  1. Here is the interview Dance Magazine did before the movie was released. http://www.dancemagazine.com/issues/December-2010/Quick-QA-Sarah-Lane Sarah talks about the special effects and working with the director and actors. "And how does it feel to be part of a performance that some critics are giving Natalie Portman rave reviews for? I’m not really looking for any sort of recognition. The process was a huge learning experience and I got everything I wanted out of it. But she deserves the recognition. She worked really hard."
  2. Devin Alberda blogs about his tweets. http://goldenperseidshowers.blogspot.com/2011/03/i-can-tweet-bad-all-by-myself.html
  3. Has anyone seen this showing? Giselle In 3D http://www.odeon.co.uk/fanatic/odeon-plus-information/m13285/
  4. David Hallberg mentioned on his Twitter that he will be rehearsing with the Marinsky in DC after his London ABT tour. But he is not listed in the cast. I will be going to their open rehearsal and hopes he will show up. Anybody know about this?
  5. Mad about Mariinsky has posted on Facebook a few hours ago the videos of Somova being coached in Sleeping Beauty in 2008. They might be the Japanese Lessons dvd. RussianBalletvideos has on Youtube a 9 part video of Galina Mezentseva at age 35 in class. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9ljl8unztdg Willis Ballet has on their website videos for purchase of Mezentseva http://www.willisballet.com/To%20Order%20Page.htm They have a good selection of videos. In the teacher's videos it is Mezentseva demonstrating the steps in class and also her in performance. Alina Somova is much thinner and doesn't control her limbs as well as Mezentseva. I have only seen Somova live at The Kennedy Center a few times, I was more impressed by Obraztsova.
  6. If you can see Gene Schiavone's Facebook page, He has just posted of photo of Cojocaro and Carreno in a fish dive during the Wedding Pas de Deux. You can see her Gaynor Mindens and the extra darning on the toe box.

  8. Richmond Ballet and the Richmond CenterStage Foundation will co-sponsor a seminar entitled "The Glass Slipper Ceiling" as part of the statewide arts event, MINDS WIDE OPEN: Virginia Celebrates Women in the Arts. The seminar will be held April 28, 2010, at the newly-renovated Richmond CenterStage and will focus on the rarity of female artistic directors in ballet companies. The idea for the seminar was inspired by the 2007 New York Times article by Claudia La Rocco entitled, "Often on Point but Rarely in Charge." Joining Richmond Ballet Artistic Director Stoner Winslett on the panel will be Suzanne Farrell (The Suzanne Farrell Ballet of Washington, DC), Celia Fushille (Smuin Ballet of San Fransico), Victoria Morgan (Cincinnati Ballet), and Dorothy Gunther Pugh (Ballet Memphis). 9. Elliot Caplan and American Ballet Theater dancers in person World premiere Days 12 & 13 from Elliot Caplan's extraordinary 15 Days of Dance documentary is followed by a discussion with Caplan and two dancers from American Ballet Theater. Meticulously recording the process of creating a new ballet through the interactions of dancers and choreographer, the film becomes "an extended rumination on the making of art"—Ann Murphy. (Elliot Caplan, 2009, HDCam, A film and video tribute to the late cultural icon and choreographer Merce Cunningham (1919–2009)—legendary dancer and "the Balanchine of his generation"—includes onstage discussions with filmmaker Elliot Caplan and media historian John Hanhardt. http://www.nga.gov/programs/film/ Here's the schedule this weekend

  14. I got there late on Sat. and ended up watching on the video screen at the Millennium theater. On Sunday I waited in line 2 hours and got good seats. I sat behind company dancers Amy Brandt, Kenna Draxton and Kirk Henning. Runqiao and Erin are busy teaching and have started a company Chamber Ballet. They premiere Nov. 14 and 15 with guest artist Rui Huang and Jared Nelson at American Dance Institute.
  15. Oh no. This is probably why I have not seen another student in class the past few months. She was a Baltimore opera singer. I lent her my dvd of the Russian ballet opera Sadko becuase it combined both things she loves.
  16. I think that area of the stage was slippery. In the first act he also had a slip of the foot caught himself and Kitri's waist at the same time. I hope he will be alright.
  17. Thank you Natalia for the review. I can't wait to see it myself. I have one ticket available for Sunday Jan 18 130pm seat tr1 f122 free!! It was for my ballet teacher but since the inaguration bridge closings this Sunday she won't be driving up here from Richmond VA. I will be using the DC Metro to get to the Kennedy Center. I will be at the bust of Pres. Kennedy in the lobby before the show don't let this ticket go to waste. My email is (deleted) I also have one ticket available for the sold out show of Les Ballets Trockadero at the Alden Theatre McClean, Va(2 miles west of WashDC) Monday Jan.26 8pm free!! It's the Trocks first tour stop of the US in 2009. I offer it to Natalia first if she would like to review their comic ballet, otherwise you can take this ticket along with the DonQ ticket, but please use it. It was for a Boston Ballet freind who can't make it. I do have PM privilege. Please use the PM feature now working for my account. Steve.
  18. While channel surfing happened to see this documentary on emigrants which featured Martha Graham dancer Fang Yi in New York in ballet class and rehearsal maybe about 15 minutes. Will be replayed on WETA digital channel 26.1 1am. Washington DC.
  19. The San Francisco ballet rehearsal tickets were sold out which I did attend. The Kennedy Center did send me an email offering discounted orchestra seats for their Giselle performance. Right now the Washington Ballet has some Nutcracker tickets at 50% off.
  20. I remember him also as a racecar driver. I watched him race at Lime Rock Connecticut and Summit Point West Virginia. About 20 years ago as an amateur racer at Summit Point I was working on my car and happened to look up to see the Newmans walking toward me. They were just going around the paddock greeting the drivers. He was not "Hollywood" he was a caring person.
  21. I was at the Suzanne Farrell Ballet rehearsal from 230pm to ending around 520pm for $12 and sat next to the Presidential box. I am estimating that they only released 150 tickets . It was general admission and everyone sat in the box tier and rear orchestra sections. Suzanne Farrell ran the rehearsal with her narration before each Pas De Deux and two 15 min orchestra intermissions. The only other pauses were for missed stage cues and orchestra instruction. The rehearsal was for the Balanchine Couple performance at 8pm that night. Got to watch Suzanne Farrell coach Natalia Magnicaballi in Diamonds pdd. Miss Farrell performed the steps and port de bra with Momchil Mladenov and Natalia followed the instruction. Just seeing Miss Farrell do that bit of choreography herself was the best $12 spent. She is still beautiful. The ushers were clearing the theatre and I had to leave then. I mostly go the the rehearsals and studio performances since I spend my dance budget on ballet class. Some of the Suzanne Farrell Ballet dancers are my teachers. Kristen Gallagher, Runqiao Du and Erin Mahoney Du teach in the Wash DC Richmond area. I will be at the San Francisco Ballet, ABT, Bolshoi and Royal Ballet rehearsals.
  22. On the Kennedy Center website you can click on ticket availability and it will breakdown by percentage tickets left and at what price. For the Suzanne Farrell Ballet this week only the rehearsal on Friday was sold out. Tickets were still available for all other performance times.
  23.
