  1. This is the only official news page, and the only valid info from it is what is public-facing, ie, you don't have to be a "friend" to see it. Were she to open a real "fan" page: ie, one you would "like," it would also be official. "Fan" and "Community" are not official pages. I've removed info found on these pages and the unofficil news discussion.
  2. Bayerische Statsoper (and Ballett) has an established program and at least one major sponsor, Linde Group, a multi-national gas and engineering company.

  4. Because we were in the theater for both events, we didn't see them, but they were closer to the technology -- maybe even the same technology and platform -- as Works & Process. It is not the high-tech live in HD technology and format used in cinemas. It's closer to the single camera "archive" each performance, although digitally, not on tape.
  5. Works & Process just tweeted: Tweet left off June 9 date, which is on Facebook. https://www.facebook.com/worksandprocess/app_330598057104304
  6. Sadly, no: the way PNB got the agreement with all parties was to make it a one-time, live-only transmission.
  7. As far as I know, PNB has only done two feeds: the Forsythe Q&A/coaching session this past March and last night's Season Encore. PNB announced and publicized it on Facebook -- and maybe Instagram? -- and had a #CarlaLive twitter hashtag.
  8. "Dirty Goods" was a National Park commission from Wolf Trap for the Face of America series. This was the first showing in Seattle with the combined film and dancing. Peter Boal said he arranged for PNB to perform "The Calling" with Korbes in mind, before she announced her retirement. it will be in rep next season. "Rassemblement" was in this year's rep. In a Q&A last weekend, Kiyon Gaines said that this role was the first major role Francia Russell and Kent Stowell gave him, and it was very meaningful to him, hence his choice for his final performance with the company. The excerpts from "Jewels," which was the opening rep in September 2014, were selected to showcase the dancers who are leaving: Eric Hipolito Jr. Charles McCall, Jahna Franziskonis, and Carla Korbes. Carrie Imler danced Russian in "Serenade."
  9. Congratulations to all of the dancers

