by J. Mendel and scenerry by Calatrava.
  7. Unless I'm reading this incorrectly, it seems like the Spring season is starting April 19 and ending May 29. At least a week earlier than the usual commencement of the spring season. That's great. Fewer overlaps with ABT. Vienna Waltze, Ballo, Tchai Suite 3 and Tchai Piano 2 all returning. Liebeslieder too!
  8. Tchai Piano Concerto will be returning, because NYCB is bringing it to the Kennedy Center next season. More dubious offerings at the KC will be Martins' Ash and the Infernal Machine, so we can expect to see those turn up next season too. I'm a little surprised to see Midsummer coming back for the third consecutive season. It must be a surefire money maker. I hope they bring back Vienna Waltzes, Ballo, Scotch Symphony, and Divertimento 15, which have all been absent for too long. Didn't realize the company had only 94 dancers. I thought it was closer to 100.

  10. http://www.cbsnews.com/videos/an-american-in-paris-in-the-city-of-lights/ The TV show CBS Sunday Morning did a segment on American in Paris on Sunday, Mar 15. The link is above.
  11. Russian Seasons originated at and was choreographed for NYCB a number of years ago.
  12. Good news. Tickets for the show seem to be selling well. During its first week of previews, the average ticket price was approx $100, and they filled 86 percent of the seats. (Compare to the dimsal figures of some other shows, like ON The Town). http://www.broadwayworld.com/grosses.cfm#

I have not compared her to Copeland. You have. De Prince's story is fascinating because her father was murdered, her mother died of starvation and she was dumped in an orphanage. The fascination does not have to do with the fact that she was adopted by white parents.

In case you didn't notice this article in the Links section, this is from yesterday's NY Times about DePrince. Her story is truly fascinating, and I admire that she is focused on her dancing rather than making personal appearances in the media. http://www.nytimes.com/2015/03/14/arts/international/for-michaela-deprince-a-dream-comes-true-at-the-dutch-national-ballet.html?ref=arts# Seems like DePrince made the right decision to go to Dutch Natl Ballet
  15. Casting update: McRae is Osipova's Giselle partner Murphy Whiteside pick up the June 9 SB vacated by Paloma Hammoudi gets the SL lead with Hee Seo Promotion for Hammoudi now seems like just a matter of time Herrera gets Bolle as her Giselle partner instead of the previously scheduled Whiteside. Surprised we haven't seen the press release yet from ABT re another guest artist (McRae). I liked him very much when he was last at ABT in Corsaire.
  16. Thanks for the report. I never saw Merrill Ashley in Ballo. However, I was wondering if you have seen Ashley Bouder at NYCB do the role, and how you think she compared to Merill.
  17. I arrived at 2:45 PM yesterday and there was no line at all. Was in and out within minutes.
  18. I have to wonder if Cornejo is going to be ready for the ABT spring season. We'll see.
  19. I'd be happy if they assigned the Giselle TBA to Bolle. I think he and Osipova could be interesting together.
  20. Not sure if people on the board read all the other threads, but in the April La Scala Giselles, Hallberg is replaced by Sergei Polunin as Osipova's partner. I hope McKenzie does not choose him for the ABT season as Osipova's Giselle partner, which is currently that old stalwart TBA. He was out of shape and sloppy when I saw him about 2 years ago. I can only imagine that he has gone downhill even further in more recent times.
  21. FYI, "Rush" tickets at An American In Paris may be available. This is from the official press release: The new Broadway musical, An American In Paris begins previews tomorrow, Friday, March 13 and will open on Sunday, April 12 at the Palace Theatre (Broadway at 47th Street.) Beginning with first preview, a very limited amount of general rush tickets for performances on the same day will be available for purchase exclusively at the box office. Rush tickets are $32 each including a facility fee, are limited to two per person, and are subject to the availability of each particular day. The Palace Theatre box office hours are Monday-Saturday 10am-8pm, Sundays beginning April 12 from 12pm-6pm.
  22. Is it possible that the dancers don't regard the Wed matinee slot in the same negative way as we do?
  23. http://www.nytimes.com/2015/03/12/arts/dance/the-tales-of-hoffmann-newly-restored-opens-at-film-forum.html?ref=arts# The restoration of Tales of Hoffmann is opening at Film Forum in NYC on Friday. Interesting review from the NY Times posted.
  24. Yes, that's what they should have done- move Paloma's farewell to the Friday evening show.
  25. I agree w. FauxPas. She was excellent in previous outings in SB, but her Giselle is not particularly distinguished. A bad way to go out after 20 years. I guess that either Seo/Stearns or Murphy/Whiteside will pick up the additional SB date vacated by Paloma. I hope they plan on casting Paloma in their Gala so that her fans can say goodbye. Also hope they cast her as one of the two women characters in Fancy Free - a role she has performed previously.
