  1. My guess is that she might be doing it on purpose to relax her hand. My dance teacher will shake her fingers occasionally, to make sure that her hand is never stiff, especially during more technically difficult steps.
  2. Perhaps this is a bit , but all the pseudonyms of Les Ballets de Trockadero dancers are quite entertaining .
  3. The oriental dancer from Don Quixote that John-Michael mentioned is Annelina Kashirina.
  4. I'm thinking about buying all, or at least some, of the 4 volumes of Nina Ananiashvili and International Stars. Could someone take the time to write out what is on each volume, and who dances each piece? Thank you!
  5. Some background biographical info: Svetlana Efremova was born on 11/24/1946. She studied at Vaganova Academy, in the class of N. Belikova. Efremova danced in the Kirov from 1966 to 1992. I believe that Efremova is also on another video somewhere.. I'll post if I remember where .
  6. A bit , but also, It is actually in "The Leningrad Legend" narrated by Makarova. I admit to be guilty of watching Assylmuratova in this tape almost every day... She is indeed absolutely pure in this excerpt. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Elena Pankova, in another excerpt from Paquita on the same video is also a delight to watch.
  7. Oh, yes, the camera work drove me a bit insane... Who films ballets? Do these people know what they're filming?? In Sheherazade, Zakharova and Ruzimatov are dancing a DUET. TOGETHER. So why does the camera constantly go from one person to the other? That breaks up the overall flow. Grr. Sorry, but I just had to vent .
  8. Besides, I don't think it's actually Asylmuratova in the photo that they claim is of her.. Enjoyable to see nonetheless.
  9. Something else might be the problem.. I could access it.. Good luck.
  10. I have just watched the DVD as well... Since I haven't seen any other Kirov dancers in these ballets, I can't really compare, but still, I thought that the video was definitely worth having. In Sheherazade, Zakharova's lines were gorgeous. Perhaps it was not THE "warmest" dance, but it was really enjoyable to watch. In 'Spectre', Kolb had a nice, sweet "aroma". I just wish more videos would be published!
  11. :huepfen024: Same here!! I've been trying to get this recording at no avail.
  12. Tatiana Terekhova -- the line of her jumps is always beautiful. The lines of her dancing, for that matter. Maya Plisetskaya -- oh, yes! No need for further explanation . Farukh Ruzimatov, Igor Zelensky.
  13. The POB Bayadere -- that transfer of the camera MIGHT have been caused by the dancer struggling with that movement perhaps? That is just my guess .
  14. Oh, yes, those special effects in Sleeping Beauty are so annoying. What, is the audience going to be bored? Well, if they're bored they can fast-forward. No need to ruin the wonderful part with special effects. Also, in POB Bayadere, when one of the shades was dancing (can't remember which one), instead of showing the end of the variation, the corps de ballet was shown.
  15. I'd love to go, but that probably won't work... But I'm thinking of buying their program 1 for the holidays .
  16. OK, thanks . I was just quickly posting somewhere, so sorry I wasn't exactly paying attention.
  17. I'm not sure if there is a forum for Les Ballets Trockadero de Monte Carlo... I just watched their program 2 video for the hundredth time in the past month. . They're incredible! Very humorous, the parodies are great, and all at the same time their dancing is wonderful too. I'm probably going to buy the program 1 for the holidays. Are there any other videos? Or has anyone videotaped any broadcasts off of TV?
  18. I'm sorry that I can't contribute much to this question, but I do have to say that personally, I don't really like the eye patch either. I have seen some performances where Drosselmeyer doesn't wear the eyepatch. For example, in the Kirov Nutcracker, with Lezhnina and Baranov, recorded in 1993 or 1994, Drosselmeyer doesn't wear it. If I remember correctly, neither does the Drosselmeyer in the Maksimova and Vasiliev performance in 1978.
  19. Sorry if I'm a bit clueless , but this is what I understood: "Alas, the 'Magic of Russian Ballet' boxed set from Universal/Phillips is simply a re-packaging of three already-released DVDs in the Universal/Decca/Phillips catalogue: Return of the Firebird (the Andris Liepa project of 1993); Kirov's Soviet 'Nutcracker' starring Lezhnina; and the 'Essential Ballet' compilation." That is just putting together several recordings into one DVD package? "Amazon.com now lists a DVD entitled "The Kirov Celebrates Nijinsky", which seems to be Scheherezade/Firebird/Polovtsian Dances/SPectre DVD that Natalia thought was initially being released in the Oct 12 boxed set. This DVD is scheduled for release in the United States on January 25, 2005, with an extremely attractive list price of $19.99 (Amazon is currently selling it on pre-order for 13.99). From the Dance Books description: "Filmed at the Chatelet Theatre in Paris in 2002, the casts of these four Michel Fokine ballets include Svetlana Zakharova and Faroukh Ruzimatov (Sheherazade), Zhanna Ayupova and Igor Kolb (Le Spectre de la Rose), and Diana Vishneva and Andrei Yakovlev (The Firebird)." A nice DVD to have indeed." Another DVD that is about to come out? With recent performances of the above-mentioned people? Thanks for clarifying!
  20. I'd like to add several. Not all of them are dancing currently, but anyways... (in no particular order) Lezhnina Makhalina Chenchikova and several others I'll add later.
  21. Thank you for the information! Yes, I did read the interview a while ago, and still keep it in an interview binder . Please post more interviews!!
  22. The dancers from pas de trois from the Kirov Paquite are Elena Pankova, Irina Sitnikova and Gregory Checherin. Oh and in Chopiniana, Polikarpova is magnificent as well
  23. Does anyone know whether Irina Shapchits (or her last name maybe now changed to Zavialova -- after marrying) still dances in Royal Ballet of Flanders? Any info?
  24. Yay for their tour! They're coming to Detroit again, as they did in 2003 with La Bayadere, and maybe, just maybe (hopefully!) I can be a super in their production of Sleeping Beauty. I was in La Bayadere....