  11. Out of the US I'm geoblocked, and I don't know if amazon ever takes videos out of the free streaming catalog, but after scrolling though pages of belly dancing videos, which are characterized as "Performing Arts" I found these videos available currently in free streams, with modest fees for rentals, to amazon Prime members: Ratmansky's "Don Quichot", with Anna Tsygankova and Matthew Golding: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00J2NE6KQ/ref=pd_cbs_mov_aiv_1 Hans van Maanen Festival with Dutch National Ballet, Kirov Ballet, Nederlands Dance Theatre: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00GX58W6A/ref=pd_cbs_mov_aiv_5 Sacred Stage documentary: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00981FS4A/ref=pd_cbs_mov_aiv_3 Place with Mikhail Baryshnikov and Ana Laguna: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00GM7BNY2/ref=pd_cbs_mov_aiv_6 The Dancer documentary: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00950UBBE/ref=pd_cbs_mov_aiv_3 Macneil/Lehrer Profiles of d'Amboise and Baryshnikov: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00IIJINOA/ref=pd_cbs_mov_aiv_1 Macneil/Lehrer Interview with Judith Jamison: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00IIJIJXU/ref=pd_cbs_mov_aiv_19 Only When I Dance documentary on two young ballet students in Brazil heading to YAGP, one of whom is Irlan Silva (ABT II, then Boston Ballet) http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00XGDA44K/ref=pd_cbs_mov_aiv_9 Getting to The Nutcracker: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00R3PN3K4/ref=pd_cbs_mov_aiv_7 40 Years of One Night Stands documentary on Royal Winnipeg Ballet: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00GOB9X8E/ref=pd_cbs_mov_aiv_18 Heart and Courage documentary on Bejart Ballet after the death of Bejart: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00HZUVF8E/ref=pd_cbs_mov_aiv_11 shown on/branded as medici tv: Bolshoi Bayadere (Petipa/Grigorovich); this is the Zakharova/Lantratov/Alexandrova performance that was streamed in HD to theaters a few years ago.: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00V40N24G/ref=pd_cbs_mov_1 Royal Ballet Manon (Macmillan): http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00V40ON6W/ref=pd_cbs_mov_aiv_1 Paris Opera Ballet La petite danseuse de Degas with Clairemarie Osta (Bart): http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00V40MKOE/ref=pd_cbs_mov_aiv_2 Paris Opera Ballet Cinderella (Nureyev) with Agnes Letestu and Jose Martinez: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00GM7BNY2/ref=pd_cbs_mov_aiv_6
  12. There's a discussion in the Miami City Ballet forum: http://balletalert.invisionzone.com/index.php?/topic/40255-simone-messmer-joins-mcb-as-principal-dancer/#entry356237
  13. An article about Kiyon Gaines: http://kuow.org/post/kiyon-gaines-preps-last-dance-post-ballet-career It's the first mention I've seen that Gaines, who will be a part-time faculty member, choreograph, and continue to manage and mentor in the Next Step program for company choreographers will also be involved in Dance Chance. At the Q&A last weekend, Gaines described how fellow SAB student Josh Spell -- a wonderful dancer at PNB until 2011 -- told him that he should audition for Francia Russell and Kent Stowell, who were holding a private audition for SAB students. Thinking that PNB was a company of tall women and not being tall, he first said no, but Spell convinced him. He was surprised that Russell and Stowell invited him and Spell to join the Professional Division of PNBS because they were too young for the company. After a year in the school, he was surprised when he was asked to join the company.
  14. The news from Miami City Ballet that Simone Messmer has joined the company as Principal Dancer came up on my Facebook feed: https://www.facebook.com/miamicityballet/photos/a.78049846089.90769.10244171089/10152788832526090/?type=1&theater This is great news for Miami!
  15. sandik reminded me recently that PNB senior corps member Jessika Anspach called the "Nutcracker" an entry drug. Whether audiences who see "An American in Paris" go to NYCB, like what they see, and keep going could depend greatly on the rep they see, and with three ballets in most programs, there's a chance that something might grab them and be that drug, much more than waiting through three acts of "Swan Lake" to see the Black Swan part. "Fancy Free" "Slaughter on Tenth Avenue," or Stroman works could be a good bridge from "An American in Paris," and a little farther away, but not completely out of range could be "In G Minor," "Vienna Waltzes," "Western Symphony," "Who Cares?," or "Stars and Stripes."
  16. This is very sad news. She's had a much tougher job than Cross and Allen, with the Sirius broadcasts: not only did she tape the intros to each act for the Met archives on Sirius, she had to fill every intermission, either with insightful prerecorded interviews or on-the-spot conversation with co-hosts for some very long intermissions during the Live on Sirius broadcasts 3-4 times a week. There were few set pieces aside from the interviews, like the Opera Quiz or roundtables. I loved listening to her voice. It will be bittersweet to hear her archive broadcast intros and interviews. RIP Ms. Juntwait.
  17. Partnering is like IT Operations to much of the audience: everything is expected to go smoothly, so no credit when it does, but heads roll when it doesn't. In a Seattle Q&A Peter Boal said to a much-missed ballerina who was returning from parental leave after almost a year, "I gave you the best partner in the house." Since Karel Cruz is both tall in a company of tall women and has unsurpassed skill as a partner, ie, is in high demand, this was a thoughtful pairing on Boal's part. If things were fair, he wouldn't have had to point out why this was special: much of the audience would have recognized this on their own.
  18. I think the demographic that likes to look at beautiful, scantily-clothed men is a wide one.
  19. As a Prix de Lausanne winner, the Royal Ballet was an option for him. I think the bigger question is what was the last decade in which the Royal Ballet filed its ranks primarily from the school, particularly through the upper ranks?
  20. I will not say this again: we have an official news policy. I don't care who your friends are. No inside or "inside" information.
  21. Official sources only. For our definition of official sources, please read this: http://balletalert.invisionzone.com/index.php?/topic/34250-rules-rules-and-our-mission/ Backstage sources are not official sources on Ballet Alert!, unless they make a public statement.
  22. Perhaps you could explain your astonishment: I've always known the word to refer to a decorative style and objects based in Chinese design.

  25. More poaching from Seattle: German-born and Netherlands-trained Seattle Symphony Assistant Concertmaster Cordula Merks will be the new concertmaster of the San Francisco Ballet Orchestra, according to news from the company: http://www.sanfranciscoballetorchestra.org/sfb-orchestra-welcomes-cordula-merks-as-our-new-concertmaster/ She was chosen after a two-year search. It looks like there will be some West Coast commuting:
