  1. One of the two ballerinas, Herrera, performed the role in California. She did not want her farewell performance to be in the role. There is no official word on why Osipova is not performing it.

  9. This thread is getting too long. I'm closing this thread and starting a new one here: http://balletalert.invisionzone.com/index.php?/topic/40158-abt-2015-season-continued/
  10. This is the continuation of the first thread, which is now locked due to length: http://balletalert.invisionzone.com/index.php?/topic/39382-abt-2015-met-season I'm going to start individual ballet threads for reviews, leaving this one for the general discussion.
  11. Changes in schedule will impact the rehearsal schedule as well. According to the ABT contract, there is a limit to the number of hours a dancer can rehearse each rehearsal day and on the days when he or she is performing. I thought it was questionable that Osipova would learn the reconstruction for a single performance, but Ratmansky gave her early opportunities at the Bolshoi, and she seems loyal to him. Also Ratmansky is planning more reconstructions -- "Swan Lake" is next -- and understanding the style and expectations could mean more opportunities in the future.
  12. That is no excuse for his solo dancing. For everyone, please keep in mind
  13. So far there hasn't been any official news of anyone refusing a part or partnership this season except Herrera, who turned down the reconstructed "Sleeping Beauty" as her retirement performance: http://www.washingtonpost.com/entertainment/theater_dance/these-star-ballerinas-are-retiring--graceful-and-grateful-to-the-last-dance/2015/03/20/62f0ef6a-cf24-11e4-a2a7-9517a3a70506_story.html
  14. We are close to the halfway point and appreciate everyone who has contributed so far. I'm bumping this to keep the momentum going: as soon as we reach our goal, we will close the fundraiser.
  15. According to the mass email that Amtrak sent to customers whose emails are on file: Perhaps Macmillan believes that the exposure the barely identified Hee Seo got in the Ric Burns documentary will translate into box office.
  16. This link is to the Bayerisches Staatsballett in Munich...
  17. Regardless of what archival footage was available, showing slo-mo that looked like a movie trailer or reality show or So You Think You Can Dance intro or promo was a waste of resources and unworthy of American Masters.
  18. I thought Homans mentioned that ballet had come from Italy, but I'm out of the country and geoblocked. Hola is impossible slow, and I can't confirm. How much do we know about what was brought from Italy? The La Scala school was founded in the early 19th century: was there a continuity in Italy, or was ballet brought back to Italy from France, and the Italian influence -- dancers, technique, emphasis -- that influenced French and Russian ballet in the 19th century a circular influence?
  19. This bio in a .pdf of a program from State Ballet of Georgia (at Berkeley) lists: Charms of Mannerism, commissioned by Nina Ananiashvili Dreams of Japan Leah, based the The Dybbuk, which he revised and presented after he became head of Bolshoi Ballet Capriccio (part of the New Choreographers program at the Bolshoi) in addition to Yurliberlyu and Whipped Cream, which were listed in Tatiana Ratmanskaya's bio among his ballets. I'm not having much luck finding composers, though.
  20. And not one that would have made me want to buy it.
  21. I received a report that BA! has been unusually slow today, and I've tried to replicate that on my phone and using home and public WiFi and can't. I'm a very small sample, though.

    Hello

Thank you for posting and introducing yourself! A friend who worked in Bucharest several times over the last decade went to the ballet in the city, and he thinks very highly of the company. That was even before Cojocaru and Kobborg have given it higher visibility. I hope you are able to visit occasionally, and if you do, you'll tell us about what you see.
  23. I am still reeling from how awful this was and half thought I imagined the whole thing. There was 10 minutes or so that was worthwhile: the archival footage, Lupe Serrano's comments, the dancer with the photo album -- I missed her name -- and a glimpse at Firebird that made me want to see it. For the most part, it was Homans droning on about nothing having to do with ABT set to slo motion of unidentified ABT dancers.
