  1. They wrote his name phonetically: Anhel Korejja Ah! Thank you for the clarification.
  2. They've removed videos of the ballets performed earlier this season. I spotted Merrill Ashley in one, looking quite lovely. The video about Jewels was especially fascinating. I was amazed by how differently -- sytle-wise -- NYCB performed it compared to POB. I particularly noticed this during the brief clip of the second ballerina in Emeralds (later does the "walking" pas de deux); her dancing, notably her arms, did not seem to quite fit mood of the piece/music, in my humble opinion.
  3. What a diverse and interesting season! Very exciting. Does anyone know if Pennsylvania Ballet's upcoming Cinderella is the same version currently preformed by ABT?
  4. I've borrowed the video of this production from my library, and while not great, it is interesting. The story is very different from traditional telling: the firebird is locked up in a garden and becomes more human with each pas de deux she dances with her lover. The choreography here uses both ballet and modern steps, and includes some sensuous dancing. For nearly the whole ballet the ballerina wears a skin-tight unitard, as do most of the men. The video quality is good, but the sound is too soft at times, requiring the volume to be put up. The highlight of this performance are Honningen and Jeppesen in the lead roles. In the end this is not high on my list of ballets I've seen on video/DVD.
  5. What a great thread!! I think I really loved ballet all my life. The first ballets I saw (on video), when I was around five-ish, were The Nutcracker (Kirkland/Baryshnikov), Cinderella (Guillem/Jude), and Swan Lake (Makhalina/Zelensky). Whenever my mom put on the videos on I would dance while watching the ballet in my nightgown or little pink tutu. My first live ballet performance I ever saw was a local Nutcracker for a 7th or 8th birthday present. It was magical. And the rest is history.
  6. There are many youtube clips featuring the late Natalia, including her entire Raymonda and Giselle (with Lavrovsky).
  7. Exciting news! Though it would be wonderful if some Sibley/Dowell could be released as well.
  8. CNN also has an article on her. It includes a picture of Natalia and an unidentified dancer. http://www.cnn.com/2008/WORLD/europe/02/19...a.ap/index.html
  9. What sad news! For over ten years I have loved watching her Swan Lake with Alexander Bogatyrev; and I've really enjoyed her in Raymonda. What a loss for the ballet world.
  10. I'm very excited for Sara and Abrera and Misty! This will be the second season without a Gomes/Part Swan Lake.
  11. I remember reading that story in another book somewhere. Thank you for anecdotes innopac. Keep them coming.
  12. Did anyone attend the 2000th Nut performance yesterday? I'm curious to know how the special casting worked.
  13. I haven't seen Sofiane Sylve listed in any of the casting. She's still with the company isn't she?
  14. 'six weeks'. i think dudley moore's character was a politician and katherine's character was trying to get the two together before she died. or something. Katherine was actually nominated for a Golden Globe for her performance in Six Weeks.
  15. Thank you everyone for the wonderful reviews. I really wish I could see MCB's "Jewels." *sigh*
  16. Congratulations to Kristi, Misty, Yuriko, Sarah, and Jared!! Brava, bravo! Now to wait and see if there will be any promotions to principal... *crosses fingers*
  17. Does anyone know when casting for SB in DC will be announced?
  18. Thank you very much dufay, drb, and Ceeszi for the reviews of Vishneva/Hallberg. I'm glad they were so good.
  19. In celebration of Darcey Bussell who will be retiring from the Royal Ballet, BBC Two will broadcast Darcey Bussell's Farewell: Live on June 8th at 9pm. http://www.bbc.co.uk/pressoffice/pressrele...1/bussell.shtml
  20. Does that mean no Lilac Fairy performances from Murphy? Correct... Murphy is no longer doing Lilac tonight, instead it will be Abrera.
  21. Kent has been replaced on the 5th by Murphy.
